"Aw, come on," she scolded, shoving him lightly in the arm, "Gene's nice, I promise. I like you, so I'm sure she'll like you too." Or so Xiu hoped, anyways, but she figured it would take a little bit of nudging. She was a little worried that Gene would get a wrong first impression thanks to the fire demon's outward grumpiness, but she knew she'd be able to persuade her business partner.

"Are you sure?" Xiu blinked up at him when he stood and announced that he was going to leave, "You can stick around for a longer if you'd like. I mean, I gave you the cakes now, but I didn't mean to imply that you had to leave or anything." She had actually considered asking him if he wanted to stay for dinner, but the main thing that stopped her was how terribly awkward it would probably be for him to eat not only with her, but her uncle as well.
