NEW question.
===

Next Generation.

The Klingons have knives and so on, but there's one hand-weapon that's
"uniquely Klingon".

A) What's the weapon's name?

B) According to Klingon legend, who invented it?

C) What's the rough translation of the weapon's name into English?

One hand weapon? Even if you're asking about one uniquely Klingon, there are several:

meqleH (in klingon), translated to Standard as mek'leth.
Daqtagh (in klingon), translated to Standard as d'k tahg. A three bladed knife.
qutluch, translated as kut'luch. A knife used by killers and used in the ceremony where a young klingon becomes a warrior and spill blood for the first time.
'aqleH. A sort of half betleH.
'oy'naQ. A pain stick.

But I assume you're asking about the betleH. Translated to Standard as bat'leth.

qeylIS (Kahless) made the first one by submerging some of his own hairs in molden lava.
The name of the weapon means "sword of honour" in archaic Klingon. If you want to say sword of honor in modern Klingon it would be batlh'etlh, but is not used to refer to the weapon outside of a linguistic explanation of the meaning of that word.

I should've waited... I know.

I couldn't resist since I'm not coming to check the thread everyday and I'm sure by the time I come back this question would be answered and forgotten. redface

I knew about the mek'leth and bat'leth, but wow...someone knows their Klingon culture.

CORRECT!

I was making a distinction between the batleth and the "knives",
since history alone has given us hundreds of different knife designs.

The qutluch really is pretty standard as knives go, and would qualify
in European parlance as a "kidney dagger" or stiletto.

I've seen knives that are shaped like the s'k tahg, and were not based
on Star Trek. (In fact, some predated the episodes where it appeared.)

The painstick, IMHO, is not really used as a WEAPON per se. Its use
seems to be official or ceremonial. We've seen Klingons do battle lots
of times, but NEVER using a painstick. Its use has been in Rites of
Ascension, and confirming someone is dead, and things like that.

So, technically, that more leaves the 'aqleH, and the batleth.

If I asked about the 'aqleH, I'd run afoul of my own rules-
information about it, in the episodes, is nearly impossible to find.
(Personally, I like it better than the batlelth, though.)

So, that leaves the one weapon that's got a history on the show,
the batlelth.
(Shame we never saw them in the Original Series. Oh, well.)

BTW,
Phil Farrand of the Nitpicker's Guild and I disagree on this question.
In the episode "Rightful Heir", a batlelth is raised, and a question is
asked "who knows how this weapon was made?"
Farrand takes this to mean
"This particular weapon I hold, who knows how this one was forged?"
I take it to mean the same thing you do-
"Who knows the origin of this weapon-type?"
The answer you gave was given in that answer, and also by the
Dahar Master in the episode where they sought the original
"Sword of Kahless".

This is a NextGen question.

Klingons don't, strictly speaking, have a "Devil" figure in their religion.

They do have something that can be seen to act as an equivalent
figure.

Who is it,
and who imitated it on the show?

This is an Original Series question.

The one thing about the original show, that was SUPERIOR to
NextGen, was its ability to air episodes with a moral that
succeeded as an episode and as a moral.

Frank Gorshin was guest-starred in
"Let that be your last battlefield,"
when the Charon (Cheiron?) appeared (Lokai and Bele).

What was the basic plot of the episode,
and what was the moral that it succeeded in getting across?

eek Oh!
I sort of remember that eppy...
I do not remember the name of the "Devil" but I believe the person that pretended to be it was called Ardra?
Something like that.

Ah! I believe the eppy was about two guys with bi-coloured faces who were fighting each other.
On first glance, you would think that they were of the same race, but as one of them explained, one of them had was black on the right side of their face while the other was white on the right side of their face.
Something like that.
The point is, they hated each other because they were coloured differently.
The folly of their prejudice destroyed their world and it could happen to us too if we do not learn from their mistakes.
Um... trite but true.
Me-ow.

Right.
The con artist calling herself Ardra had a disguise imitating the
Klingon "devil".

What's this "devil"s name?

CORRECT!

Frank Gorshin played Comissioner Bele, whose job it was to track down
the fugitive, Lokai. Lokai's "crime" was one of birth-for being born
"black on the wrong side" (or was it "white on the wrong side").
The Cheron had fought a bloody civil war over the skin colours of the
different people on their planet, and wiped each other out while
Bele chased Lokai. When they finally returned home, they learned
nothing, and continued their fight so long as both remained alive,
apparently.
We got sucked into the episode long before we hear the exact nature
of Lokai's "crime", and we have the quite logical response when we
hear it. ("Are you blind?...") The idea that they hated each other for
their skin colour was ridiculous.
(Especially when there are so many REAL reasons to hate others.)

This is also an Original Series question.

As has been shown several times in tv screen stills,
Sulu was practiced in a particular sport,
and, as we saw in "the Naked Time",
he kept the equipment for that sport in his quarters
in the Enterprise.
What was Sulu's sport of choice?
