Gabriella was stunned. No. Not stunned, surprized. She thought this had to be one of the most twisted dreams that she had. Enough to the fact that she started to kiss him back then stopped. No. Wait . This was wrong. She pushed him away and looked down then got out of the car. She couldn't speak a single word.
She took a deep breath as she leaned against the car. She could hear her phone ringing in the backseat of the car. She already knew who it was. But she just needed to breath .

Daryn's face burned as he blushed. She had kissed him back before pushing him away which surprised him a little. Why he blushed he had no idea. He felt like he was thirteen years old again. He heard her phone ring and he clenched his fist. He'd had enough of the jock's incessant pestering. He grabbed the phone and flipped it open.
"SHE'S BUSY!"
He yelled into the speaker. His voice was steady, but tears finally escaped his control.
If he had lost his princess, he might as well have lost everything.

"uh..oh. I'm sor-ry...Daryn. Is that you?" Dawns voice rang off the other side of the phone. She had just landed. She was curious to why Daryn had the phone.
Gabriella was focusing on breathing. She needed to be able to speak again. The whole cabin idea was probably out the door now. She was so confused. Why did he just kiss her? Why did she kiss back!? After what shes going through. Oh God..If Jason finds out.. She slid down to the ground against the car.

Daryn was shocked.
"Oh. Ya it's Daryn. H-hi Dawn. I'll uh... give the phone the Gabriella."
He got out of the car and walked around to see her sitting on the ground by the door.
"Hey, uh... It's your mom.."
He said sheepishly and handed the phone to her.

She took the phone but didn't open her eyes. "Hi mom" she said softly. "yeah. I'm still staying at the house.. I dunno what I'm going to do" Gabriella listened on the other line. THen explained where they were and what happened.She had texted her mom a out the cabin.
"Mom. As I said I don't know about the cabin. Jason... "just saying his name pulled at her. "Jason doesn't know. I don't know. All I know is that i'm at the hospital with Daryn " she listened and sighed, standing up. She walked around in a circle like she did all the time on the phone. "yeah..bye" she hung up.
"SHe forgives you for the yelling.." She shoved the phone in her back pocket and reached in teh car for her purse. She never acted like this..almost zombie like.At least no in public. She didn't have any emotion on her face, because she was thinking. Her thinking tended to drive her insane. It had only happened a few times in front of anyone and it was Daryn.

"Oh."
He looked at the ground and then realized he still had tears on his face. He quickly wiped them away and then rubbed the back of his neck.
"I'm... not sorry that I did that. But I am sorry it made you upset."
He said quietly and began walking towards the entrance while she grabbed her purse. After that, he really had no right to walk beside her.

She was about to stop him when her phone went off again. She sighed. "Go ahead.." she walked back out into the parking lot. When she read the caller ID her stomach got into a knot. It was Jason.
[insert doom music]
When she got up to the waiting room there were fresh tears in her eyes. She wiped them away and walked over to sit next to Daryn. "That one was Jason.." she took a slow, deep, breath. "Apparently a news reporter labeled us as a couple and we were on the news.." she was scared. Jason had a bad temper and he wanted her to meet up with him later.

Daryn looked at her a bit blankly before anger consumed him, but he kept it in check.
"You're not going by yourself. I don't care what you say. If... if you're afraid then I'm not letting you go alone."
He said while looking at the ground, a slight blush again crept onto his face.
"Did he yell at you?"

"if you were engaged to a girl and you saw her live on tv in another guys arms, would you yell?" she took a deep breath. "I'm going alone Daryn. I'm not scared" before he could say she was lieing she continued. "you of all people shouldn't be stressing about me " her voice whimpered a bit at the end.
She looked at the floor and sighed. "In a few minites i'm going to go meet up with him in a public place. Then i'm going to my moms to grab the stuff i left there. " she tried to maintane calm. "i'll come back to take you home. But i'm going to the cabin. " She didn't think he wanted to go now. "And get something to drink.. she wasn't an alcholic ..yet. But drinking was taking the pain away latley.

Daryn was about to protest when the doctor came out and called him.
"I do still want to go camping." He offered her a weak smile and started to walk away but stopped and turned.
"And I don't think I'd yell if I knew it was her best friend." He followed the doctor into a small curtained room.
His dad was laying in the bed, unconscious.
The doctor was explaining to him what they found but he could only focus on a few key words.
"It's possible he could be in a permanent coma.
He only nodded and when the doctor left, he sat down in a chair and put his head in his hands. Things felt like they were falling apart.

Gabriella nodded and left. She knew he'd need his space anyway. She went through the exit and into her car. She pulled out and left. Her car was in complete silence as she made her way over to Jasons house. She was never going to forgive herself for lieing to Daryn. BUt she couldn't cause another fight to break out...
"Where the hell have you been!?" Jason didn't even let her walk through the door before he started. "DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU"VE DONE!?'' He was furious. "I've been on the phone for hours with my family asking F***ing questions about you and that damn freak show!"
That pushed her buttons. "you..you Jerk! That freak show happens to be my bestfriend! That was his father who was in the acciden!" She was pissed beyond control. She had never snapped on anyone like this but Daryn. She got right in Jasons face."You are such a selfi-" She would never finish that sentance. Jason had back handed her right across the face.
"I'm going to tell you something little princess " he spat the words as if he was talking to a criminal. "You will know your place. You are going to stay here. Now get up" he was pure evil when he didn't get what he wanted.
"Like hell I am" she muttered. She got up and walked for the door. She was ready to rip the ring off her finger and throw it at him when she saw him holding the phone as a threat.
"you take that ring off..all that work you did..is gone" he smiled "i'll see you when you get back honey"
She left crying, her cheek throbbing as she got in the car Driving to her mothers and getting her stuff was a blur. All she remembered was pulling into the hospital parking lot and sitting in her car, crying.

Daryn didn't know how long he sat in his father's room but a nurse finally came in and asked if he was ok. He simply nodded and excused himself.
He walked to the waiting room and didn't see Gabriella there. He frowned, worried. Making his way to the parking lot, he saw her car and went over. As he approached, he saw her crumpled up in her seat crying. He ran the rest of the way and ripped her door open.
"Gabriella! Hey, tell me what happened."
He said to her gently and placed an arm around her shoulders. Not caring if she minded or not, he pulled her close in a calming hug.

"Nothing. I'm just stressing out." SHe muttered. She layed her head on his chest. "Damn hangover.." she hated lying with a passion! She just couldn't understand why she couldn't just tell him.SHe wiped her eyes and tried to compose herself.
"How's your dad..?" She rubbed her cheek, glad that her hair was covering most of it. It was still evident that she had hurt it. It wasn't as if Jason drew blood. But the point of it was to get off the subject.

Daryn chuckled wryly.
"You never were a very good liar."
He put his chin on top of her head as she leaned in and his hold tightened when he thought again of his dad. Taking a steadying breath he answered.
"The doctor said that the head trauma was worse than they thought. He could be in a permanent coma. They have no idea if he'll ever wake up..."
He said quietly and felt his eyes water again.

Gabriella huffed. "I"m not lying..." she muttered. Another half attempt lie. But she stopped and just listened to him. She didn't want to say she was sorry, because she knew it wouldn't help any. Plus it would of sounded as if he had died..
She just stayed there in his arms thinking. SHe'd tell him at the cabin that Jason hit her. Thats what she'd do. She'd just wait. Maybe he'd save her..but who was she trying to kid?
