Don't forget that the Americans made a version of Red Dwarf.

I'll understand if you want to forget it, though.

The American Red Dwarf

Just for those who're curious/self loathing to watch. It's piss poor.

Also, usin this account again, don't worry that I'll be posting with two.

They made like one episode and got cancelled. Doesn't count.

Did you know that the Americans, specifically those responsible for the remake of 'Charlies Angels' are doing a remake of 'Spaced'? I hurt inside knowing this.

I never really understood the furore surrounding American reworks of British TV shows. The original (and best) Office, for example, was littered with cultural references that Americans wouldn't understand, not having the same systems or experiences in the USA. I don't see the harm in remaking the show and reworking it to make it more relevant to the USA. The American version of the Office is wildly successful - kudos to Ricky Gervais and Stephen Marchent who not only got pots of cash when the rights were sold but kept their hand in, contributing to the development of the US series, something Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson and Edgar Wright seem to have missed out on.

The entertainment industry is a business. If business people see a good formula, a good product, they are going to want to develop it in their own market. Sometimes, like Red Dwarf, it proves to be a spectacular failure. Other times, like The Office, All in the Family, Three's Company, the American remake has become part of American culture, as the originals have with the British.

Awww... they're not all bad - they're responsible for some good tv shows!
House, The Simpsons, 24, Bones, Hells Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, New Amsterdam (which I am loving), Canterbury's Law, 'Til Death, Family Guy...

Not to mention their sister company Fox Searchlight who bring great British Movies to the States like Shooting Fish, 28 Days Later, The History Boys and Bend it Like Beckham.

They're physically incapable of treating spec-fi with any kind of respect.

Family Guy...

Uh, yeah.

Says one of my friends: "And yet they still make Family Guy".

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse: Discuss.

I don't really like the premise, but I love Eliza Dushku so I'll probably watch it.
