Lidia frowned, putting the fainted pokemon away. "You are getting weirdly attached to that thing..." she muttered, sending out the next pokemon, which Sotnik was able to take out just as quickly. As soon as the Inkay she sent out, fell, Lidia returned it, putting her pokeball away and clapping her hands together. "Welp, that's it for me," she said, stuffing her hands into her pockets. Zakhav quirked an eyebrow at her. "Vhy ees eet you only bring four pokemon..." he questioned, "Boz tiems..." She shrugged. "I just don't have that many weak pokemon. Anyway, I gotta head out," she said, nodding her head back, "Enjoy your stuff, and egg thing, 'cause that's the last care package and delivery service you're getting from me for a while." He rolled his eyes a bit, but nodded, raising a hand to wave. "Right... See you, Leedia," he bid, heading back towards the camp. He needed to pack up and head out as well, now that the morning was getting on.

Walking into the lake area, Ophelia looked around. She didn't see anything particularly special....Maybe this "weird Pokémon" had already fled the area? If so, that was incredibly disappointing. Her curiosity had to be satisfied. What had hurt that other trainer? A mother Pokémon maybe?"Do you small anything odd, Poseidon?"She watched as Poseidon sniffed the air before slumping in failure. Guess not....Well, she would just have to look around then.

Ophelia looked around Lake Verity for this Pokémon those two guys mentioned, but couldn't find anything odd. She was visibly disappointed. She would have liked to see this odd Pokémon. Sighing, she took a seat and let Hauntella out, picking the Litwick up and holding her."Lit~!"

It didn't look like sitting around was going to lure whatever this thing was out of hiding. She was hoping maybe it would make it feel less threatened. Maybe it ran off. Standing, Ophelia patted her skirt off and turned to move on. However, she noticed something in the trees and tilted her head, looking curiously with a confused expression. Snow? Why was there snow down here? Maybe a Pokémon battle? But, she...didn't hear anything that would suggest that. It was just snow. Curiosity taking over, Ophelia went over to investigate. Pushing apart a couple of bushes, she blinked. It was a Froslass, and it was using Powder Snow on some sort of....Wait, what was that? It looked like a leopard, but it was...fading in and out. A twig suddenly snapped when Poseidon stepped forward to look, and the Froslass's head snapped up. What was a pair of worried, gentle eyes suddenly turned dangerously angered."Wha--"Ophelia dove out of the way when Froslass began shooting Ice Shards at her. What the hell!? Why was it so angry all of a sudden!? Maybe it had just escaped from poachers? Poseidon took action and jumped out of the bushes to try and talk to Froslass, but that failed. She didn't seem to have anything to say to the Piplup."Hauntella, Astonish!""Lit!"Astonish seemed to do the trick. Froslass must've been hurt, because it knocked her out. Standing, Ophelia frowned at the Froslass before noticing something odd. A wisp where the leopard had been. Huh? Where did it go? Unless....Was that Pokémon from before a spirit of some kind? Could she catch it? If it needed help, she wouldn't be able to carry it. Taking out a ball, she hesitated before making up her mind. The ball caught the little wisp with ease. She would take it, the Froslass, to a Pokémon Center immediately.

Emerging from the wooded path, Marco and Chimichanga came up to a field looking out onto the beautiful blue lake Verity. Marco hadn't ever seen such a huge lake. The water was crystal clear but of course, even though the sun setting made it feel a little warmer out than earlier in the day, Marco knew the water was freezing cold. "I wonder..." Marco squinted at the lake waters looking for hordes of fish that he reasoned would live in droves in such a serene place but couldn't find any, figuring they were further out into the waters. He stood up and made a visor out of his hands and looking for something interesting, and found something indeed-around the other side of the lake, poking out from the edge of tall grass and woods that surrounded the lake, was a quaint fishing boat roped to a little post. Marco's eyes lit up-he couldn't resist such a compelling fishing opportunity. Lucky me! But first, I've gotta get this little demon off of me. "Oh, Chimichanga," Marco said, clutching the little monkey on his head, "Don't you think you've gotten tired of squirming around in my hair all day?" "Chiii," Chimi screeched at him, as if to communicate she'd tell him when she's had enough. "Oh yeah? You're gonna be that way? How 'bout going for a little swim, then?" He moved to dunk his head into the cold lake water and submerge Chimi with it, but she jumped off, screeching and using his head as a springboard, which ended up dunking Marco's face right into the frigid lake waters. "Chimi"! He shouted, wiping his face on his sleeves. I'm gonna feed that thing to the fishes. She stood opposite to him with a mischievous look in her eyes, but she didn't dare to return to his head. Marco was at least relieved to see he got through to her a little bit, and he enjoyed feeling a little more lightheaded.

