(YAY Hard drive!)
“Four?” the old man questioned turning to face Kaz. He was quite surprised to see Kaz’s eye color had changed. “Well well it looks like your father’s experiments didn’t start with the creatures. You make a great solider if your already killing without a second thought.” The old man continued backing up behind some of his agents. He wasn’t foolish he knew that Kaz didn’t like him and he wasn’t strong enough to face the boy.
“I would be careful boy, I will hold to my threat of shipping you back to your home. You’ll have no way of coming back to this island, and every time you feel pain you’ll know your monster has done something. I think you’ll come to hate him when that pain interrupts your life.” The old man growled. “You or he may not have it made here but here you won’t have to hate him.”

That's right, back up, Old Man! Kaz thought spitefully as he slowly stood up from the agent's body. Kaz's mother handed him the knife before she closed the door to their room. "Oh, would I? The Marines didn't seem to think so," Kaz hissed as he took a tentative step forward before hesitating. If he took another step, one of those arrows might find itself embedded into his own skin.
"Even if I did feel pain, I could never hate Edward." Kaz murmured quietly, looking down at the dark angel. "He's my best friend. Nothing about him can disrupt my life."

The old man watched carefully as Kaz’s mother handed him his knife. “You should have joined the army then boy, you could have already been high among my ranks.” The old man continued. The agents didn’t hesitate at raising the dart guns to the boy as he stepped forward. “Nothing so you’re telling me feeling excruciating pain for years would do nothing to your supposive friendship to the monster?” the man asked looking down at the still partially conscious Edward. “He can take more pain than you can, he has enough sedative in him to kill a blue whale and he still holds onto consciousness.”

"I wasn't allowed. Kicked me out of boot camp because I was too young..." Kaz muttered quietly as he glanced down at Edward before looking back at the weapons. He wasn't a super human. He would most likely die if he got hit with enough of those darts. He couldn't dodge them, because he wasn't a vampire with superhuman speed. So he didn't move. Instead, Kaz looked up at the old man and smiled quietly.
"Now, let's say you use your so-called influence on the military officials to let me in? I'm a decently trained hand-to-hand fighter and a sniper, if that helps anything," Kaz lied. But his lie was so even, so smooth that nobody could tell he was lying. It was his only way into the military. Besides, it was obvious that he could fight. That much wasn't a lie.

“Age has no meaning to my troops here, but tell me what would be in it for me besides your service for allowing you into my army regiment? I already have your service due to you being the only one that the monster seems to care about besides the other numbers.” The old man said his eyes narrowing as he tried to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of having Kaz in his army.
Edward’s hand twitched as he tried to regain control of his body but it felt too heavy. Whatever it was that they had shot into him again was stronger than the stuff from the time before. He knew there was no way to fight it off, he would have to ride out its effects, but he wasn’t ready to slip into unconsciousness yet. He could hear Kaz talking to the old man but it only came in pieces to him as he barely held onto consciousness.

Kaz dropped down onto one knee, his eyes never once leaving the man's face. "Whatever you want of me, sir. I am but a soldier at your command," he muttered quietly, a small smile twitching at his lips. He had done this before. Expertly, swiftly, quietly. He had wormed his way into a high-priority group before and used their information to his advantage. Military tactics, the identities of high-ranking government officials... all he had to do was collect it all and make a list to sell to Russia. But he wouldn't do that. He needed this. Without it, he was nothing, and Edward was as good as dead.

The old man could not hide his surprise as Kaz suddenly dropped to one knee proclaiming to do whatever was asked of him. He was also surprised at the sudden change in the boy's tune. He would have to test him, snapping his fingers an agent handed him a control which he stuck before Kaz. "Press the button." the old man ordered. He knew the boy would immediately know what the device was connected to.
Edward was vaguely aware of what was going on and his body twitched as he watched Kaz drop to one knee. Had the other been hurt, he needed control over his body again so he fought against the drug. He needed to be sure the other was alright, he could not lose someone like he had lost father. He paused in his fight as hazy eyes saw the device thrust in front of Kaz.

Kaz glared at the device for five minutes. Not once did he blink or move any muscle within his body. The only noticeable movement coming from him was the soft raising and falling of his chest and the occasional twitch of his iris. He couldn't press that button. But he had just proclaimed his loyalty before at least a dozen agents and the old man. Edward was almost completely unconscious, but he saw the angel's body twitch. He was fighting against the darkness.
I'm sorry, Edward.... Kaz thought suddenly as his finger suddenly connected with the button. The boy closed his eyes and looked away, not wanting to watch the result to the problem that he had created.

