Do you think those who spend time on Gaia and sites like it are really geeks without real lives? Like I spend more time trying to keep fake fish alive then I do my real fish.

Talk about facing real issues. I know I am uemployed right now and living vicariously thru Gaia. I used to actually surf and play ball but now I surf gaia and watch movies and feed fake fish. True youdon't get beat up by waves or rocks or balls, but is it really living?

I don't hide with pixels. It's just fun to play dress up with avatar, or I would never be on this site. I try to keep it to a minimum because my real life doesn't pause for play time.

I was called a no-life even before Gaia. I loved and still love music, videogames and anime (though not to the obsessive point). Now-a-days, I do not spend much time with videogames and anime, but I usually use the internet for listening to music (^_^). BTW, I do have friends, read books, crochet, research various topics, and other stuff. I was just the nerdy type in appearance.

Some people use games and the internet to escape reality, whether that be to unwind, be "the person they always wanted to be", try to make themselves feel more important, make friends that they normally would not be able to, etc.
Sometimes I think I do hide behind pixels, but it's not so much that I feel that my life sucks so much that I need to build and maintain a different one online to feel better about myself. I don't have many friends in the online world just as I don't have many in real life and I tend to be mostly content with that because I'm used to it... but it feels good to socialize with others now and then when I have no one else to talk to in real life.
The "hiding" part comes when I'm talking with someone and choose to word things differently so as not to scare them off. On gaia especially, I feel like I have to be careful what I say when I talk to some people, because if they realized that I was old enough to be married, they might freak out and not want to talk to me stare Sometimes I will also rethink whether or not I'm even going to mention I'm in a relationship, because I have seen in the past that some people, especially females, will suddenly not want to talk to me anymore when they realize I'm "off limits" stare What's wrong with wanting to be friends? gonk

Friends are nice. Thanks for your thots! I find when I am on Gaia its like an addiction. I log in to feed my fish and next thing I know its 5pm and my day is gone!
