Blackrose Kaire I will admit that I do enjoy some of his music,but I don't like manson himself,I think he comes off as arrogant,but once again,almost every single person in the music buisness is arrogant and self-absorbed.
Except Iron Maiden, who just want to make music, have a good time doing it and occasionally fly commercial air liners, whilst being an olympic level athlete.
s**t, they have something to be arrogant about and aren't.... compared to say... Trivium who have nothing to be arrogant about and are complete and utter tossers of no musical or cultural value at all. ^^ I think it must be a recent and American thing, because last I checked, it was still compulsory for all new British performers to do Never Mind the Buzzcocks before the 3rd album, and that show takes everyone down a peg or seventeen. ^^ |

The new direction he's taking because of it, is quite frankly dull and uninspired, when I heard heart shaped glasses the first time, I didn't even listen to it all the way, it bored me that much. Don't get me wrong I like Antichrist and Portrait, but it does seem without Trent holding his hand, Mazza can't produce anything beyond mediocre shock rock that might be of value, if Alice Cooper Rozz Williams didn't do it much better nearly 30 years before. Fixed. But yeah, I honestly don't know why some fans need to aggressively defend Manson (the same can be said with a lot of artists, really, but it seems that Manson is one of the top most-defended ones). To be honest it seems anyone that got popular post millennium, the fans of them are rabid, lets face it the average Maiden, Def Lep and Preist fan probably makes fun of the bands they like more then the people who don't like them. End of the day, its music, no need to take it seriously, because I guarantee you, those that do take it seriously are often the musicians that suck the most. As a side note, in my experience, MCR seems to be the most defended of all bands, especially the instant you say something bad about Gerard Way.
heh heh!...one of my friends almost sent one of there own friends to the hospital because she said something mean about Gerard...it was pretty funny to watch though!^^ |

On the first question- Manson's third album, "Mechanical Animals", was both applauded and criticized for channelling Bowie.
On the second statement, Bowie was never "shock rock", but he was shocking. Bowie was one of the first artists to break into the mainstream with real androgynous stylings, and his music has always garnered a certain amount of controversy (particularly early on) for allusions and symbollism of drug-use, sexual-acts, transexuality, and general social rebellion. Bowie was one of the most controversial popular artists of the 70's. |

On that note, Diamond Dogs was 1984 in musical form, and if that's not controversy, then what is?
Marilyn Manson has emulated the "androgynous gets attention" thing that David Bowie captained, along with a whole crew of New Wave bands (along with a certain horde of the Japanese who don't have any musical association with Bowie at all) whose vocalists sounded more like the Sisters of Mercy but are still considered in the same league as the Thin White Duke regardless.
I swear, Men Without Hats and the Psychedelic Furs... Bah.
On topic, I listen to Marilyn Manson. I don't really care about the social conventions that pertain to him or the nature of his personality, I just feel that there's something in there that I like.
Let's put it this way--I like Manson's music for the same reason I like Burzum, which was phrased best by Jan Axel Blomberg: "Somebody asked me what it takes to like black metal. I told them I like to think of it like an opera. If you listen to it normally, you won't get anything out of it, you have to listen for the right things to truly enjoy it."
