Sorry to hear that, I do hope that it hasn't scared you away from Warmachine. Official tournaments and the game as a whole can be very off-putting to people who don't "get" the synergy mechanics of the game, both old and new, as the more experienced players can sometimes table their opponents by the second turn in rather unsettling displays of cunning or ruthlessness.

Sounds dangerously competitive...xP. I'm sorry you didn't do as well as you hoped. If it was your first, you can always adjust lists and go back for more later smilies/icon_smile.gif its all about the game, and learning, yeah?

Nah, I´m alright, it left me with bad taste in mouth,
but it was expected to happen, can´t really take huge risks
with just few Heavy ´Jacks, Trenchers and Long Gunners.
But that´ll change, once I get my 3 melee units.

Lady Blodwynn
How many points were the matches?

42 points and I played with 2 lists, PStryker and Sloan.
And of course my 1st opponent had to be the Everblight with "Stealth to All"-caster. sweatdrop

How much different is Warmachine than 40k? DE never really talks about any other games than GW stuff.
To put it bluntly, Warmachine is an American game and like American sports and boardgames, it's one with total and decisive victories.

Warmachine plays fast, tight and has a set of well-written rules with a special page (page 5) to enlighten you on how the game is to be played:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

I adore the game for what it allows, as all units have their own special rules and gimmicks, but when paired with certain other units, the combos you can pull off are horrendously effective.

I'd say give it a try sometimes. 3nodding

That and warmachine focuses morely on small-scale combat
where warhammer is large-scale combat.
In regular 40k matches of 1500ps you nominally have (depending on armies)
3-7 units of models and few vehicles where in machine´s 25ps matches
you have 1-3 units and few warjacks. <.<

The only complaint I have with Warmachine is not with the game itself it is with the people who play it at my local store. They are the rudest, cliquiest S.O.B's I know. If you are a Warhammer 40K player and in the store when they are expect massive amounts of verbal abuse. It got so bad that the owner of the store banned them from 40K night.

You may want to look into lists that make the most of your caster of choice. Kara always works like a charm with the little Gobber and a few ranged 'Jacks (Firing Squad FTW!) and a Squire is never out of place with Stryker, especially when paired with his favoured 'Jack and backed by some aggressive support units like Storm Knights.

I already got the pimpin` Gobber, whole Stormblade unit is coming,
along with a full unit of Sword Knights and Precursors for Blaze
and I also managed to get Sylys to work with Stryker. :3

My army currently consist of;
Ol`Rowdy, Gallant, 2 Heavy Jacks that I can build into Ironclad, Defender or Cyclone,
Charger and 2 Light Jacks that can build into 2 Lancers or 2 Sentinels,
10 men Threncher Infantry, 10 men Long Gunners, Maxwell Finn,
Black 13th, Journey(wo)men, Sylys the Seeker, Reinhold and Gun Mage Captain.
Warcasters are Stryker (both), Kara Sloan and Constanse Blaze

If you are looking for good, hard combos, look no further than BattleCollege, which has an extensive unit library that dissects all units, tells you what they are great at and how to best pair them up with other units for the best possible outcome.

edit.

I would go with one or two Lancers though! An arc node paired with a shield that can fry a cortex is always good! pirate

I use that occasionally.

I used to run 2 lancers constantly, but ever since getting more models it´s
hard to ball 2 lancers in one list, but they have worked pretty well,
mostly as an speed-bump when someone might try to assault my lines
or caster. :p
Not once have I lost a Lancer to an first-hit assault. biggrin

Lancers work great when thrown against enemy 'Jacks, I've really fallen in love with it after I got a hang of the Shock Shield. If possible, give them Arcane Shield for extra protection. 3nodding

I do occasionally give them Arcane Shield,
but most of the time it seems unnessecary, they are stubborn to die
and looks on my opponents face when he fails to break the shield is
oh so funny. whee
More of often the Arcane Shield is useful againts horde-players since
they don´t have cortexes, which is also why I have Kara Sloan.
Too bad she works even worse againt horde-factions then she does againts machine-factions. emo
Damn you Anti-Shooty armies! evil
