Kev paced around the huge freezer. It wasn't nearly cold enough for him to go into a deep sleep like Blitz, but enough to slow down his blood flow and reduce his brain activity.
He kept a picture of his mother in his mind, but it was starting to slip away, like fine sand through his clumsy mitten fingers.
Kev clutched the coat around him tighter. The fur brushed up against his face, keeping it warm for a moment. His cell was right next to the VRS room, and the walls weren't soundproofed.
He could hear sounds coming from the other side of the wall, but his ragged breathing and jumping around to keep warm kept him from hearing the words.
He sneezed, his eyes watering. The tears froze up in a moment, and Kev wiped them away with a half-hearted hand.
He was beginning to doubt he was never going home.