"C'mere, let's check this out", Marco said, leading Chimi through the edge of the lake. Chimi was careful to stay on dry land, darting in and out of the bushes to avoid stepping in the shoreline. When they reached the fishing boat Marco began searching in vain for a fishing rod. When he couldn't find one, he frowned. Great. What are we gonna now... He turned towards Chimi's direction, looking up as he pouted and thought. "Ch-chaar!" As if picking up on the wrong message, Chimi fled and ran back to the bushes lining the path and returned to Marco's side after having picked up a huge pile of berries from the forest floor that apparently survived the winter thus far. Either that or she stole them from a local Bidoof's den. She waltzed up to Marco, who was looking into untying the boat from its post, plopped down in the boat as if to prevent it from budging, and dug in to her feast. Marco figured if he wasn't gonna get any reel fishing done, he could just fish a hastily packed snack out of the bottom of his endless bag and steal some of Chimi's stock of berries. "Hey. You gonna share those?" Chimi turned to her trainer and threw berries straight at him. They bounced off his greasy head, some falling back into the bottom of the boat and others plopping into the lake. Marco bet they'd make pretty good bait if he couldn't find anything more suitable, and decided to pocket some of them for use later.

In the faint glow of the approaching dawn, Marco zipped up his backpack and slipped out of the lakeside area, accompanied by his companion Chimchar. He didn't take a second to pause and look back as he made his way through the snowed-in forest. As he made his way out of the woods, his Chimchar perched on his head and keeping him warm as usual, he took a moment to fondly remember the past year he had spent around Lake Verity doing absolutely nothing, concluding that the experience had been pretty much the chillest. He had made friends and traded incenses with the local population of hippies, encountered outcrops of Bidoofs, and even taken on a false prophet persona to appeal tourists inquiring about the lake spirit that supposedly resided there, in order to support his "sabbatical." And yet every now and again, when he'd go into town and log into the PC, he'd receive messages from his crew members who eagerly anticipated any word of his successes in Sinnoh. "Well, today's the day they get some word back from me." In his hand he held out a flyer for a fishing tourney that was being held in the next town over-his call to action. "Let's show the world what all that time was spent preparing for, Chimi!" "Chiii!"

