I might be one of the few that doesn't like anime. I'm not here to offend anybody about liking it but I just cant get into it. I don't know why. I just can't really stand the plots for they all seem the same. I have yet to find one that I like, story wise.

I'm somewhat of a kindergoth, because I shop at Hot Topic. I'm 14, so I cant shop at the awesome online stores, and at Kohls and stuff my mom doesn't let me buy anything black. Even at Hot Topic, I can only get band shirts.

Still, if my opinion counts for anything, I love manga and anime.

thought i think we can all agree that the japanesse voice acting is far much better than that of the american voice acters i say that because the japanese voice almost always fits and the american hardly ever dose

I tend to be on the sub side of the dub vs. sub argument, but there are some instances where the voice acting of the dub crew does well. I think my favorite example is Outlaw Star. Aesha Clan Clan just sounds too... sweet in the original japanese, so I actually perfer the dub in that particular instance. I still agree that generally speeking the original voices have more depth and feeling to them, but on occasion there is a good dub out there.

I could say I'm the same way, I can only shop at Hot Topic rather than online stores. But my parents actually let me wear black and stuff.

Actually I have yet to find some online stores, I'm waiting for the sticky in the Life Issues thing to be updated, the one they have in there is in French and I don't have the European currency since I'm american.

Back on the subject, I like the really weird/comedy anime shows and manga. I like Excel Saga and Dragonball when it comes to anime shows, and Avatar if it counts since it's american made. When it comes to manga I love Dr. Slump.

NONONO! Thats a myth, from back in the early days, and most of the VA's in anime are Canadian, not American. Most dubs are of high quality, believe it or not, people talk about 'loss of emotion' BALLS! there is just the same emotion the japanese VA's put in, but because it sounds foreign and the accent is different you can't tell.

Look at it this way, in japan, VA work is highly regulated, stand there, read, go. In US, they have you running in the booth, lying with your face down, if the character smokes, they give you a pen so you can talk like somethings between your teeth. American VA's go through alot, and pour alot of emotion into it, because they are actually doing whats on screen (in a manner of speaking).

Sorry I get worked up about it. -_- But if you watch behind the scenes at places like ADV or listen to cast and crew commentary, you learn how much effort and what they go through to get the sound to do justice to the image.

Erm... you don't need the different currency online, it gets converted when you order off a credit card automatically.

So go look at Alchemy Gothic's site they have cool stuff if you don't mind waiting for shipping from the UK.

I don't think that I understand where you're coming from on the sub vs. dub argument. To me, I've just see far too many poorly dubbed anime that when it is just subbed sounds all the better (Anime like Sailor Moon, One Piece, etc).

Also, while some of the old english voice work was done in canada, most nowadays is done in U.S. For instance, ADV Films' headquarters in in Texas.

Ok well, i've noticed that 99.9% of goth and emos have interest in manga or anime (yeah, this may be an Ironic question I understand that this site is anime based, but im talking about other sites too), but what is the reason for that? Is there a certain relation between goth and anime?

no, there isn't. however, i think part of it(at least for me) is that anime has this odd tendency to work itself out as a mythos. it defies logical terms of the world, often raises philisophical questions, and has godlike characters, often with a bit of ultraviolence tossed in for good measure. theres also an odd mix in many of the more action packed animes of beauty and ugliness.
