ExistingViolation such raging disapointment as nobody names MY RUIN scream and the rock goddess that is Terrie B. (and her unholy god, Mick) Sorry to point this out but it's Tairrie not Terrie. Ive seen them twice and love them. Has anyone mentioned Die So Fluid?

Speaking if Tairrie, one of the times I saw Type O, Manhole was opening for them. They were just starting out and hadn't really released any recorded material yet.

On my myspace page I have a picture of her and Pete together which I think may be from around the time you're talking about. It looks quite 90s ish.

Bah!! Evanescence... not for me. Flyleaf is good. Kittie has always been one of my favorites. Walls of Jericho has a girl lead singer, Candice. I'd marry her if I could. Wicked Wisdom - Will Smith's wife is the lead singer of a metal band. Hell ********' yaa. Jack off Jill = heart

The Flyleaf singer grates on me, completely. I liked Evanescence when I was fourteen, and then I found Qntal. Then, I found Nightwish. I never looked back.
For goth female singers, Lisa Gerrard (from Dead Can Dance days), Siouxsie Sioux, Nina Hagen (although I'm not a terribly big fan). Mrs. Fiend from Alien Sex Fiend, also. Someone else mentioned Dinah Cancer, the singer of Bone Orchard....
You also have from your psychobilly arena: Zombina and the Skeletones (well, maybe not -that- psychobilly), The Horrorpops...
And from the Industrial(ish) side of things, L'Ame Immortelle isn't bad (singer is Sonja Kraushofer). You also have Switchblade Symphony (which is... okay), and diving into stranger things, The Dresden Dolls and Rasputina have female "rockers". Don't forget Lisa Hammer of Mors Syphilitica/Requiem in White (she's the voice actor for Trina Orpheus in Venture Brothers--Fun fact!)
If anyone here is a fan of darkwave, world music (as in, ethnic music), etc. check out Azam Ali. Not rock, but beautiful all the same. Also, Hedningarna, albums Kaksi, Karelia Visa, and Tra.
Nongothy: Guano Apes, Garbage, Jordan Reyne, Stream of Passion, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, X-Ray Spex, Poe, Massive Attack, Arch Enemy (woman has got crazy vocals), Blondie, and so many others. And I love a lot of non-rock, too, but I've already put too many non-rock in here already :]

When I read 'girl rockers' I thought of Genitortures immediately. Good musics!

Never heard of Flyleaf... Evanescence is alright. I mean, they're not my favorite, but they're on my mp3 player, so... they're pretty good.
