Sir Kyle Aziz
All done workin' in the prisons. Yay, now I hope I never go back.
I didn't get shanked but I was in a fight.
ooo do tell
Well, the prisons here outsource to the Commissionaires when they need someone to watch over contractors doing work inside the prisons. I was in the "gladiator" pit prison. They can't stop the violence in there, it's a medium prison with maximum security prisoners in it.. So basically it's gangs and bikers and other criminals and obviously they fight and kill each other.
So the contractors I was working with hire inmates from the prison and teach them trades and work so they're the ones who do all the deconstruction and construction work. It's good for them to learn trades and the like and it's much cheaper too.
Well, one of the days there, me armed with only a radio, a hardhat and my trusty steels(work boots). I didn't have a fire-arm, taser or pepperspray as I'm not
legally allowed to use those. Well one of the guys workin' must have a chip on his shoulder for someone else and he sucker punches a guy in the back of the head. I immediately call it in on the radio and without thinking rush in. The attacker's back is to me and I land my shoulder/elbow square in his spine as he's kicking at the downed inmate and everyone is watching. The guy I run into falls and gets back up and turns to me ready to attack. I assume the fighting stance taught to me during my days in police foundations and lash out with a turning kick. I caught him in his common peroneal like training taught me. To be honest it happened so fast it was basically all training at that point no thinking involved. Only downside was I hit him with my toes instead of with the bottom of my shin. It bent my foot back and basically sprained my ankle in the process. However the guy dropped 'cause his leg gave out. Then before I knew it there was 10 or so prison guards in the room in full riot gear yelling and screaming.
I got in trouble but nothing more then a verbal "You shouldn't have gone in there, you should have waited" yadda yadda. I mean, chances are if I see that guy again I might be in trouble but he was basically on lockdown for a long while because of that incident and definately not allowed back to work. So I was able to ride out my last week or so in that spot until someone else got the position.
If I had to do it again... I can't say I'd act any differently. I'm not about to watch a guy get beat while he's down.
