humm did both those washes, must not be dark enough. i'll run another coat.

or, you might have them 'set up' for washing.
I fidn that using really, really dark darks and really, really bright brights before a wash really bring out ork skin.
I would go:
Dark angels, Orkhide shade, Snot Green, Goblin Green, Thraka Wash.
that I found is a really good Highlight scheme, as the muscles are very profound if done correctly.
not saying those are bad starters, at all.
you should see mine lol .
just challenge yourself by the artists motto:
I can do better.

for the green i just did snot and a thraka wash, so that could be why its sorta flat. i might try something like that for my larger models, while im sure it looks good its not exactly time effective when one has like 100 boys, lol.

Have some nearly done tankies then. Got to do weathering/battle damage/painting in general, but they'll do for stopping the blight of picatures. razz

I like them, plus it's the ame colourscheme I used on my own guards before I sold them, not perfect for warfare but I just love black and red!

Nice job, that's a lot of plasma though haha. Funny thing is I just bought one of those and plan on building it/painting it. So it'll be my first model too!

I just need to figure out what colour scheme/wash I want to do it in.

An is that a Dark Angels icon on the back? What's that doing there? A Dark Angels executioner?

I would like to say first off that these are NOT my work, I just feel that I would be doing everyone here a disservice by not sharing these utterly tremendous scratchbuilds. All credit to Tebrey- the God of plasticard.

So I've started painting and assembling my firewarriors.

I think using a white base coat was a poor choice with using the Space Wolves Grey and Codex grey. But it might only need one base coat to hide the white underneath.

Now I found that after spraying the paint has left little bumps all over (the skull white Citadel spray can) my models. An I also believe it was easier to spray the units while they were still in the sprues. Am I doing that right? Lol it just seemed more appropriate rather then assembling legs/body/heads for everyone and then spray painting them and having to spray the smaller pieces is a nightmare I've learned. Unless they're in sprues of course.

But back on the issue of the little bumps, are they supposed to be there? It seems that when I painted over it, the paint took just fine and looks smooth. Will I have to do a second coat? (I thought I had the proper grey but I don't so I'll have to go grab it tomorrow. I have Citadel grey and not Codex.) However when I'm finished my first model which will be the squad seargent or Shas'ui I'll take a picture and ask for serious strong critizism and what I can do to improve the rest of my squad.

Final word, what wash should I use? I think Bedab black was on the cloth pieces, and I'm not sure about the armour parts. They're light coloured (As visible on the GW site looking at the Bork'an sept) so I think that maybe a white or light grey wash would be good?

Edit; Well I've been painting and trying.. So, here's 8 pictures of my first 5 Tau Firewarriors. I have only washed one, and I washed his shield too. He's the one I put together before I started painting and then said to myself. The hell with painting Tau put together!

Any tips on how to improve what I've done. (Yes I see the blue on the gun sight, I'll get that tomorrow.) I'd appreciate that very much, and you can see on the close up of the gun the bumps left by the white spray can.

Also, What do you guys think of my paint scheme? It's the Bork'an one from the codex except, I've kinda painted the boots black and not just the feet black. I felt it looked more proper even though they look kinda jack booted now. Lol. I think it looks nice, with the blue wash which I watered down a bit more because I didn't want it too blue. (See Shas'ui shield.) So what should I dry brush with? I was thinking of touching up the space wolves grey parts with more space wolves grey, then giving the whole model some white dry brushing.

You've got a nice and clean colour scheme there Kyle, it might be best to set one model aside and experiment with it to your hearts content until you've found the scheme that you like best.

Why thank you. I haven't done anything yet as I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do. An' how the heck I'm going to do it.

You do it by just doing it. Experiment away! Grab a drybrush and give it a go, or try a wash here and there.

Finally painted the bugger, not the best of painting but he'll do fine for my Empire force!
