The Bookstore Dilemma

I never really had any trouble latly at buying Yaoi manga. But at first I was scared to death at getting them while with my mom or dad, becasue tey usualy take the book and look through them. When I finally did buy one they didn't look through them.

My mom look at me kind of weirdd when I got one that was wraped in plastic. i think it was Yellow, btu she just but the book on the coner and paid for it. I was scared as hell at that time. And I think she found out what knid of book they were when I bought Passion. But she was cool with it, she just said to her mom "look she buying books about guys haveing sex." I was abot to fall over dead when I heard that.

THis guy who was looking at manga while I was looking for BL saw me pick up Passion 3 abd said "your into that stuff" And I proudly said yeah. And he surprised me with him saying " You should read Yuri it is much better then Yaoi." I couldn't hold in my laugh and I had half the store looking at us. I just pick up anouther Bl book and said maybe but i stick to the beautiful BL for now and went to cashier.

I had two weird experiences this week.

considering im the new girl in grade level, io hadnt really met any anime fans or even yaoi lovers either

until....on monday i went to buy a bagel from my friend's vocal magnet fundraiser thingy..and some girl just decides to talk to me...she kinda scared me though sweatdrop cuz i was telling my friend how sleepy i was because of the internet...

and then the girl mentiioned RikuXSora from KH and tyhen i mention Naruto Slash.....but thing is i wanted to get away from her...cuz she scared me!!! >.O mainly cuz every five seconds when i would mention something she'd be like "OMGAHH WOW!!" but REALLY LOUD.

girl: OMG! WOW!

>.O and then she decided to talk about CSI: Miami slash....i wasnt really paying attention considering im not into CSI....and once more cuz she just freaked me out. i was glad when the bell rang.

the 2nd experience was today rofl it was quite funny actually.

I was waiting for my dad to pick me up, so i was talking with my friend and after a while i went off in my own yaoi filled la la land til she was like Äya come join us" i was like "uh okay"

I see the girl she was talking to to drawing a RikuXSora pic and i was tihnking "SMEX!!!" i couldnt help but burst out loud "OMGAH RIKUXSORAAA!" the girl was like "Omg... you know?!?! SQUEE! i would hug you but im drawing this...wanna copy?" of course i replied "YES! eek 4laugh " and we talked about fandoms and i mentioned that i also wrote yaoi fanfics. and about AxelXRoxas rofl

Then I mentioned that i was real happy today because of the premiere of Naruto Shippozen today and the boy who was with us went like "OMG I LOVE YOUUU! I WOULD HUG YOU IF SHE *my friend* WASNT ON MY LAP!!" and then he got up and hugged me xd and asked me if i knew what his wristband meant...obviously i answered "Gaara" once more i was hugged....

it was really funny....and thetyre in the same grade level as me....so it twas cool...

i may talk to them again xp if i ever see them around...

I remember one time when I was getting Yellow Volume one out of my library along with another explicit manga.
To start off with, the librarian was like 'WTF?! Which way does this book open?" 'Twas rather funny to watch ;] and then she accidently opened the book on a rather...mature page and stared at me breifly before closing it quickly and scanning it.
I left quikly after that as my face was red and I couldn't stand her watching me with a very confused and scared expression... O.o

i live in everyone-hates-gays land, but i buy rather tame BL at the bookstore anyhow...
I was buying Fake and Gravitation, and the guy (he's like 60) gives me this FUNNY look, like he cant believe i'm buying these books...
I politely say 'Good afternoon, can i have these without a bag please... i'll be paying with credit.'
he's like 'um, sure'
so as i'm leaving i say 'you have a good afternoon now'
and he's like 'um, yeah, you too'

when people are mean or un-understanding of me, i'm horribly polite to them... freaks them out...works every time

i was out on one of my "manga buying extravaganzas" lol xD umm i love loveless and gravitation... (if i get anymore bl books my moms gonna have a heart attack xP) anyway i also got some kare kano books which isnt bl books of course lol xD anyway they guy checking out books struck up a conversation with me and was like kare kano is the most awsome romance comedy ever and i was like ya i like it alot too ^^ he took one look at the gravitation and loveless books and gave me a look of utter confusion lol xD i smiled at him and said i like those romances stories too ^^ lol xD (my mom wouldve had a heart attack times 3 if i bought them in front of her and if she heard me say that to the poor guy xD)

'Tis sad, I actually sort of want something to add to this thread...sort of. I don't take to being embarassed well. But honestly, I'm finding it difficult to find any BL manga ( I don't read anything hardcore ), so I hardly buy manga as it as at bookstores. The only time I give a real attempt to is when I go over to our towns little Anime Store ( yes....an anime store. It is so 100 hundred percently awesome! ), and then I can just downright ask the salesguy if he's got anything I like. xD

I don't mind then, only one guy works there, the owner, and he knows me by name now. He pretty much knows what I'm into, unfortunately he just doesn't buy alot of it >.< It's always so amusing though. He'll pull up like six different titles he'd think I'd like but I always end up turning them down xD

They don't have a lot of yaoi around here... ^^;; it's hard to find in the bookstores, and Borders is the only one with any manga at all. *sigh* I did find one gravitation book... and demon diary if that counts. xD I like buying yaoi when my friend zander is with me, he's always really embarassed about it.

