Iago walked over and sat down next to her on the stool, giving it a look of distaste after Jocelyn had sat on it. Oh well. He looked up at her, nodding. "Of course I'm going to tell my father that." he said truthfully. He doubted it would make a difference, though. He chuckled sadly. "You think I was joking?" he asked. "If there was one thing I could change, it would be that rule. That way, I could find myself a girl who truly wants to make a difference, marry her, and once I took the throne, change this town." he said, averting his eyes from her, lest she figure out who he was talking about.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie swung her legs back and forth mindlessly and kept her mouth shut as he spoke. Would he really be interested in marrying a peasant girl? Those were the only types of girls that lived in their kingdom, peasants. There weren't any other nobles around them so there were slim pickings for someone higher up on the food chain. Evie saw it that way, either you were strong and looked after yourself or you were weak and trampled upon.
"Princes and peasants marry and have a happily ever after in fairy tales. None of that actually happens in real life." As much as she wanted it to, she knew that only little girls's storybooks were the only happy endings to a story.
Her heart wanted to tear itself out of her chest and lay bare the inner workings of her soul. She couldn't tell anyone how she felt about him and it ate her up inside. She couldn't tell her mother, her father, her siblings...no one unless she wanted to be locked away forever. As she looked at Iago, him turned away looking elsewhere, she wanted nothing more than to kiss him again...upon his lips and reveal how she truly felt about him and how much she wanted him to be happy.
"You will have to change this town without your trophy wife. She does not exist."

"It happened once before." Iago said quietly, remembering a story from long ago, when a prince had eloped with a peasant. His father had no choice but to accept, as he had no other heirs, and his wife had died, and he was soon to die as well. He put his hand on the counter and leaned against it. Whether by chance or maybe some unconscious thought, his hand landed near hers. "I need a trophy wife, as you put it. My father will practically force me to marry before he'll let me take the throne." he said sadly, looking up into her eyes. It's you I want. he said to himself.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε "It may have happened before but that's one in a million chances of that. Your father would NEVER let you marry a peasant no matter how much you wanted to. Royal traditions never have exceptions for the heart except in extreme cases and that case I consider to be extreme for the likes of you. If Jocelyn were the key to bringing this kingdom back to what it used to be, would you marry her then?" Evie wondered. Would he put aside his heart of the better of the kingdom or would he still seek someone he could love completely instead, even if she was to be a peasant.
When Iago had looked into her eyes she felt a blush again and wondered what coursed through his mind when he looked at her. How did he feel about her? She really wished she knew or he'd tell her at least....if he had no feelings towards her, she wished that he would stop toying with her emotions. She was already a wreck from her earlier escapades...she didn't need him to break her heart. Evie moved her hand away from his to aid her in her quest to mend her heart back together.
"What are you thinking about right now?" Evie ventured.

Iago thought it over. If she put it that way... "When you put it that way...I would put up with her. I would rather see this village prosper, than be happy and still have it live in poverty." he said truthfully. Who cared if he wasn't happy? As long as the village could flourish again, he'd be fine. He could die with a clear conscience. He had to think about what to say to her. He couldn't tell the truth...well, unless she wanted to hear it. Better to half-lie...not what he was thinking of at the moment, but of what he had been thinking of. "How your kiss felt different than Jocelyn's." he whispered, his face flushing again. He wanted to look away, but he couldn't.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie tilted her head slightly to one side and wondered what he thought of her. She really wanted to know now and would do practically anything to attain said information. Was Jocelyn's kiss better than hers? It might have been..she was a rich Princess after all. Then again, the way Iago looked at her sometimes made her wonder if he felt anything for her as well. Maybe Iago had grown to like her? He didn't have to love her, a simple liking would have sufficed for her. There was no way a Prince could LOVE a peasant girl like her, not with beautiful Princesses vying for a husband. She couldn't compete with those girls...not in a million years. She realized that he hadn't turned away when he'd said that he contemplated their kisses and wondered what he would say about them. Jocelyn had kissed him on the cheek while Evie had kissed his forehead. Evie leaned over and kissed him on the cheek and felt a jolt speed around her entire body from the tips of her hair down to her toes. Simple touches from him did this to her and she did her best to suppress them.
"How are they different?" Evie wondered, still feeling warm and dazed.

