Thank you.

What do you do when no matter what battle you win or lose it can't change the fact that you've already lost the war?

Make a valiant last stand with those men (and women!) who chose to stand by you, in the defense of what you know is right, and just, the consequences be damned.

Or, sue for peace, salvage what you can, and try to make the best of it. If there can be no surrender, gather up a rag-tag band of survivors, spool up the FTLs, and Battlestar it across the galaxy.

Did I mention that surrender just means dying more painfully than normally?

Sima Yi Zhongda
There are only five options in war.
Attack if you can.
If you cannot Attack, Defend.
If you cannot Defend, Flee.
If you cannot Flee, Surrender.
If you cannot Surrender, Die.

We all die. It is the fate, or mayhaps destiny, of all life. The power we sometimes have, is to decide the circumstances of that transformation.

Also, remember, another may take your life, but only you may give up your pride.

I stand in an endless cavern filled with many things,
sharp jutting rocks, poisonous vipers, glittering diamonds, and precious herbs.

As I delve deeper I find so much,
the likes of which I could barely dream would be here.

The cavern has no end,
yet I have no desire to give up.

I move forever forward and it continues to grow, shift, change,
offering new secrets and discoveries, littered dangers, closed doors, cryptic paintings.

Who thought a mirror could be a door to such things?

I had a dream, last night, that someone was visiting from abroad. They sent a letter in advance, but it only arrived on the day of their arrival, and the phone number they put in the letter went to someone else. I knew that the guest was in Ireland but I had no way of contacting them.

The dream, in waking, was not all that upsetting. I know that there are ways, other than phones, of getting in touch. But it was really really upsetting in the dream itself.

Actually I would hazard a guess to say that this isn't what it's like when worlds collide. Maybe a world and a moon. Or a large asteroid. Or a very angry comet. Or a very large space station.

I didn't find my wallet.
I shifted my perspective to a narrative where I had left it in a specific place.

I got a call a few minutes ago. One of my hospice patients passed just a short while ago.

This is the first for me in my hospice career.

What bothers me a bit is that I can't seem to formulate an emotional response.

In the arms of the angel
far away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you feel
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here.

I dreamt that I had found my homework, only to wake up and find that I hadn't. Thanks, brain.