The old man watched Kaz he knew the boy was debating about his decision with swearing his allegiance. The man didn’t pressure the boy, Kaz needed to decide how much he wanted to be apart of the army, did he want it more than the monster. A smirk overcame the man again when Kaz pushed the button and he heard the angel’s body collapse to the ground. The agents holding the creature had not been prepared for it. “Well done, next time however it would do you well to watch what you’ve done.” The old man said, it was the first time Kaz had willingly inflicted pain on the creature but it would certainly not be the last. If he could not get the boy to hate the creature then he would get the creature to hate the boy and make what he offered look like paradise. “Take care of your creature then you and it will meet me in the training room tomorrow morning.”
Edward watched confused as Kaz stared at the device that had been thrust in front of him, what did it do? With the haze about him Edward was unaware the collar had been snapped around his neck possibly alerting him to what the device would do. Edward had begun fighting through the haze again when a sudden pain shot through his body jolting him into the world of darkness.

The boy saw the smirk before he closed his eyes, which brought on an onslaught of nasty thoughts directed at the old man. But, due to his promise, Kaz opened his eyes and muttered under his breath, "Yes, sir." As soon as he disappeared with his agents, Kaz ran over to where Edward was laying and picked him up gingerly, trying to avoid his wings as much as possible. Then, he brought the angel into his room and lay him on the bed.
"Okaa-san..." Kaz whispered quietly when he looked up. Immediately, an ice pack found its way into Kaz's palm. It was the best they could do under the circumstances that they had. The boy was unconscious from an electric shock through the collar. There was nothing Kaz could do about it. Instantly, his eyes shifted from the obsidian that they to a deep crimson red. They had never shifted to this color before, and they would probably never shift back to their normal blue. What did this color mean?

“Good.” The old man said and with that he retreated with his agents. Edward hung limp in the others arms as he was picked up, he didn’t even make an indication that his body even registered he was being moved. The collar wasn’t tight around the ‘cherubs’ neck but he wasn’t going to be able to take it off. It was loose enough to allow movement up and down his neck a bit and that alone revealed the reddened skin from where the electricity had direct contact.
Edward awoke hours later his mind still fuzzy but not as much as it had been. The first thing he noted past the fog was that his body ached. The next thing was that he was lying down. “Kaz…” Edward croaked out not seeing the other around. He needed to make sure the other was alright.

Kaz didn't turn around when he heard Edward wake up. His eyes were still red, but nobody could see it. All of the lights had been turned off in the room. Even Kaz's mother was nowhere to be found. The boy was sitting on the edge of the bed, the edge farthest away from Edward. He had changed his shirt and taken a shower, since both had been covered in blood. He didn't want Edward to know what he had done. Edward didn't deserve it.
"You're awake," Kaz whispered quietly. There was a mirror on the wall opposite of him, and the boy was looking right into it. From there, he was able to see Edward. And, if Edward tried hard enough, he would be able to see Kaz. But the mirror was almost obscured completely out of the view point of anybody who lay in the bed. Edward would have to try really hard if he wanted to see the boy's face.

Edward moved to sit up despite the protest his body was giving him against the movement. His body still felt heavy past the ache residue of what ever he had been injected with. “yeah, I think just barely though, they changed whatever they hit me with, it was stronger this time.” Edward said softly. “Did they hurt you?” Edward questioned turning to where Kaz’s voice had come from. He was aware of a small weight at the end of the bed alerting him to where exactly the other was.
“What happened?” Edward questioned laying down once more with his head on Kaz’s lap. He could sense something was bothering the other but not what. “Are they going to take you home, because I won’t let them.” He continued growling. “Or did they make you promise them something, like something to do with my new neck ornament?”

Kaz stiffened when he felt weight being shifted in the bed. "Edward, lay back down," the boy ordered. The his order wasn't loud enough, since the angel's head found its way onto his lap. He ignored the boy's statement on the sedation medication, but his body seemed to react to the angel's question. "Hurt me...? I guess you could call it that," Kaz muttered quietly.
"I'm not going home, Edward, don't worry." Kaz said quietly. "I joined the military under the old man's jurisdiction. I'm most likely either going to be a sniper or hand-to-hand combat fighter." The boy's eyes did not shift back to their normal azure. They were still the deep crimson that they were when Kaz had laid Edward onto the bed. Yet, he still couldn't figure out what they meant.

Edward had heard the order but had ignored it, why should he be so far away from the other when they were becoming so close already. Father had never minded when he had lain his head in his lap, it was a habit a comfort thing but he did notice how stiff the other was when his head rested in the others lap. Edward’s eyes darkened when Kaz said that They might have hurt him and he bit back another growl in hopes to learn more.
Relief flooded through him hearing the other wasn’t to be sent away, then understanding when he was told that the other had joined the old man’s army. He had figured that was coming since they had to participate in the war. Edward shifted to look up at Kaz, Father had given him the ability to see in the dark a little known fact but it took a minute to adjust his eyes. “Your eyes, they’re like mine…” Edward said softly reaching a hand up to touch the other.