Aʀᴇᴢᴜ L. K ᴀ ᴛ ᴢ tttcciiicccc
The next day, Arezu awoke to find them on the shores of Lake Verity. She didn't bother to ask how in the world Suicune had managed it, in part because she eyed him and he seemed to pick up on the question and be amused. At some point in the night, Shiisa had gotten out. Arezu, Hakuren and Celebi had all slept leaning into her fur.
Last night felt like a dream, but what was more unnerving was that her past felt the same way. Everything beyond a year felt fuzzy, and though most of her memories with Hakuren were okay, anything with her home or her parents was blurred beyond recognition. In fact, she found that she didn't even remember what they had been like, and it made her feel sick.
Hakuren stirred when he felt Arezu's hand on his head. He pushed himself closer, and then up onto her lap. It seemed like he had fallen back asleep, but then he spoke. "So. Anyone gonna make me some breakfast?" Arezu snorted, which made Hakuren smile with pride. "Yeah, yeah. Get your furry butt off me and I'll get something."
Twenty minutes later Arezu sat eating a trail bar, her pokemon around her munching away at their own food. There was a fire in their midst, with a few fish Hikaru had caught dangling on skewers. Arezu stared at the low flames and reasoned through what she could from what had happened.
Best she could tell, Celebi was telling the truth about getting captured. It was hard to swallow, but what Celebi had seen back then was probably true. But Arezu and Hakuren remembered things differently. The best explanation for that... was that those memories had been changed. It matched whatever was going on with her memories of her home too, which seemed to be messed up. Arezu realized she really didn't know much of what was going on at all.
When they were done eating, Arezu found a very anxious Ai. "So. You can talk." Ai fidgeted. "Y-yes..." Arezu crossed her legs, getting comfortable. "Great. Then you can tell me what's going on. It's okay, Ai. I want to know," she added. She met the espeon's eyes without any judgement.
Ai shuffled her paws. She knew that keeping things hidden now would only be harmful, but the fear of letting any information slip still sat heavy in her heart. She had known it would come to this, but somehow hoped that maybe if she didn't say anything, they would just be content to observe... she had been alarmed when she learned about Celebi but had no clue how fast things would go downhill. If Arezu never forgave her... well, it was to be expected.
"Have you ever heard of... Team Imperium? Team Void?" Ai's voice, though telepathic, was a haunted whisper when she said the names. When Arezu shook her head no, she continued. "Alright. Please...please wait until I'm finished. You need to hear everything."And then it will not matter if you don't forgive me, forgive Shion, because both of us can leave knowing you at least have the truth.
Hakuren padded over and sat next to Arezu, eyeing Ai warily. Shion silently came and stood next to Ai, rubbing his paws together and glancing at Hakuren. That turned the Zorua's gaze from light accusation to uneasy curiosity. "I -we- didn't say anything because those two groups are very secretive. And very dangerous. They don't like loose ends or big mouths."
"Shion and I, we were assigned to you." Ai could tell by the way Hakuren bristled that they understood her meaning. Arezu was remembering that strange bouquet she had found just after starting her journey, with Ai and Shion's pokeballs attached. Turned out her mysterious admirer was much worse than some random creep. "We were supposed to watch you, and given changes to look out for. I don't know what happened to you in the past, but it had...something to do with your connection to pokemon." Ai's eyes flicked to Hakuren.
"I was surprised to find that, Hakuren, as far as I could tell you had not been-" she cut off, realizing her choice of words was important. "You and Arezu had met naturally. We were supposed to just observe, and report, but, well, Shion and I decided we weren't going to do that." Shion nodded, his ears twitching. "Honestly, whatever it is they were looking for in you, they probably learned more from us defecting than they would have if we hadn't."
"Do you remember that day by this lake, when you met Suicune? That day, one of them found us. He- he decided not to act, but I knew then that we didn't have much time left." Ai's words brought bile into both Arezu and Hakuren's minds. She remembered how subdued Ai had been, and Hakuren remembered playing happily with Shion.
"I was worried, and then... then Hakuren said something to me in the ruins." Hakuren clearly had no clue what she was talking about. It had just been a passing comment. "He said that for a moment, it seemed like you were talking like Hikaru. Like your personalities had overlapped. I think that's what they were looking for. That they wanted you to bond with your pokemon, and...that's why they set you loose."
It was unbelievably bile. All this time, this past year, it had been playing into these shadow people's hands. They were part of some damn experiment, Arezu and all of her pokemon.
Arezu stood. She motioned Ai and Shion to stay put. "No. I need time to think but... don't leave." Her voice cracked. She walked into the trees. Hakuren followed. Not far was a lake, and Arezu sat on the bank, staring at the water, and held Hakuren close. He was real. She knew that.
There was no way to tell how much time had passed before the two heard the soft footseps in the grass behind them. When she felt the familiar presence at her back, one realization fell into place. "You like to pick up strays," she said to Suicune, thinking back on the times she had yelled at him for turning around and grabbing one orphan or another. "All this time, I never knew that included us." She turned, tears in her eyes, and nearly launched Hakuren into the lake in shock.
The man standing there looked nothing like a pokemon, though he did have a long strand of hair that glittered softly like his mane. Suicune stepped forward and placed a hand on Arezu's head. "So you finally noticed," he said, amused.
"What the- what- I- Suicune!?" This guy felt like Suicune, she was sure of it, but... but...
He ruffled her hair. "It's easier to talk this way," he said simply. Really, he had been feeling like he needed a human form to take care of Arezu properly for a while now. He had finally gotten the response of a fellow legendary capable of granting him the form during his run last night. But he'd much rather be mysterious about it and let her think he could've done this the whole time.
