"It's an animal that people keep and take care of. Why do you want to know?"

"Am I a pet?" Olan wondered if he had whispered that. "You keep me and take care of me, so does that make me a pet?"  

[Rent_junkie]

"No. Pets are..."

He realized he couldn't think of a reason why he wouldn't be a pet.

"Does it matter? And again where did this all come from?"

Olan didn't like where this was going. "Just... from a nightmare... That's all," he replied, not wanting to get his informer in trouble. "I had dreamed I was a cat--no, a dog."  

[Rent_junkie]

"Then why would you need me to tell you what a pet is?"

He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.

"Because it bothered me." Once again, partial truth. "Dogs were usually trained to be loyal to their masters, who take them out on walks and care for them..." Did Marco suspect him? Did he sense the lie?  

[Rent_junkie]

"What does it matter if you're my pet or not? You get treated better than the other prisioners. None of the other prisioners would even think about talking to me like this."

Olan became a bit scared. "I just... felt a little brainwashed..." He then froze when Marco made mention of other prisoners. Did he know? Did he find out that someone had called him a pet?  

[Rent_junkie]

"I never tried to brainwash you. I do want you to be you."  

[BrokenScreamBox]

"I know that. It's just... It's nothing..." At least Marco didn't get mad at him. Olan smiled. "I shouldn't get so worked up over a nightmare."

Marco smiled to him.

"Did you want to try and get some sleep now or get something to eat?"  

[BrokenScreamBox]

"Let's get something to eat. I can sleep later," Olan answered, getting up. Almost immediately, he nearly fell flat on his face.

Marco caught him.

"Are you ok?"

Olan didn't answer. He was tired. Tired of worrying, staying awake, doubting. He wanted to sleep, but he feared that if he did he would wake up alone.

"Why don't you come to my office and get some sleep on my couch?"
