I've liked shounen ai and yaoi since the dear age of 11. I remember sitting at my desk with 3 other guys. I watched the guy across from me and another guy. They hung out ALL the time. I started thinking to myself "They've got to have some kind of relationship going on." THEN BAM! My tender-aged 11 year old mind started to boggle.

Now here I am, age 16 and still loving it.
BUT I've gotten extremely pervy since then.

I'm 19 and I slashed things when I was younger about the age 11 or 12 when I started and I like fanart then but I did't know about BL or yaoi until a few years ago. I know I was mature when I was younger but I also know that there are a lot of kids ages 8-11 who are not. I say if a kid under stands at that age what BL and yaoi is and know they like it then their parents should let them read and watch BL At that age they should not watch or read hardcore. I know I didn't get into hardcore a little until I was 12 going on 13 (my b-day is in december). I now like hardcore and fluffy stuff. As for telling people I like this stuff will the fluffy manga I show everyone I like to see their reactions, everyone sees me as this sweet little incenant girl and it shocks them when they find out i like yaoi and BL. Umm... I don't know if my parients know I like BL, I didn't tell them but I had pics on my moms computer when I lived with them. I know my brother does and my sister might if she looks at most of my top friends on myspace. My friends know and some like yaoi and BL too.

I'm nineteen but I didn't really know much about yaoi til I got a computer when I was 15, I was into anime back when I was like six but I didn't know what it was til Middle School. I turned bi like around a month after I turned 12. I've loved Yaoi even more than the real thing. YNM is probably my favorite but I adore Gravi, like so many others here. I even plan on Cos-playing as Shuichi for AFO in Orlando this year.I'm growing my hair out now so I can go for the whole look and not have to wear a wig. Having pink hair is going to be intresting.

Were you drawn into yaoi because of anime or some other way, like Harry Potter perhaps? I do believe it was anime. Gundam Wing, to be precise, and 3x4 to name the couple.

Was if fanfiction that converted you, or maybe fanart? Fanfiction.

Do you find that you're discriminated against because of your age? Not particularly. At 21 people tend to actually start seeing you like an adult, so long as you act like it.

Do you feel that perhaps you're not mature enough to deal with some of the content? Now? No. As stated before, I'm 21. I know that if there's content that I don't like, I just need to not look at it.

What age do you consider to be mature enough? 15-16. Any younger than that and you get a lot of people who only think that they're mature. (I'm not saying that everyone under the age of 15 is like this, but an awfull lot of them are. Just look at Gaia as a whole if you don't believe me)

Are there fans that annoy you? Um, the vast majority? sweatdrop No, seriously, a lot of fangirls bother me. Sometimes it seems as if every yaoi fangirl "hates" female characters in anime/manga/video games. Hate is not a word to be used lightly like that. I can understand disliking a character, but hate is really too strong of a word to use for fictional characters. (Especially when some of these charaters really aren't that bad. I mean, really, what's wrong with Kairi? She's adorable, and you don't even see her for most of the game.)

Also, anyone who uses netspeak, and who doesn't use proper capitalisation. Netspeak bothers me like nothing else in the world, and unless your shift key is broken, there is not reason for you to not be capitalising the first word of your sentence.

Are you angry that places like Y!Gallery won't let you join because of your age? This is a non-issue, since I'm old enough to join... Also I don't have an acount there since I never draw anything that I couldn't post on DA anyway. When I was under 18 I use to think that it was stupid for places to not let you see things because of age, but looking back, I realised that if I was too young to understand their reasons for it, than I was probably too young to access their site.

Are you a "squeeeee" type of fan or do you feel that you hold yourself with more maturity? I certainly wouldn't call myself "mature", but I'm far from a "squeeeee" type of fan. That's not to say that I've never squeeed over a character, it just means that I don't do it in all caps and claim that "they're mine and OMG no one else can have them!"

What are your yaoi genre preferences (fluff, hardcore, etc)? Fluff all the way. XD

