Though Yaoi/BL is intended for the heterosexual female-only, it has been known to influence a great deal of women in Japan to question their own sexuality, and hence, end up defining theirselves as "lesbians".
But, I can see where such an ordeal can hit a nerve. I'm personally a lesbian Yaoi/BL-fan, and people ask me the exact opposite. xD
Logically and technically speaking, if you're a girl, and you like girls more than guys, but you watch yaoi, you're bi, just leaning more towards girls. You can call yourself lesbian, but technically you're bi because you seem to like both sexes.

[Rosetta Stoned] tomb_robber_girl I read/watch yaoi for the same reasons straight girls read/watch yaoi. And no, that doesn't make me bi, leaning towards girls. Because you're straight/bi/gay/lesbian, that doesn't mean you have to like certian things. If it worked like that, everyone of certian sexualities would like the same thing, right? Some gay guys don't like Yaoi, some lesbian girls don't like Yuri. I like both.
[Somehow, I imagine that's notwhy you watch it]
[And, if you watch *yaoi* (Porn) as opposed to BL. Then that is implied]

I watch yaoi and trust me, I'm anything but bisexual. I watch and read shonen-ai and yaoi because it's often a nice love story, and I like reading about other gay people regardless of gender. I read for the story, not the porn, but I don't mind the porn, and less explicit stuff can be rather sweet. Heck, so can the explicit, it's just usually not.
Besides, I don't find most porn all that attractive, and that doesn't mean that I'm not sexually attracted to people in real life. |

I talked about this earlier from a logical standpoint. It’s logical to say if you’re a straight girl you’d be into guys. Apparently the opposite isn’t true though, which “does not compute” to me. I mean the opposite if you’re a girl who likes girls you’d like more girls. I don’t understand at all why lesbians would like yaoi. Logically speaking it makes no sense and there’s a lot of crap I could write about how the brain works and logically speaking why lesbians would like either. In the end it would be justified as a type of bisexuality, however that doesn’t seem to be getting us anywhere since lesbians in the group are denying that it has anything to do with sexuality. Which is a complete contradiction, because yaoi and yuri are sexual in nature. If you didn’t care then do you also watch hentai and straight couples?
At this point sharing my theory [in full] would simply be down right rude. So I’ll say this instead. I’m not a lesbian, I never will be. Of all the people in the world I think I understand lesbians the least. In other words I mean to say that my words on this are merely speculation [and only logical in nature] so don’t take it offensively. I have no idea what it’s like to be a lesbian.
However on a logical standpoint of “Why do girls like hot guys getting it on, even when one is girly?” Despite the fact that there isn’t a female lover in yaoi the fact is that you’ll usually relate to the seme or the uke. I read in Newtype some time ago that the reason a lot of girls don’t like the normal Shoujo straight relationship junk is because it tends to remind everyone of the bad traits in females. Honestly in straight manga/anime the girl isn’t always made out to be the best partners. Half the time it’s like the boy is being bullied into a relationship or falling in love for reasons beyond us. I was surprised to learn that a lot of girls hated one of the Harada twins in DNAngel. Is it Risa? Yeah, anyways, I always thought she was cute. There’s also a huge hate against Kagome or/and Kikyo from Inuyasha.
Well that only covers why females would prefer yaoi over straight manga [has a perverted thought]. But do girls really need an excuse to like hot guys going at it when it’s expected from straight guys? Talk about a double standard [our society is sexist]. But why would girls like the girly looking boys? Well I like girly boys, because I have a bit of a dominate personality [sexually speaking…]. I guess I’m attracted to people with “girly” looks or non-dominate traits- soft features, pretty boys are always liked by girls though. Come on, even in shoujo manga/anime everyone likes the bishonen. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge anyone? Perhaps the reason we really like pretty boys is because we don’t see those pretty traits in ourselves, despite the fact that we would want them [no one humble ever notices how good-looking they are]. So we would like a partner with those traits. My simple excuse would be… I like boys and I like pretty anything. Therefore pretty boys are a “yes” with me. Also I like Yaoi because it's smexy boys having smex. Yay, I'm a pervert!
