That's a great idea, Dessert! I like it! If the other's agree, it's the next subforum I'll put up!

I wouldn't mind moderating it, so don't worry about that. Let's see how many people say yes xD
Five people have said yes already so...I think we should give it ago!

I enter about one a year because I never get the chance to research as I'm always writing my novels.

I said 1-2. I used to enter loads every year, and built up a great portfolio of short stories, but these days my ideas are bigger and so I find myself devoting more and more time to novels instead of short stories which I can enter into competitions. sweatdrop

I feel bad about it, but I guess I just enjoy novels more, and getting out of the practice of writing for contest deadlines now means it's more difficult than it ever was before.

blahs... I can't do anything 1500 words... I start with something small and I just add and add, that;s why editing my novel is taking so long, well no it's taking so long because i have to add details and more emotion, but I'm also adding parts...

but I used to enter 2 a year... i don't do them anymore because I never enter anything I might want to sell one day in a contest... I don't want any of my stories to be taken, you know? I always take forever writing them half the time i can't finish anything for competitions in time

In the Contest Forum, I am constructing a list of competitions people can enter and you can add your own if you so wish but only if they are real-life contests.

Thank you!

Okay for the 1st March poll I chose:
Horror specials - mostly Point Horror and Goosebumps

However...

I also read in the library when bored Asterix and Obelisk along with Alex Rider books and I was brought up on Harry Potter.

(Thread on Childhood book is in the Chatterbox)

Uhm.. which part of childhood are we talking about? When our parents read to us, or when we read to ourselves?

Had to pick other either way. Parents read fairy tales (brothers grimm) and winnie the pooh, and once I started reading, it was Astrid Lindgren and Erich Kaestner as well as Michael Ende.

Wasn't till my later teens that a friend introduced me to Pratchett biggrin

I chose general teenage fiction, because I was widely read, even as a kid. I read so much that it's hard to categorise it all! Although, it was mostly Goosebumps (but I wasn't a big fan of Point Horror in general...) whee

I would read anything as a kid, with horror ("real"---poltergeists, real haunted houses, etc.---and not) and fantasy duking it out for the top spot. I think horror wins it over by a margin, however, considering books of scary story collections and "real" horror tended to overtake my usual library haul...I was and still am a Goosebumps geek, however. <3

I didn't read much growing up but I did fall in love with Emily Rodda's series Deltora Quest. I'd by nature always been into the fantasy genre though and always took out picture books and encyclopedias on such subjects (I still do).