I just happened upon yaoi. I was apart of a site that was for Gundam Wing fans. One of my friends had an account there and I was curious to see it for myself. I found a section that was called "Fan Fiction" I was about... Oh... 13 maybe [I'm 19 now, 20 in Sep. '07]. I was an idiot and didn't know what fiction was, let alone paired up with "fan," I was completely confused. So, curious, I checked it out. There wasn't much for descriptions of the stories. There were numbers like [1x2] or [3x4] and then names next to it, Heero and Duo. Heero was a favorite character of mine, so I checked out one about him. At the top of the story, there was a brief description, I can't even recall what it was, but it also mentioned "Yaoi"--another term I wasn't familiar with. So I just kept on reading. And suddenly clothes came off. And there were things happening... and bodily liquids. I was... intregued. I thought it very interesting. So I tried to find more. Then I found out that Yaoi was a term used for graphic male relationships. I also could almost actually see the coupling in the show when I watched it.
After that, I started to see other male characters in different shows connecting. And not just males, I noticed right away in Sailor Moon, some yuri couples, other than the main Uranus/Neptune coupling. I was thoroughly convinced that artists and authors put in characters in the background that were drawn together. Some would only slightly hint at it, others would make it totally obvious. Examples would be [yuri and yaoi couplings here, sorry] The Jupiter/Mercury coupling in Sailor Moon. If you look at art by Naoko Takeuchi, those two are usually together. In the manga, they appear together frequently when all the scouts are together. Then there are couples like Touya and Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura. Clamp seemed to make their relationship very obvious. Everyone who read knew that Touya had feelings for Yukito, yet Yukito seems totally clueless.
People like to think "Oh, you're too young to know about something like that." Well then what exactly is a good time to know about it? When you're a legal adult is when you are allowed to see gay and lesbian relationships? I find it wrong. If I had not... "discovered" [for lack of a better term] this, I probably would not have been able to accept more than half the friends I have right now, because they are gay. To me, it doesn't depend on your age, but your mental state. Some people will look at something like this and think "Oh my God, girls are doing it! I'm gonna wank to it!", those who are immature. Then you would have the more intelligent people who would look at it and disect it, seeing how true it is [which most of the time, it isn't quite true.] If you are willing to accept it as a lifestyle [and not sexual pleasure], then I say go for it.
There are some fans that annoy the hell out of me. One such example would be the closed minded people. I've seen a post on a site where someone refused to hear anything about Sasuke [from 'Naruto'] being an uke, because he was "obviously Seme!" and that if anyone mentioned Sakura, he would kill them. That said girl was just in the way. I, personally, am a big fan of Sasuke. For a while, I saw him only as seme for Naruto. Then I ran into a girl at a convention a few months back who opened my eyes and showed me Uchihacest, Sasuke as an uke. I was shocked at first, however, accepted it. I love Uchihacest, but my love for my first Sasu/Naru coupling hasn't died. Sakura, I'll admit is a character who is just in the way at the beginning of the series, however, said person hated her because she was in the way of the Sasu/Naru relationship. Hating a female character just because they believe she is in the way of a yaoi pairing is silly.
I could call myself a bit of a 'squee' fan. If I see something absolutely adorable, doesn't matter the coupling, I squee. If it's beautiful artwork, I will sit and admire how it was put together. I'm... I'm not sure, a bit of an all over fan. I have seen so many different things that not much really phases me. I look at fan art, I see masterpieces, cutesy doodles, graphic art... I can stare at just about any image all day if it is well put together... It could be a group shot in the leaves, a head shot of a single character, or a little chibi hanging off a cloud.

Love isn't finding a perfect person.

Well, I'm 17, but I got into BL when I was... 10? Officially, I think it was 10 or 11. sweatdrop I know, very young, but it happened and I couldn't really help it. I was definitely drawn into BL by anime fanfiction.

I don't necessarily feel as if I'm discriminated against for my age. I mean, when I was young, I acted more mature than my age and now... I've just kind of maintained the old attitude. I believe that everyone's maturity level differs because of who they are, and there really can't be any set age where someone becomes mature. I mean, there are some really mature young people, and there are some adults that are very immature.

I think that the fans that I get annoyed with the most would have to be the hater!fans (the ones who are constantly bashing different characters with no respect for the people who like the characters) and the clueless!fans (ie-the ones who can't bother to like a character or a couple for any other reason except "OMG!!!11! their sooooo hott!!!!1!").

I don't think that I get mad at places like Yahoo for putting age restrictions, especially since there are many young fans who can't handle adult-rated material. I understand why they do it more than anything.

Hmmm.... What type of fan am I, huh? Well, I'm going to have to say that I'm a mixture of both a "squee!" fan and a mature fan. I can't see myself being mature without the "squee!", nor can I see myself being a "squee!" fan without being mature.

I lean more towards fluffy BL. I also find myself getting into darker, angstier BL, as well (which is wierd, because traditionally, I tend to shy away from angst). I don't like plotless hardcore, pornie BL, but I have to admit that when there's a plot, the hardcore stuff really makes the relationship in the fic more deep.

It's seeing an imperfect person perfectly.

