My sister-in-law and her two kids (ages 6 and 8 ) spent las weekend here visiting. All three should be slapped. The older one sets up the longer one. The younger one has a temper and is a liar. The mother took a "vacation from parenting". They aren't welcome in my house anymore. evil

You know she's going to be the one wondering where it all went wrong when one of them goes to jail. I want to smack my sister-in-law and then march down to the charlitan in charge of that cult-wannabe church of hers and deck his sorry a**.

My daughter got her second speeding ticket a few months ago. That raised our insurance by $600 for the year. I told her that she has to pay us $25 per week while she is out of school for the summer (I don't encourage too much extra work during school) to cover some of the difference in costs. She is starting to realize how hard it is to make ends meet. She makes about $100 to $150 per week at her job, depending on her hours. Her only payment needed is $25 per month towards her cell phone bill. The rest has been her gas money and spending money. She wants to upgrade her cell phone next month which I told her is fine, but she has to pay for it. I got on her a couple days ago for being 3 weeks behind in her insurance payments and 2 weeks behind in her cell payment... she asked if there is anything around the house she can do to make some money... I told her there was, but it would entail her staying home (she is always out with friends or boyfriend, I nevre see her any more) to get the jobs done. She comes back with "depends on what it is and how much you will give me for it... if I can get more for doing more at work I will do that"... It makes me want to step in and tell her how to manage her money... less movies and Caribou...

she's at an age when she's in between? wants to be grown up and independant, until things need paying for, it's a big leap for a lot of kids i think, to have to become responsible, all the time, about money. hope she manages it ok 3nodding

I think it's a big leap for most adults to become responsible, all the time, about money, Poppetta. I know quite a few people who blow cash they know they need for something else.
Frustration, despair, fear - those kind of things can really ruin a budget.
I'm perfect, of course. No monetary problems here, no siree. Not clawin' my own eyes out over credit card debt, hospital bills, car payments or anything. Nope.
Don't know thirty other people or an entire organization called Consumer Credit Counselling Service who handle the same problems. Not me.

She has a checking account with a check card... she found out how quick she can go under when she over spends on her account... $33 per over draft X3... that one taught her to watch her account better... not her spending, just the account balance.

Hopefully she'll figure out before she moves out on her own... though unfortunately, a lot of kids these days don't want to move til they're in the mid-twenties.
Not that I mind taking care of my kids, but I really don't appreciate the "mom's an ATM" mentality. And the "I'll help out around the house when you pay me"... 'scuse me, if you live here and like having food in your mouth and a roof over your damn head ~ then you can be a responsible member of the household.
*end rant*

Same rant here... I see the end though, we will be moving in the middle of next summer... the kids do not want to move with us. My son is planning on moving to NY to live with his girlfriend and her family and my daughter who will just have turned 18 at that time plans to stay here... no idea what she will be doing yet, just living off of people I guess. They know the door is always open if they want to come though.

Wow ~ you've almost got an empty nest cool
I'm not sure what I'll do when my oldest leaves the nest ~ she'll turn 17 next month, so it's not anytime soon. The middle one just turned 12, and the youngest is 6 1/2. Gonna be awhile before I have an empty nest.
Not sure what I'll do with myself then, a house to myself with no one else to clean up after eek whee
