But the earliest versions of Revelations say 616, the numerical value of the name of the then emperor of Rome. Plus, he did all of the things ascribed to the beast in Revelations *has read it*. I forget his name though.

Wether or not it is the number616 or 666 is still being debated.
Also, once a number ha been chosen, there are numerous different numerical codes that it could be put through. This could give numerous different names. You could then also take into account what language the original prophesy was written in or spoken in.
As for the roman emperor thing, mane roman emperors oppressed jews and the lie, but I have not come accross any that have done anything like The Beast of Revelation is meant to do. I have read revelation and I remember none of it happening in Roman history.

Erecting a statue of himself in a church?
Forcing people to bear his mark or be persecuted?
Restricting trade with christians?

Thats what the beast and the emperor did, and it is highly likely that it was about the one I am thinking of as he was in power during the author of Revelations's lifetime and was responsible for the author being exiled, at which point he was prompted to write it. The entire thing is about the fall of Rome.

Wasn't Jesus a Roman? confused I dunno. Couldn't really be bothered with the whole religion. It's built upon too many absolutes. It's sad that people will never realize that the only thing that's absolute is that there are no absolutes.

Jesus was a Jew born in part of the Roman empire.

As Julian said. And the Romans didn't like him. (I think it was them that crucified him)

Christianity isn't all based on absolutes. Theres differnt groups, some (particuarly the ones that like to make their voices heard) do base it on absolutes, which I agree is silly. But you dodn't need to take it on absolutes.
A possible take on it is: Jesus told stories which were parables. That means they aren't necessarily true, examples. That idea could easily be extended to the entire bible/new testament. Also, a lot of stuff that causes contriversy was in parts of the old testament. Jesus hung about with the non-believers and that so the Jews didn't like that. (Jesus was a Jew becuase Christianity hadn't yet been invented) In the old testament it says not to be around them and also not to eat meat. Jesus said to ignore that because everything is clean. So its could be fine to ignore other parts if thats what seems moral.

Theres thousands of different ways to interpret it. It's just one group who like to make their feelings known and gives other Christians a bad name.

Jesus is also mentioned in the Koran. I could well be wrong but I think he was a prophet. But he didn't rise from the dead, his followers faked that. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
And the old testament is just about the same for Jews, Christians and Muslims.

I heard something about 668. Something about the Beast's neighbor?

Hang on, hang on. That may be the view of one particular historian who's developed his own personal theory about happenings 2000 years ago.

Basically, we're fairly sure that there was some kind of a man who was a good public speaker, probably had a lot of jolly good idea about people being nice to each other, and probably talked about God quite a lot. Then there's some other stuff, some of which may be true and some of which may be made up, or written under the influence of the Roman government, or written 200 years later or 1,000 miles away based on hearsay.

I wouldn't say it's particularly for chavs. It's pretty much on a par with Myspace for general ghastliness, except with fewer emos, and totally unmoderated (really, there are whole networks of friends who just upload porn as their display pictures and pretend it's them. And people get hacked all the time and no one does anything about it). It's possibly marginally worse than Myspace simply because of the way it gets you to join - i.e., causing you to become totally inundated with inane emails saying "Join me on Bebo" until you're forced to give in. At least 50% of the people I know on Bebo joined because of this.
