vacation: the goodbye
Morning was finally here. He was almost free.
West hadn't slept at all, but he didn't feel it, at least not in any way that mattered. He probably would have come across a tad scatterbrained if someone were to talk to him, and his suitcase might have been a prime example of How Not to Pack, but he knew no one would be in any position to notice either. He had tried to sneak out before the sun, but some a**-kissing servant had informed his mother of what he was trying to do and she had insisted that he wait for her to see him off.
He stood outside of Dighra's carriage, waiting for Zira to make an appearance. The boil wasn't sure whether Duerre had left the house immediately after he had fled or had stayed the night in some other room, but he had it on good authority that she wasn't here now.
His mother eventually ghosted up behind him, pulling him into a hug before he even knew she was near. She pecked his cheek, her right horn breaking the skin under his ear. Between that and his punctured lip, some back at Amityville might wonder if he'd started a fight club over his break.
"We will see you soon, Westus. For Halloween." There wasn't a trace of doubt in her voice, but West knew there should have been. He would not be back for Halloween. He was not planning on coming back for a very long time.
