I've heard the term "whatnot" used for the shelves before, too. My gramma used that phrase a lot. Not just for the shelves, but all the little knicky-knacky things on them. As I indicated before, she also used the term to mean etcetera... She will be 92 in September of this year, and still uses that term, as in "I'm washing the dishes, vacuuming, and whatnot", which I can only take to mean other chores, too.
This delightful "young" lady volunteers at the senior center most days during the lunch hour, helping set up for lunch and clean up after... "taking care of the old people"... Ummm, Gran, you did realize that most of these "old" people are 15 - 20 years younger than you, right? rofl
Anywho - I'll give her a ring in the next few days and see what she's got to say re: the definition as it would have been in the early 1900's. wink

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

I'd, seriously, rather have 1,000 standard coffee cans filled to the brim with quarters--that way, I wouldn't spend it so fast. xd

I really hate working holidays... almost everyone gets to stay home and do what they want... I have to sit here at work and wish I was at home. The only bonus is the triple pay for working holidays.
HAPPY 4TH TO EVERYONE!!!

Lil-Jo I really hate working holidays... almost everyone gets to stay home and do what they want... I have to sit here at work and wish I was at home. The only bonus is the triple pay for working holidays. HAPPY 4TH TO EVERYONE!!!I would love to work holidays, but my work isn't open on nationally recognized holidays. My old job was...it was great. I loved working on holidays--my whole family was at home and I wasn't!
