Feeling More Dead Than Alive

Hot summer, a dry spell and no tornadoes. Humidity makes the summer feel ten to fifteen degrees hotter.

She climbed back into her car after he took the walkie talkie. Closing the roof mostly, to a tiny crack, so she would not have to run her AC and her front windows were barely cracked opened as well. "Yeah, and my name is Anya.", she said as she buckled up and put the walkie talkie into her lap. "Keep about a quarter of a mile behind me.", she added on and then drove down the hill not going over forty MPH. She knew the lights would draw attention if to close, so she hoped this would lessen any possible human attention to them. She said little to nothing as she listened to different CDs she had in her car.

When the sun was finally setting she slowed down towards the back highway, one side was blocked with cars and other was covered with dead bodies. "s**t, hey, we need to leave now. Stay back so I can back up. You aren't gonna get through with out moving half the cars in the county.", she radioed him. And started to back up with shaking hands as she felt sick. But some how she whipped the car around and hit few zombies that were charging at her car. Now she drove on the other side of the road and darted past his SUV. "Come on, we need to find a place to hold up. I don't wanna lead this things back to my house.", she explained to him. Thirty miles per an hour was still enough to knock anything that walked over. They were half way between the dealership and her house. But she saw a fire through the trees and slowed down. "Do you see that?", she asked him, as zombies seemed to stopped following them now.

“Alright the name's Austin…” He said in the walkie talkie. When she told him to stay about a quarter mile behind here he nodded and replied. “Understood…” He said then started up the SUV and fallowed after her. As they drove Austin finally noticed the sin was finally setting. ‘Dammit…the zombies will be really active now…!’ He thought with a growl. When he noticed her stop he stopped a bit before her. When she replied on the talkie about going through cars, he pulled off the scope on his crossbow and looked ahead. There was a wall of cars there; about 4 or 5 rows blocking his path. He could probably run over them seeing how big this thing is, but there is a chance he could get stuck and with all the noise from the crushing of the cars would attract zombies like moth to a flame. And they would linger around for days too. “Yeah alright…” He replied to Anya, then once she passed him he backed up into an alley way and took off after her. Not till he ran over a few zombies. He fallowed after her as she suggested finding a place to stay for the night. “How about we park somewhere and you move into here for the night. This thing’s a mobile fort, and as long as we don’t have an encounter with any big guys we should be fine.” He told her as he fallowed behind. He then noticed the fire as well. “Yeah…I see that…” He replied as he watched for a bit wondering what caused it.

Hot summer, storm is moving in now, heavy with rain.

She heard his suggestion and nodded,"Okay, let me think.", she said. "There is an old car wash near by. Should we camp there? I sense a storm moving in, and since lack of rain, it'll probably get violent.", she said. Of course this girl had a good sense with Mother nature and what would with could happen. A shiver ran through her and she glanced around.

Austin waited for her reply. When she suggested camping out at a car wash he nodded. “Sounds good to me.” He replied. He then listened to her when he said that a storm was coming and it may be violent. He looked up at the darkening sky and couldn’t see a cloud in the sky. He then shrugged to himself and said. “Whatever you say…Just lead the way to the car wash.” He told her.

She led him to the car was and saw no zombies or people around. Now she parked her car one of the stalls. "Just waiting on you.", she told him. And then closed all of her windows all the way. She then climbed out of the car after popping her trunk. Of course she had her flash light in hand. Still no zombies or people, aside from her and Austin. Once Austin joined her at her side, she handed him a couple of pillows and blankets. With out saying anything she joined him in his 'fortress'. Now she grabbed one of the two pillows with blanket from him. "So, who sleeps where?", she asked curiously.

Austin fallowed Anya to the car wash, and parked next to her and gave her some space to walk between the cars. He then shimmied himself between the two chair to the open area in the back of the SUV. He looked up and saw there was a big sunroof. The whole thing seemed to be a luxury tank with plenty of space. He went to the dash board to look for the button to press it. When he found it and pressed it the sun from slowly opened. Once it was mostly opened he popped his head out of it and looked in the direction of Anya He leaned against the roof boredly as he watched and waited on her. When she finally entered the SUV He ducked down back in and sat in on one of the back seats and looked at her. “You can choose to sleep where ever I’ll either be asleep in this chair or on the floor in front of it.” He told her.

She made her bed in the other the seat beside the one he pointed to. "I think it's best we stay close in case either of us hear something.", she said. He seemed a bit more mellowed out. Only to pull a few cereal bars out of the pillow, since it was in a pillow case. "There is probably some in yours too.", she told him. But she did not bother to open any of hers. Only put them back into her pillow case. Now she looked up at the sunroof and sighed, slowly the smell of rain grew closer with each five minutes or so.

