Ghosting is a trick on Gaia. Basically, you equip the item on your avatar. You don't hit save. Then you sell the item. See, the item will show up on the screen where you change your items. Then you hit Save. The item won't actually be in your inventory. But it will show up on your avatar anyway. Then, as soon as you change that part of your avatar. It will disappear. Also, a ghosted item will just suddenly disappear without notice. So, that is why it is called a "ghosted" item.
On the subject of ghosted items. If anyone ever asked to "borrow" an item to ghost it. They are a scammer and should be regarded as such.