I never seen people at the yaoi secetion when i go there but one time i went to the manga area and a guy pointed and laughed at me.... i threw my shoe at him.... im sorta mean.....

Oh, man, did I have a good experience a couple weeks ago. So, one weekend my best friend and I felt the rouse to go shopping build up within us, so we drove to the nearest large city with the only mall in our area. Well, near the mall, there's this gigantic Borders, one of the only bookstores in the area that sells yaoi, so it's a given that we stop by whenever we're up there. Okay, so we walk in and go over to the huge manga section and as I'm browsing, there are these three "gansta" guys looking at the section next to it. So, I'm standing there facing the manga and they're facing their section in the same aisle and I'm grabbing all of these yaois and such and putting them in my pile. (When I go book shopping, I buy at least five...at least. lmao) Well, not only are they giving me weird looks because I'm looking at "gay porn" in their eyes, I'm dancing to music they're playing in the store. So, I decided to only get four books, since I was going prom dress shopping later, and the most slashiest was a plastic wrapped book entitled "Man's Best Friend", which has a very provocative picture on the cover. Well, I take my books up to the counter, and since I'm only seventeen, I was trying to get my eighteen year old friend to buy the books for me, but she left her ID in the car. So, I hand the older woman, maybe in her forties, at the register the books, hoping she wouldn't card me. Well, she rung up the books and read the title slowly, out loud each time. Once she got to "Man's Best Friend" I nearly cringed. Well, come to turn out, two of the books didn't ring out, so she rung them ALL up again and read ALL of the titles out loud again. Then, she read them out loud again as she put them in the bag. I was about to punch her and say "LADY, WOULD YOU GIVE ME MY PORN SO I CAN LEAVE WITHOUT A HEART ATTACK?!" It was all...very nerve-wracking. I shouldn't have been worried to be carded since I look like I'm nineteen or so. -_-'

I've also been sitting at my desktop watching yaoi when my dad walked into the kitchen, which you can look into the living room from. Sad thing was, I kept watching it and bested out laughing when the character started getting banged on the couch. My dad never said a word, but just walked back upstairs with his food.

I leave my yaoi sitting out all the time and I even have pictures of it on my walls. Sometimes I wonder what my parents think, since they kinda offered me psychiatric help when I told them I was bisexual a few years ago. I wonder if they're used to my interest in homosexual relationships or just in denial. roflmao.

But this other time I was at Barnes & Nobles and just cruising through various manga when this came up acting all nervous. He looks at me, looks at the "L" section, looks at me again, smiles, looks at the "L" section, and then quickly grabs Legal Drug(which is sorta shonen ai) and then dashes out of the manga section like a bat outa Hell. It was so funny.

The other day I was at Walden Books and I was buying the 4th vol. of Love Mode and the 4th vol. of Anne Freaks(which are like polar opposites. Love Mode-sweet yaoi story. Anne Freaks-death to all of mankinf with lots of blood and gore, and absolutely no yaoi or even possible slash pairings.) So I have unwrapped vol. 4 of Love Mode so that I could buy it and I walk up the register. The cashier just happened to be a guy. He looks at Love Mode, which had a semi suggestive cover and a big parental warning tag on it, and just checks it out. Then he picks up Anne Freaks, looks at it, then looks at me with a scrutinizing face, looks at Love Mode, then back to Anne Freaks, shakes his head in a puzzelled(sp?) way, and then checks me out. It was really funny 'cause he was more freaked out that I was buying Anne Freaks than being a minor and buying 18+ Love Mode. Ahhh. That made my day.

I don't know if any of you have had this experience, but I browse around in bookstores a lot. And a lot of my purchases are manga. And a lot of my manga are BL. And a lot of the covers for BL give it away as such. Very. Very. Obviously.

And I get self conscious. Ahahaha. XD

But sometimes- like just today- I encountered somebody else browsing BL. O__O While I was innocently reading Princess Princess, (It's not BL TECHNICALLY- although I was hugely amused that the author intended it to be at first, but that's neither here nor there.) I looked beside me to see this woman- she had to be nineteen or so- thumbing through La Esperansaca. And I figured, "Okay, it's kind of a shojo manga, even though it has BL. Maybe she just thinks it's pretty. XD" And then I went back to Princess Priness and that was that. But I glance up again and I see she's got Only the Ring Finger Knows and Loveless under her arm. And my initial reactions was, "Holy crap! A kindred spirit! rofl "

What kind of experiences do you have while looking at BL or Yaoi at bookstores? Discuss different experiences with store clerks, with other customers, or while just browsing. :3

I like reading the BL books even though there ending is given away... I have no shame in the manga I read I usually run in to someone who is looking at the same stuff I am....

i just bought Only the Ring Finger Knows and Earthian this weekend...and i was short of change!! eek

so i was embarassed cuz i was stuck at the register and i had to wait for my mom to come out of jc penneys just to give me 75 cents.... redface

the guy stared at me funny for the BL content.... gawwwwd, it was embarassing mainly cuz afterwards my mom asked why it was 4 dolalrs mroe expensive then the manga i usualyl boguht...i didnt want to show her OTFK so i showed her the CG artwork on the first page of Earthian....she thoguht Chihaya was a girl luckily for me.... sweatdrop

well one things for certain im officially broke as hell..not a penny to my name since that bookstore splurge.