I'm almost 20 now, and how I got into yaoi? It is a pretty amusing story actually, at least for myself. My best guy friend and I are waaay into anime, anyway, I was 15 when he came asking me questions, because he finally got this boyfriend, but he got no idea how gay relationships worked. After scolding him for a while, I told him I will do some research for him. The encyclopedia obviously wasn't of any help, so I decided to search online, but my first stop was this anime page I used to check, there I found a scanlation of a shounen-ai manga, and links, I followed them, printed the manga, read fanfictions, and I just got hooked. After that I did a proper research and sent the results along with the manga to my friend. After that, I just couldn't stop and I was draw into the wonderful world of yaoi...
I never felt discrimitated because of my age... guess that the kind of environment I was didn't allow it! I always acted way more mature for my age, so I never had a problem dealing with any kind of situations. The level of maturity doesn't have anything to do with the age, I firmly believe that, it is more a matter of personality perhaps?
The kind of fans that annoy me? Are the hater types... they just slowly make me lose it...
I'm more the mature can of fan, but I can help go "squeee" once in a while.
Age restrictions? They are good, because not every minor can handle the content of some things.
I'm more into the fluff type, but a good hardcore is real good! I can read angst, as long as it has a happy ending at the end, I get easily deppresed, that's why I usually don't read angst at all.

Are there fans that annoy you?

Posting again because of a huge wank-fest on another forum I'm on that has made me very, very disgusted and annoyed with shotacon and lolicon fangirls.

I used to be sort-of okay with it, and even ventured a bit into it with Larsa from Final Fantasy XII (since he's mature and doesn't act like a typical 12 year old). But, after that, I'm definitely going to be sticking with fanfiction and fanart where Larsa is at least 16. (Since that's the legal age of consent in my country)

There are some seriously sick individuals who are into shota/loli. I'm not saying that all of them are, but there are some who are really hypocritical and need therapy and... just... ugh.

Just because these aren't real children doesn't mean that it's okay! I am so sick of hearing the "it's just fantasy, I would never look at pictures like that of real kids" bullsh*t excuse! Do these people even think about what they're looking at?!

[/rant]

Sorry about that, but I really needed to get that off my chest, and decalre myself completely OUT of the shota fandom. Larsa is not to be touched until he is 16, thankyouverymuch.

Flame me if you want, I don't care.

*claps* I agree. Stuff involving minors is very, very, very disturbing. *shakes head* Unless it's cute little kid stuff between little kids. For example, little kids trying to figure out what a kiss is and seriously screwing it up--but oh! That's always so adorable.

"It's called kissing, Momo-kun. My mommy and daddy said that they do it because they love each other. I love you, Momo-kun, you're my bestest friend! Can I give you a kiss?"

"Okay. How do we do it?"

"Well, we just kinda hafta do this." [tries to kiss Momo-kun and ends up smacking their foreheads together]

I'm SUPER underage...... Currently, I'm 13. I started reading yaoi fanfiction three years ago, in my 6th grade. XD In the beginning, I didn't even know what yaoi, BL, or shounen ai meant! I was only browsing the search engine with my favorite manga (DNAngel) when I came across a forum about it. There was this one person, purplelantern I believe, who said she wrote a fanfic and would like people to comment it. As a naive 11-year-old, I just clicked the link and read the fanfiction. O_O My "innocent" eyes were opened, and I talked about it with an upperclassman of mine, and she noticed my peaked curiosity. lol And so started my mission to find good yaoi manga/anime/fanfiction. And yes, my curiosity has led me to some hardcore yaoi several times.

Oh, stuff like that doesn't bother me. That's just cute and innocent. It's stuff that kids actually DO.

But, yeah, there is some stuff that... well... I've done my rant already. It shouldn't need to be repeated.

Yeahh, because of the age I started yaoi I'm pretty sure I'm a little bit messed up in the mind. I actually started yaoi when I was about 10 (which is when I found out one of my friends was gay). Then, I started getting into the hentai (porn) when I was 12, now I'm 15 adn really pervy o.o;;

Um, how I got drawn into it? Well, I was attracted to BL in general because of a couple pieces of fanart, then I found myself spontaneously wanting to read Loveless and Gravitation, and then I can thank the Vampire Chronicles for officially hooking me. (Louis and Lestat are just too cute. whee )

What age do I consider to be mature enough? I'm not sure, really. I have a friend that's a seventh-grader this year, and when we watch Gankutsuou, I find myself making references to my suspicions about the relationship between Franz and Albert, and using terms that she doesn't get. Then I find myself hinting at what they mean, but not actually telling her. With anyone else, I probably would just tell them what I was muttering about... Maybe I don't really have a set limit. Maybe I just figure, 'Well, if they're as corrupted as I, or my age, then I'll tell them.' But whether I'm really old enough to be reading yaoi, I don't know. Maybe I consider myself mature enough, just because I've been exposed to it already. Hmmmm...

I'm a "Squeeeee...!" kind of fan. My friend and I Squee a lot while playing this one game (*points at signature*) and when we go on about various pairings that are obsessions for us...

Favorite kind of yaoi? I'm not sure. Fluff is cute, and I'm an angst addict... Flangst, I guess. (Heheh! That's a fun word! xd )
