A lil rough around the edges, but my basic process for coloring lips. 1. The starting point. 2. Block in the lip color. I start with the lower lip color as the base then to get the base tone for the upper lip I switch the mode of the Brush tool to the Multiply setting on low opacity and draw a line over and over until the shade looks appropriate and the block in the upper lip. 3. Keep in mind the light source and build up the basic shadows. 4. The highlights. The most important step since it establishes volume. Technically only the one big white dot on the left is needed, but to match my eye style, there are multiple reflected lights. To make the black line for the lips disappear normally I would have taken better care to match and blend it into the surrounding colors.

Studying those steps, I can already see some things that I never took into account the times I've attempted making more detailed lips. The coloring job I'm doing right now isn't exactly in a style for those kinds of lips, but I'll definitely have to try it out next time I'm doing one of my own drawings.

Done for today. There's still some more processing I'd like to do before I call the face finalized, but I think I'll come back to it later.

Getting there. About 25% done now. This is starting to make me feel like I want to cry. Just because I can put in a bunch of detail doesn't mean I should. emotion_facepalm

Going back and correcting some shading and anatomical issues. Not much progress. Mostly just various lighting effects being added because I'm not really feeling creative enough to do much.

Grah, her ribs shouldn't have a back light because she's wearing that cloak thing... but I'm not changing it now.
