The ceiling, the top surface of the Lair shook again, sand dribbling downwards-
- And then threatened to almost collapse, crackling dangerously before coming to a halt. There was muffled shouting everywhere, Famine colony soldiers rushing outwards towards the exits, others rushing inwards, shouting-
- "HUNTERS-"
Silence.
And then the Famine elder stood up, commanding everyone's silence and utmost attention. His voice was raspy, accented. "The work has been done. They are scattered. Their forces are weak. We strike now, at the surface."
It wasn't hard to follow the shaking at the end of the hallways or the sound of battle from above. Several Famine clans members were busy rallying strange creatures around them, others pulling out vials, some hissing dangerously, spilling a toxic substance that corroded the ground on contact. There was a shrill screech as two large centipede-like creatures burrowed upwards, drilling an exit of their own as they sought bloodshed.
The tunnel towards the Lair exit, was actually split into several. As the horsemen and Initiated passed by, the could see signs already of the turmoil above: severed limbs, fallen human bodies sprawled to one side, parts of the very exterior of the tunnel coated with blood -
- And then utter chaos. The sand, streaming like a hurricane around them, nearly blinding them upon the exit. Flashes of light, colour: Hunters battling against some of the horsemen, against their creatures. A screech as a Famine centipede fell heavily on the ground - a Hunter with a gleaming weapon pushing forward while others created a defensive formation -
- Only to be intercepted by Famine soldiers releasing a series of over-sized locust-like creatures.
The air was thick with battle, and blood, even with the almost impossible visibility. There was no time for speculation though as a flash of another glowing weapon pierced the sandy browns, lunging straight towards those running towards the exit, managing to bowl several over. They blocked the exit, almost entirely.

Everywhere she looked, Jay found only sand and dirt. She took a few steps forward, and then stopped. The feathers of her wings rustled as she stretched them out to full wingspan for a moment. She hummed as she shuffled out of anyone’s way, gravel shifting beneath her sandals with each step she took. The Lair was nice; she would admit that. It even made the warrior wonder if other similar Lairs were still out there. She licked her lips as she hopefully pondered the idea of someday meeting more familiar War faces. Another hum vibrated in her throat as she placed a hand on a sandy wall and began to search for the coliseum. The cheers and sounds erupting from the main structure within the Lair had gone ignored for far too long. She could hear the voices growing louder the longer she walked and she only caught a tiny fleck of white before the ceiling above shook.
Mouth agape, Jay looked up and tucked in her wings. She furrowed her brows and moved to wipe away the grains of sand dribbling onto her head. Rude. The ceiling continued to rumble, louder than before. For a moment, it even appeared it would collapse entirely. That was definitely not normal. Something unusual was going on. It didn’t surprise her to hear that it was the hunters. Who else could cause such a ruckus to the Lair?
Her lips formed a thin line as she followed the crowd, its flow gently guiding her to wherever she needed to be. If she looked around she could spot Famine soldiers gathering vials or herding strange creatures. The human limbs and blood were not a surprise to her. In fact, it made the horsewoman excited. Conflict. Fighting. Her fingers twitched anxiously.
Sea green eyes were wide when a particular hunter managed to push their way through the battle. Immediately, Jay’s eyes lit up and she summoned her weapon. He looked like a good fighter. Jay smiled. Despite her small stature, she managed to find a comfortable spot from where she could throw her dagger at the hunter.

Mengyao, having sat quietly for the majority of the "event" so far (he far preferred observing to actually involving himself in the details), now looked skyward, a frown appearing on his lips as the ceiling to the lair shuddered and shook again, sand raining down on them. He brushed a few grains from his hair, feeling as though this was probably not a good sign whatsoever (these Famine soldiers really were so very... primitive), and looked sideways.
The Lair shook again. Mengyao stood, preparing himself to leave.
"I should think..." he started to say, but the sentence was never finished, and even he was uncertain as to what he would have said anyway.
With an enormous, whirling, whistling sound the sand cascaded down around them, screams and shouts echoing throughout the Lair. Flashes of white from the Hunter coats mixed with the browns and colors of the Horsemen, the sound of fighting beginning. This was followed by one of the Famine's most infernal centipedes, the creature booming noisily as it landed.
Mengyao could smell blood. He frowned a little, thoroughly put out by this new direction things were taken, and lifted his hands, something shimmering in his palms.
"Humans are so very irritating," he said airily, and pulled the string of the longbow back, letting the first arrow whistle through the air towards the hunter.

More dust and sand began to rain down from above as whatever was occuring above ground intensified to the point of Shaheen wondering if the ceiling might collapse down on them altogether before she would even have a chance at getting her hands bloody. Indeed, a loud snapping sound made her gaze shoot upwards, the crack in the ceiling confirming her suspicions, and she may have let out an aggravated sound.
And then it stopped. That rocky structure would not be collapsing on them at this time.
And then, chaos. Her smirk returned full force.
"Try not to get yourself killed." She said, rather flippantly just before she took wing to make her way towards the exit, eyes glittering and taking in everything. Blood streaked sand, severed limbs, violence, carnage.
Perfection.
The smell of battle in the air, of sweat and fear and blood, that got her own blood pumping. She saw the others around her, recognizing a few. Lifen, Jay, and of course, Shik. She trusted each of them, each for different reasons, and would only too happily share in this battle with them.
For the hunter that got in their way, well, there was really one course of action for the chieftain. She darted forward, Slashing at him with a dagger that was suddenly summoned to hand, receiving a slash back in response that left a shallow would across her belly. It didn't matter to her though, the pain only adding to the excitement of the battle at hand. She pushed herself back, feet sliding in the sand as she gave herself some distance, appraising the hunter with her eyes, searching for a weakness.

In lieu of the arrows, daggers, and electricity thrown about, it was almost humorous to see a rock sail along with them. Looking over his shoulder, he saw it had come from Mei, undoubtedly the youngest of the group. Just as before, a sense of protectiveness came over him, and the zomboil shuffled his position closer, small sparks dancing about his arms as they charged. "Always lil' hard at first," he told her, risking a glance at the jiang shi before training himself back on the Hunter with his horrid, fiery blade. "Know from experience. Stick close to me if can. Retaliation tends to be nasty."

"My dear Lan, it is not my fault if you are too short to shoot properly," said Mengyao, with a glance down at the horsewoman. "Kindly do not shove."
He cast Lifen - who, fortunately enough, seemed to be doing quite well on her own - an inscrutable glance, and then lifted his bow again, firing off a volley of arrows in quick succession. He held the humans in little to no regard, and felt no hesitation in causing them pain, the expression on his face darkening as he shot off a few more arrows, wincing a little as something hit his shoulder in return.
"Go back to where you came from."
