*does some checking*
A Forensic Psychologist, actually, is one who specializes in work with the
legal system.

An Investigative Psychologist is one who covers the fields of investigation,
and covers more ground than a profiler.

You're calling for two-so one of each might be best. wink

smile I agree.

Do we still need something else or did we cover everything? *tries to remember all the info already discussed* When finished, we should put all the info of the ship in one post so I can save it. wink This is too good to let it sit in here to die.

If this was on a show, there'd be a certain amount of humor at some
point about the only Psychologists on the ship being experts in criminal
behavior and not general counselling. smile

You mean you think I should have a counsellor too... mrgreen
It could probably be a good idea to have one. As long as there's room, we can still add some people not in the basic crew.

Since we numbered the crew so specifically, I'd say we can add 5 more
crew- 1 general ship's counsellor, one barber/hairdresser, one bartender,
and 2 more for incidental things we're forgetting.

You also need a name for the ship. Any thoughts in that regard?

I think we've covered everything. If not, I'm willing to call it "done", by
now! smile

Except, of course, the ship's name, as I just noted. Any thoughts on
that one?

So, if I understand correctly....

This ship began as a standard Intrepid-class Starfleet vessel. To provide
for superior investigation and for superior jurisprudence across Federation
space, this vessel has been modified from the standard internal
configurations. Its brig (and secondary brig) have been rebuilt and
reinforced, including physical metal barriers as physical backups to the
forcefield barriers. Additionally, a supplementary brig has been
constructed (in addition to the secondary brig), outfitted with a few
maximum-security cells (with multiple redundancies to all security), and
a series of smaller cells for mass transport of prisoners in an emergency.
(Deck 5.)

The engineering and science labs have been optimized for analysis and
investigation, and the medical bay has been upgraded for superior
autopsy and medical analysis.

Deck 8 has been outfitted with a full courtroom and a secondary judicial
room, suitable for use for any judicial needs for any kid of inquiry,
board, or trial. In addition to high security measures, they have been
equipped for data display and with holoemitters. In addition, 1 of the
ship's holodecks is permanently reserved for judicial use.

Security for the ship's computer systems has been upgraded, and
databanks for judicial use are compartmented and separate from the
standard ship's computers. An additional set of Security Specialist
officers (10) have been added to the crew, specifically to handle the
transport, securing, and confining of prisoners.

The ship's standard complement has been pared down to 130 crewmembers
handling day-to-day operations of the ship. The members of the
Engineering, Science and Medical staffs are each qualified to handle
analysis in their areas of expertise. In addition, an additional set of
officers dedicated specifically for investigation has been assigned:
5 Engineers, 6 Science Officers, 3 Pathologists/Coroners, an
Investigative Psychologist, and a Forensic Psychologist. Additionally,
there are 6 officers from the JAG (Judge Advocate General) to handle
any type of investigation, inquiry or legal case required. This staff is
overseen by a Commodore (Rear Admiral, lower half) from the JAG.
Further, the ship is captained by another Commodore, ensuring 2 Flag
Officers are present to preside over any type of case, except a full
Court Martial. (In that event, they will proceed to the nearest convenient
Starbase or Starfleet Outpost so designated, and act as part of the panel
of flag officers required for such a trial.)

========
The ship's mission profile reads as follows:
""This ship will be assigned to perform investigations at all levels, and will be under the command of the JAG chain-of-command. It will be charged with the regular performance of inquests and filing of reports of same, with the convening of formal boards of inquiry with all aspects of the inquiry handled by the staff and crew, up to and including all aspects of any trial as needed. They will handle the full investigation into possible Court-Martials, and convene the board of inquiry that will recommend a Court-Martial trial be performed, or dismissed, as events warrant.

In the event a Court-Martial is deemed necessary or prudent, this ship will take into custody the personnel required to attend, and provide reasonable transport for officers present they are familiar with who are released to attend by reason of duty. The ship will then proceed to a designated Starbase, and a full Court-Martial will be held. This ship's personnel and capabilities will be sufficient to handle all aspects of the Court-Martial, and present it before the board sitting in judgement- including the providing of 2 flag officers to sit on that board. In the event an officer is sentenced to imprisonment, this ship will be capable of-and prepared to- transport them securely to their imprisonment facility."

If I'm allowed, I'd like to call it USS Athena. It sounds fitting to it's purpose. wink Minos or Justiniano are acceptable too, as well as Napoleon.
(I'm assuming you can figure out the reason for all of those names... just tell me if any of them is not clear enough...)

*checks* There's no record of a USS Athena, Minos, or Justiniano,
or Napoleon. So, they're all valid, and it's up to you.

Please explain the reason for this list, however. smile

Athena: Greek goddess. As she's the goddess of wisdom, she's usually related to law and justice.
Minos: One of the 3 judges in Hades who determines where the dead is going to spend eternity.
Justiniano: One of the Roman jurist. He had a part in the building of the codex.
Napoleon: The one who created the civil code that was based for all Latin countries law.

Napoleon's reputation in some places isn't that good-he's remembered for
a lot of things, and I've never heard it mentioned he was a maker of
civil code.
Justiniano doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Therefore, I recommend one of the other two. They're probably better
than the name I was thinking of, which was "Adjudicator".

I also think that this is is a ship that a successful television show could
actually be made around. Most of the ships we designed WORK, but
wouldn't necessarily be riveting television.

I was hoping to find online a quote from Napoleon's tumb that usually is well remembered in the countries following Latin Law... unfortunately, I can't seem to remember the quote and I know I have a pic of the text, but it's not at hand...

Anyway, I'll have to be happy with just a quote from Wikipedia:
Quote:
The Napoleonic Code, or Code Napoléon (originally called the Code civil des Français) was the French civil code, established under Napoléon I. It was drafted rapidly by a commission of four eminent jurists and entered into force on March 21, 1804. Even though the Napoleonic code was not the first legal code to be established in a European country with a civil legal system — it was preceded by the Codex Maximilianeus bavaricus civilis (Bavaria, 1756), the Allgemeines Landrecht (Prussia, 1792) and the West Galician Code, (Galicia, then part of Austria, 1797) — it is considered the first successful codification[citation needed] and strongly influenced the law of many other countries. The Code, with its stress on clearly written and accessible law, was a major step in establishing the rule of law. Historians have called it "one of the few documents which have influenced the whole world."

Let's go with Athena, then.

Considering how well the shows with a courtroom theme work, I say you're right. smile

Now that I think of it, I've heard of the Napoleonic Code,
but I don't think of it when I think of Napoleon.

So, is everything approved as-is?

And is the ship the Athena?
