Okay random conversation because I need to get it off my chest.
My daughter was leaving a friend's house when she saw one of classmates staggering down the street. Well, much to my daughter's luck she got pulled over by the cops. My daughter didn't have her license on her so the cop gave her a soberity test which she passed but the girl in the car didn't pass. Anyway, because my daughter was driving the drunk girl home the cop let my daughter go on a warning not to drive past curfew and without a license. The next day, I get a phone call from the girl's parents upset that their car was pulled over for a DUI. I explained that my daughter didn't drink that night and had seen their daughter drunk and took it upon herself to drive her home. The parents kept saying they couldn't believe that a cop would let a drunk teenager drive another drunk teenager home. They wanted to know what liability they would have in the situation. I kept telling them if my daughter was drunk, Hawaii has a ZERO TOLERANCE law on underage drinking and my daughter would have gone to jail and they would have had to pick up their daughter at jail with her car. They kept saying how my daughter got luck and thank god she didn't kill anyone. I finally couldn't take it any more and just hung up the phone. I then called my cousin, who is cop, and asked him to call the officer who pulled over my daughter and find out what happen. The officer told my cousin that he pulled my daughter over for not having on her lights, tested her and she passed, however the girl in the passenger seat was drunk. He also said to tell my daughter that she did the right thing but next time to take her license with her. I tried telling the girl's parents what the officer said but they wouldn't listen... kept saying that my daughter got off because her uncle is a cop and thank god no one got killed. OMG, I just don't know what to do. One part of me says let it go... the other part wants to call the parents and tell them that they are friggin idiots.

lol! i completely understand your plight!
i wonder, are they just being stupid, or are they in denial over their own childs behaviour?
wonder what your daughter thinks about all this though, it might put her off being a good citizen and helping someone out next time around..honestly some parents rolleyes i'd want to call them idiots, and plenty more besides! they sound pretty stupid, unless their daughter has been telling them a twisted version of what actually happened, if she was that drunk that she couldn't walk properly who knows what her perception of events was? do you have a punchbag or anything similar? items like that are useful in situations like this sweatdrop

I have to agree, alot of parents won't calm down in any situation involving their child (regardless of the age of the child) to see more than one side to any story.

That way, the parents can see first hand the condition of their child. I wish I had a punching bag to hit in situations like this but instead I clean the house, it's very therapeutic. rofl

So, true. razz Denial ~ so many parents have a bad case of it. My best advice, let it go, they won't hear it anyways. And Kudos to your daughter for being a responsible friend. Not easy to get a drunk to let you drive for them. Sounds like this was some underage drinking (but I may have misread it), and the girl is lucky the officer didn't haul her in on that one. *Hugs* P.S. Pillows make excellent punching bags wink
