[Discusion] How do people in your area react to yaoi?

sweatdrop In my town, if there was even a RUMOUR that you were queer ((odd OR gay)) you were exiled. My sister and I were both cast out after they saw us leaving our house together with our science partners. And then the entire Jake thing started up.. oih... burning_eyes

I'm from the Bay Area (aka San Francisco area), and gays are accepted. Hell, Yaoi-Con's hosted there! XD

Thing is, when my classmates hear about BL, they think it's either cool or weird. neutral

Most of my friends accept it, my best friend JT totally tweaks whenever I try to bring it up, but my other friends are really cool about it, some of them will compare favorite pairings with me, but I know there are alot of people that think it shouldn't be allowed.

I haven't really thought about what people think on Yaoi, Yuri, or w/e. It just doesn't matter to me what they think.

My mom is pretty cool about seeing Homosexuals, but once my sister told her i was Bi, she caught a heart attack.

She never wanted me to be that way and she told me herself. Now she thinks that i am "confused". Yeah...right. If she only knew that i want to bed my best friend.

Other than that, my sisters are pretty cool about it, but i know the some people in my family wouldn't be. My cousin is Christian. She once told me that all homosexuals burn in hell because it is not right to love the same gender. Then my mom wonders why i dont beilve in god...

xD Oh gosh!..Okay I go to a Christian School and Love,Shounen-ai/Yaoi...Yeah not too mention I'm eleven xD When I go all talking about it..I get called freak and what-not,but whatever!It was fun bringing D.N.Angel Manga too school..ha poor kids,probably killed their innocence.
As for my Mum,she knows about the Boy love[[Shounen-ai]] thing.One time she watched Gravitation with me..yeah xD Buut,she doesn't know about the Yaoi side too it o/////o It makes me sooo anxious too be eighteen Dx Gosh,I'm a screwed up kid :3

All my friends know that I adore yaoi and they all respect it.
Some of them really hate it, others dont really care, and many like it too. 3nodding

My parents dont know a word of english so I could even get them to buy my manga. My sisters know, and like XD... and I started reading yaoi at age 10...

Im currently traslating manga for obsession :3

I live in a small hick-ish town called Gladwin in the wonerful mitten state Michigan. To give people a clue as of how small my town is I think there is a total of three traffic lights in town. There was two but one was put up I think somewhere around a year ago...

People there like to play the oblivious part. They all ignore it, but if the problem is put in front of them they wont think twice about "solving" it. My friends, who are gay (or bi) have been beaten on more than one occasion. The reason why I haven't yet is because I have no social life and I live out of town.

I've even had to let them sometimes stay over at my house for fear of what their parents would do...

Though most of the people are against anything remotly different (you should have seen the uproar when we got a new building! It's kinda like a mini mall. No one ever goes there, and I mean no one.) the only reason that they could give me when asked why they don't like it was "It's against the Bible." I also asked them if they could quote the part in the Bible or at least give me the basic area of where it is found in but I am still empty handed on that aspect.

Most of the gay people usualy end up leaving town... Can't blame 'em though.

But we do have some good points! Like the very few people that support gay people actualy speak out instead of cowering away, and most of the kids of "tomarrows" generation here are to lazy to care weather people are gay or not. (Not sure if that's actualy a good thing...)

Most of my friends like yaoi, which I have to say is mostly my fault. I think I even made some carzy fan-girls out of some of them... But we know when we can obsses and when we have to hide it under the table.

Beyond popular belief we don't like getting our asses kicked.

I live and grow up in a town called Willeams(sp?) Lake in B.C Canada. Its like the red neakplace and if you even breath the word gay people will go like "What?!? Who's going against our lord bla bla bla", did I forget to say that most of them are like Christan loven freaks? Well they are. Anyhoo, when I was 10 I started like boys and my mom freaked out and she left us. Thats how bad it is here.(Well for me it is, but if anyone out there have something to say about that, go ahead). Once I came out, it was ok. Not alot of people knew( have like no social life to speak of) but once I got my first boyfriend, I got beat up six time at school before anyone did anything about it.

I hate where I live I want to live in Vancover or Landley. I hear its pretty cool there.

I grew up in the city of... Dorchester, in Massachusetts.
Seeming it is the first state in the US to have the gay marriage law acecpted, you'd think that the communities wouldn't mind gays, think again~
If my parents knew I even liked yaoi, they'd deprive me of my computer and internet... ;O;
