Since Pearl was still kneeling, she took Pia's hand.
All that talk of humans being weird and different were wrong.
This person, a human, she had just met seemed to care more for her well-being more than her own parents.

This was impressive. Perhaps if humans we're so nice, Pearl thought she could start fresh, and maybe be nice like one too.
"I'll do my best." she replied, as Pia helped her up a little. The breeze on the beach was chilly, and Pearl shivered a bit.

Another action, even though it was small, convinced Pearl that her perception of humans was wrong from the start.
Pia had taken her jacket and put it over her shoulders. gradually, she warmed up.
Even though her balance was tricky to get used to, she managed to turn towards Pia.

"Thank you." she said, returning Pia's smile and then looking toward her knees.
They were shaking under the weight of her body, but her walking would develop with just a little practice.
She took a step forward, but tripped- her knees running against the sand.
"Ah! "
She squeaked, before getting up and brushing off her makeshift skirt.


"This is harder than it looks."

Pearl nodded, appreciating that Pia was helping her keep balance.
Pearl felt many things; She was tired and thirsty, yet she was also happier than she had been in awhile.


"It's hard to say..I've only been here for...well, not very long at all, and I can already feel that this place is where I'm meant to be." she replied, hoping Pia would understand. She wasn't quite sure where to go, let alone who to go to.


"I guess I'm feeling pretty great." She concluded before coughing once more. After she did, she let out a giggle.

"Ha, if only my parents could see me now!"

She followed Pia across the beach, allowing her to lead the way.

"My parents? Only the most stuck-up mermaid nobility in the world." she responded, glaring towards the sea. Upon saying this, she covered her mouth- not because she was talking badly about her parents, but because she revealed herself to be a mermaid.

A few seconds later, she brushed off her small mistake, and continued.
"My parents, i mean, come on. Yours are bound to be more interesting." She said, changing the subject slightly.

Being sixteen, Pia was several years older than her. She looked to be about her early to mid twenties, and Pearl was curious how a human's childhood may have been like compared to hers. Although, mermaids, especially nobles, usually left their homes to leave for academy at eighteen or nineteen.

Then they might get jobs as guards, seashell collectors, or something that would serve the queen and king in some way. The smartest of merfolk would become ambassadors to other mermaid kingdoms, and Pearl even heard gossip that Ariel herself became an ambassador for the human world.

Pia helped Pearl out with walking. Pearl, can you walk on your own? And I'm sorry to hear that, you can stay with me if you like. I can show you where I live, get you all cleaned up, a quick bite to eat and some fresh clothes to wear. I moved out and I live on my own. Pia said this to Pearl. As for my parents, they're doing well. As for me, I work as both a Waitress and a TV Hostess.

"Yeah, I'll try." and with that, Pearl let go of Pia's hand. They had been walking a few minutes now, and her knees were much less shaky. Therefore, she could walk just fine.

As she walked across the sand, she smiled- The first step of being human? Check. Now it was time to try and look like one, and she had just the opportunity to do so when Pia asked Pearl to stay at her place
"Thanks, that's really kind of you!"
Pearl's excitement was clear on her face. Despite her long journey, she still had a twinkle in her eye.

What pearl had said before, was right. Pia's life was definetly interesting, although there were a few things she did catch.
"What's a TV?" she asked, Pearl was not familiar with electronics since electricity and water do not mix. At all.

She had easily built a life and invented herself the way she had wanted. Something that Pearl envied a little. On the bright side, Pearl now had the chance to do so herself as a human and not worry about seeking attention from her parents again, she thought.

Emily was enjoying a night on the beach before bed.
Her house only a few hundred yards away from the beach, hidden by a small grove her mother planted to keep peeping eyes away.
She was recollecting the events that happened earlier that day.
Her parents would give her a taste of life outside the magical world, and inside of a real school.

She let the cool night wind blow in her hair, it was a friday night after all and her parents let her stay up as late as she wanted.
Soon, she would remove her beach cover up and dive into the water into the sea.
The reefs were beautiful under the moonlight, and she enjoyed a relaxing swim.

Underneath the waves, lodged in some coral, there was a glint of light.
Possibly something shiny reflecting off the moon.
It had a blue tint and was painted ornately. It could be safe to say it came from the east, but it origins were unknown.

Emily swam around, stopping short as she noticed something shine out of the corner of her eye. "Woah!"

She continued to swim towards where she thought the glint of light came from.
It was much too shiny to be coral. And Eventually, she spotted an ornate looking lamp of some sort.

In awe, Emily scooped it up, and took to the surface. Taking her cover-up and Running home to add it to her room.

She had never seen anything so beautiful before.
