Because people satisfy themselves and probably the feeling of being popular is better than helping others. They don't worry about other stuff in the world because it doesn't concern them and they don't want to put effort into doing something where they won't get recognition. (Sorry, I just wanted to answer the question)

No xd My aunt gifted me a PS1 when the PS2 came out. And when the PS3 came out, my parents got me a PS2 for my birthday. LMAO. I guess I have to wait until the PS4 is released to get a PS3.