When Anya made her bed next to him he took the pillow and blanket to the seat across from him that was behind the driver’s seat. “Hey you’re still in heat, you don’t have to that close to me. Besides we’re in a small area, we’ll hear something anyways…” He told her. He then watched her carefully as he sat in the chair. He noticed some bars come out of her pillow. When she told him there should be some in his as well he nodded. He then pulled out a few and started eating. It’d been about a whole day since he ate. After awhile he started to hear rain drops hit the top of the roof. “Guess you were right about it to rain.” He said as he looked at the sun roof.

Looking at him her nose wrinkled, it was a playful gesture instead of insulting. "Aren't you just the gentleman type?", she teased him. Only to nudge his leg with her foot, then took off her boots. Now she rubbed her feet, they were sore and tender from rubbing against metal bottoms for long as they did. She leaned into her seat and looked at the roof as it started to rain. "Hmmm, that sounds nice. And the openings here face North and South, so we don't have to worry about winds knocking us over.", she told him. Her body started to relax as the rain continued to fall. Now her eyes slipped shut with a small yet tired smile on her lips.

Austin huffed at her comment as she nudged hid leg with her foot. He looked out the window as the rain came down on her car. He wondered if she made sure to lock up tight everything. He then looked at her as she said something about the winds knocking them over. ‘As if this car would with winds like this…’ He thought to himself. He then noticed her slowly shut her eyes seeming to fall asleep. After awhile he noticed the blanket shifted down her arm. He quietly got up and recovered her with her blanket.

Her car was locked up when she had gotten out. Well she relaxed her body took a chance to make sure she got to sleep. She was to tired to put the blanket back up as her arms felt sore. But when it came back up a small smile was on her lips,"Mmm, thanks honey.", she muttered to him, sleepily. Her eyes were to tired to open but she did managed to find a bit of strength to wiggle the blanket around her now.

Austin was still up close to Anya when she said something. He looked at her with wide eyes and somewhat of a blush. He then jumped back in his seat from where he was, barely shaking the SUV with his light weight. ‘H-H-Honey!? Where the hell that come from!?’ He yelled in his head. It took him a moment to calm down and think about what just happen. “She just must be dreaming, and sleep talking…” He said then thought of something. ‘Or she could be one those desperate types who do everything they can to get married…’ He thought with a disturbed look. He then moved his bag and crossbow from the passenger’s side seat to the seat next to him as he climbed around and up in the passenger’s seat. He then looked on the dash boarded and found the lock down button and pressed it. There were heavy clanks in all the doors and the SUV seemed to lower to the ground. 'Guess it’s suppose to have people think the suspension is broken.’ He thought. Austin then wrapped himself in the blanket as he sat there in the chair looking out the window.

She heard him and rolled her eyes behind her eyelids. Hearing the locks click in place before feeling the SUV lower. Now she slept peacefully for an hour or two before waking up. She some how ended up on the floor. "Hmm?", she said as she slowly sat up. Looking around the memories came back only for her to nod. But she laid back down only to rub her eyes. Though after a moment she sighed and looked out of the windows. It was still raining and she saw lighting flash a bit, yet she saw no one or nothing, well not yet. At the next crack of lighting she swore she saw a person or zombie but slumped back down. Her mind was probably trying to get the better of her. But she now looked at Austin yet not wanting to wake him.

A few hours past after Austin fell asleep, and started to wake up. He looked out the window to see if it was still raining. It was and a bolt of lightning flashed outside and a figure of a human showed. Austin froze wondering what it was as he watched it with wide eyes. If it was a normal zombie then they should be fine…but if it was human, they could be in trouble. When the lightning flashed again the being was gone. Austin got up in fright and looked around. He looked out the window next to him and lightning flashed again and a rotten looking face was right in the window. The face looked all messed up and seemed to been carved off someone. Then the person started to pound on the window with bare hands. The person wouldn’t break through since there bullet proof windows. Nor could the person see through them cause they were tented windows as well. He then looked at Anya seeing she was awake. “Hey do you know if this town has zombie cult believers?” He asked as he looked at her waiting a reply.

She looked at him only to jump seeing the person. "Not that I'm aware of... It has had it's fair share of weirdos though.", she whispered. It was clear she was not a fully social person and town was in a weird ******** up way. "Heaven forbid if they get into my car.", she said. She had brought her weapons and one bag over. But not her other supplies like jumper cables, with food for if she broke down, or had to run through woods to get home.
