Lily snorted. "Potter's idea of giving me a compliment is telling me I don't look completely terrible today. He wouldn't know how to give a compliment if it slapped him in the face." Though they were derisive words, however, they weren't said harshly.

Lily was silent for a moment. "I'll make a deal with you, Remus. You talk to Snape and get him to at least not completely hate as I'm sure he does right now, and I will talk to Potter. Does that sound fair to you?"

"Deal. But I still don't think Severus will want to hear anything i have to say." After all Remus kept preaching that they needed to fight for their relationship and it must have looked like he just gave up on it.

Lily gave him a look that clearly said she was thinking he was one of the least intelligent people she knew right now. "You do realize you're a wizard in your fifth year at Hogwarts, right? There are ways to make people listen to you. Full-body binding curses, hexes to make their ears twice as big so they have better hearing, stuff like that. Try it. Besides, you never know. When people are hurt like that, talking it out with the other person sometimes makes it better."

Remus raised an eyebrow. "You also know people don't like when they're hexed. I highly doubt it'll make anything better between me and Severus if I start going around hexing and cursing him. But I'll try talking to him without harming him."

Lily shrugged. "Do it however you want. Just talk to him, okay? I might not like him any more, but he was once my friend. I don't want to see him hurt like that."

Lily nodded and continued on their patrol in silence. When they were finished, she sighed and gave Remus a hug. "I'll see you tomorrow night, Remus. Don't forget our deal."

James and Sirius looked up as Remus finally came in through the portrait hole. "Hey, Moony," James greeted from across the room. "Where you been? It seems like it took you longer than usual today." Sirius smiled when he saw his mate walk in. "Hey, love," he murmured.

"Me and Lily were talking and didn't realize our shift had ended already." Remus smiled at Sirius. "Hey." He sat down next to him and gave him a kiss. "Oh and James me and Lily made a deal. She's going to talk to you so this is your chance don't blow it."

"What kind of deal would involve Evans willingly talking to me," James grumbled, in a state of depression both by his own behaviour earlier that evening and by the fact that Remus got to spend more time with Lily than he did.