Iago sighed softly. He reached up to where she'd kissed him. This time, he had felt something. He could still feel her lips against his cheek, and it had felt...great. Almost as if she really did like him. "Well..." he said softly, looking into her eyes. "Hers held nothing for me. It just was. No emotion, no feeling." he said truthfully. "I can't even remember how her lips felt when they touched my skin. Yours..." he trailed off, thinking about how he should word it. "I can still feel your lips pressed against my cheek." he said simply. He figured that anything more would just be pushing his luck.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie blushed a bright shade of red and wondered how strong his feelings were for her. She wished at that moment she could be a Princess too...usually she hated the kind. Hated them for their stuck-up and snobby ways. She hated their unfeeling nature and how much they wanted to just throw extravagant parties and banquets like Jocelyn. Then and there however after she'd kissed him on the cheek, she wished she could be one...then he could propose to her and she knew that she would love him forever and he could love her too because she would have been Royalty. Then she realized that....maybe he didn't have any feelings towards her? She'd been displaying her emotions for all to see, she'd kissed him a few times and he'd only reacted by putting his hand up to the place here her lips had once been a moment ago and nothing else besides saying that he felt something through her kiss and not Jocelyn's. She hated falling for people...she never knew what they thought or what their motives were. Evie hadn't ever gotten this close to another man before and it made her feel nervous and uncomfortable.
"The feeling should go away...." Evie mused.

Iago smiled softly, keeping eye contact. She was so cute when she blushed. Even if she wasn't a princess, or wasn't as beautiful as many of them, he didn't care. Her beauty was better, because it was all her own: no dresses, no makeup...it was her, plain and simple. "I don't want it to." he said softly, still smiling.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie looked back at him and averted her eyes from his. She couldn't seem to form coherent sentences in her mind at that point and struggled to regain her composure.
"Why?" Evie asked simply.
Why didn't he want the feeling of her lips to go away? Did she mean something to him after all? Had all her wishes and pleads to the stars come true...or was this a cruel trick of fate? She hoped not, oh she hoped with all her might that it wasn't so. Evie wanted to be up front about everything and tell him exactly what she felt but she knew she couldn't do that...not without hurting the both of them.

Iago still looked at her, even though she looked away. He still had a soft smile on his face. Well, it was going to be said sooner or later. He edged his hand forward a little so that it brushed against hers. "Because it feels nice." he said truthfully. He was blushing a little, but he didn't care, at all.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie turned again to look at him and jumped when she'd noticed where his hand was. It wasn't there a moment ago...she could have sworn it. She looked at it for a moment, how close it was to touching her and she smiled. He'd said her kiss had felt nice and Jocelyn's had nothing behind it for him. On another, not as drastic as the first, impulse, Evie had slipped her hand under Iago's and left it there. The instant warmth that was generated took her by immediate surprise. Why was he so warm? She looked at him, his cheeks were rosy from blushing and that made her smile even more. He looked normal now...not so Prince-like but someone Evie could get close to without feeling insecure and inferior.
"It does?" Evie questioned again. She wondered what he would say to her eventually if she kept prodding like she'd been doing. "Why is that?"

"Because you're different." Iago said with a smile that matched hers. It was great to see her sincerely smile, and to have it still on her face. He gently brought his thumb back and forth, stroking the hand under his. "Because unlike Jocelyn, you're just the type of person I can see myself...liking." he didn't want to say loving, just so he didn't come off as obvious, but then again...she did apparently have some of his feelings.

ஐ----тһε ßlα¢кšмıтһ----ஐ εviε Evie noticed his pause between that crucial sentence and her entire face lit up for a very quick instant. He had feelings for her....she was absolutely sure of this now, without a doubt she knew and she was as happy as she'd ever been. She remembered a time when she was almost as happy, her mother had surprised her with a beautiful necklace from her childhood and that couldn't even compare to what she felt now. She felt his hand gently rub hers and she almost felt like crying again...though they would have been tears of utter joy.
"You can see yourself....liking me hm?" Evie repeated his words just as he had, leaving a conspicuous pause between the same words he had. She shook her head at him and smiled. "You....are not very secretive." Evie hinted that she knew how he felt, at least a fraction and couldn't stop herself from throwing her arms around his neck and giving him a fierce hug.
"All this time I thought you were an unfeeling jerk of a Prince." She teased.

"Yes, you are." Iago said, feeling a little better. She hadn't freaked out. She appeared to be okay with it. That was good. "You're the opposite of Jocelyn...which is what I am. Qualities like that are what I'm looking for." he told her with a bright smile. He laughed at her teasing. "I know. You always acted like you hated the thought of being in the same town as me." he fired back, laughing again.
