Only recently, last year, learning that G~ is a racial slur I have stumbled onto a problem. When people use the term to denote a person or people I will make them aware of what it means, but I'm not sure if I should say anything when someone names their pet G~. My aunt has a cat named G~, I have several online friends with dog/cats/other pets with the same name. I'm just not sure if I should speak up in this case as it's being used as a name for a beloved pet.

Not to step on her toes here, but my guess is it would follow the same formula as before. "Would you name your cat n~? If not, why is g~ acceptable?"