"What the hell! You mean you could've changed this whole time?" Suicune smiled on the inside, projecting on the outside a calm look that he hoped looked fatherly on his human face.
Hakuren hopped off her lap, poking suspiciously around his feet. "What kind of bs is this? Illusions are my thing." Suddenly a perfect copy of the new human Suicune was standing in the Zorua's place. Suicune appreciated the opportunity to admire his new form. "Don't just stand there!" Hakuren huffed and dropped the illusion, grumbling to himself.
Arezu had stood and faced him. "So? What did you want to say?" What could he possibly say now that he had the mouth for it? What words did he think would help? "Oh. It is also good for this." He stepped forward and pulled the suddenly stiff Arezu in for a hug. He chuckled; her response was like that of a startled animal.
She struggled like a wildcat, pulling away almost immediately. The embrace had felt disturbingly foreign. She might have been worried that he was lying to her, but somehow she could just tell that this a*****e was her a*****e. She sighed. "Alright. Whatever. Thanks I guess." She looked delightfully petualnt with her hair ruffled up the way it was.
They started back for where Arezu had left the rest of her pokemon. On the way Hakuren leaped to her shoulder, his forepaws dangling over the front while his hind legs brushed her back. "You know, I don't think this makes our lives any weirder," he said. "I like Shion. And Raff. And we got Celebi back, and I think she might stay with us this time." His little paws tapped against her clothes. "And whatever happened I know you're real, Zuzu. And I should know, I'm a champ at illusions," he added, giving Suicune a dirty look.
Arezu felt better, but she could sense that it wasn't quite the same for Hakuren. He didn't have half-memories of his family floating around that had been suddenly ripped to shreds. But... those weren't the memories that were really important to her. And it was selfish to think that when she knew he had been insecure about not having a pack when they'd first met. "You know what Hakuren? I think you're right." She could sense that Suicune was putting off what she thought was a smugly proud aura and glared. It was rather comical how similar she and Hakuren could be.
When they got back to the clearing Arezu gathered everyone around, motioning Ai and Shion from their place at the group's edge. Even Sham seemed to be paying attention. First Arezu explained what had happened, as best as she understood it. Then she declared anyone who wished it was welcome to leave and get out of this mess, being clear that Ai and Shion were welcome to stay. To which Hakuren launched himself from her shoulder and declared that they'd be staying, whether they wanted to or not. Ai tried to hide her emotions while Shion leaped on Hakuren for a cuddle pile. When she was done explaining Arezu stepped back to let everything settle.
Hikaru approached, and in a moment they both understood what the other was feeling. But sometimes you had to say something aloud. "I am glad we met," Hikaru said, taking a seat. Arezu nodded, hands around her knees. "Yeah. Hey, Hikaru. Can you...sense anything?" The lucario shook her head ruefully. "I apologize. Despite my increased power in this form, I still have so little control. What I can sense seems little different from the whole time I have known you." It was the answer Arezu had been expecting.
"You mentioned that before. Maybe we should find somewhere you could get better training. Sorry we ended up cutting that short for all this." Arezu felt bad holding off on getting Hikaru the training that she herself couldn't help much with. "Say, Hikaru. What color's my aura?"
Rather than look at Arezu, the lucario tilted her head to the sky. "A light silver-blue, like that of a rain cloud. " She thought about speaking of the strange feeling that there were more colors dancing on the edges, like a faint rainbow after a storm. Even if her skill with aura was limited, she felt sure she must be imagining it.
"Is Hakuren's a dusky red?" Arezu asked. Hikaru blinked, surprised. "Yes, how did you know?" Arezu waved the surprise away. "Lucky guess. How could he be anything but red?" Hikaru didn't comment on how many different shades of red there were. "Like take rainbow-butt over there. Bet his is all rainbows and sparkles." Hikaru chuckled, about to inform Arezu she was wrong and that Suicune's aura was actually the black of a night-sky. Instead she paused, startled. Yes, there was a feel of a rainbow there, faint and flickering like a trick of the eyes. It was oddly similar to Arezu's.
"Oh come on. It can't actually be rainbow," Arezu interrupted. "That'd be way to gaudy, even for him. I'd peg him as a*****e-black." That earned a surprised snort from Hikaru.
Suicune was busy getting Sham to stop biting him. "Sham. It's me. I'm not human." He had hoped the lupup would have grown from being around Arezu, particularly since she was less human than most.
Shamrock Shake let go, licking the bite marks. [ I know. You just taste so good, ] he said cheekily, running off to rejoin Chifaera and Gekkit, his new brothers, who were deep in discussion. [ I bet she's an alien! ] Chifaera was saying, causing Gekkit to duck down into his collar with fright. [ She's not an alien, that's stupid. She's just a dumb human, ] Sham said as he joined them. [ But you heard what they said, Sham. They said she was raised in the wild like a pokemon. ]
[ Nu-uh that's not what they said at all, ] Chifaera insisted, raising his forepaws and pushing them into Gekkit's cone. [ Stooop you're gonna tip me! ] he cried, scrabbling to keep from falling from the sudden weight. But Chifaera's paws slipped off quickly. He slapped them back on, standing on his hind legs.
[ Why do you dislike humans so much, Sham? ] Chifaera asked absently while keeping his paws from slipping and ignoring Gekkit's protests. Eventually Gekkit's cone tipped, Chifaera's belly slipped over the edge, and they were both rolling on the ground.
[ You just can't trust them. I can feel it. ] But as he looked over to where Arezu and Hikaru were sitting, he couldn't help but wonder. The other two had forgotten the conversation, now playfully rolling around, but Sham was thinking. Arezu hadn't ever forced him to do anything he didn't want to do, hadn't insisted he even like her. And she wasn't so different from them; Hakuren seemed to think she was his sister, just like Flurry and Shiisa for Sham. Something about how she was being hunted by other humans really struck a cord in him, and all at once he found his walls crumbling. A memory tickled his brain, of one human he had met who for whatever reason hadn't bothered him at all.
