Six categories for six areas meant that Harrow blinked slowly and, as the teacher began to give her lecture, he rooted around in his bag for a different kind of pen: a range of colors, so that he could coordinate them comfortably to the subject matter. The act of taking notes was almost more important to him than the knowledge it would impart: tidy headers for each category, the information organized in neat bullet points with callout arrows to additional information. He added a quick, dumb drawing of the different kinds of candy as she displayed them and, as she stopped speaking, he peered down at his work in a critical -- but faintly pleased -- sort of way.

A masterpiece, really. And should anyone come in late, or should anyone have drifted off while she spoke, Harrow's notes would be a treasure in that regard as well. After all, they hopefully contained everything they needed to know.

He looked up again, and around the room, clicking caps back onto all his pens but the Independence Day color as another student asked a question.

Quote:
If anyone does come in late, Harrow'd almost definitely share his notes to fill you in...

"Aye." Marosa gave her a sheepish grin, catching the last part of the lecture about Christmastown. He snorted, shaking his head. "Oi was a stupid boil back then, th' first time oi visited Christmastown." He left out the part about Selene. That did not need to be brought up ever again.

The faerie gave her a sly grin, however, answering her question before she asked. "Oi stripped and hugged a dragon."

Well, it couldn't be said that Olivia was ever prepared for classes even after this long and being in her second year. She was devoid of any sort of writing instruments and made no move to acquire any. Instead, she just watched as Miss Selene drew on the chalkboard - which looked really fun! - and began explaining each of the different lands.

Her eyes glowed a little brighter at each one mentioned that she actually knew about, which was about half of them, and well things made a little more sense with a few of the others. Like Scarentines and where that came from - and maybe a little more sense with the whole practice of it. Oh. But Thanksgiving she knew about too, she went there... kind of and Christmas came to visit, did they not? The others seemed just as interesting, she had to admit. (Did the Horsemen have a door? She couldn't remember, though they weren't really a holiday.. were they). As much as she paid attention. It was only natural for her to zone out a little bit and let her attention wander elsewhere, like to other patrons of the class.

Not a whole lot of creeple she already knew but some familiar faces at least, some she hadn't seen in a very long while. But Olivia didn't linger on anyone in particular this time, just sort of bounced from student to student before she would gaze back to the front of the room and continue to observe as Miss Selene went on with her lecture.

She remained quiet even at the end of it. No questions from her.

- - - - - -

Meanwhile, Maple ever prepared even as nervous as she always was, had her notebook and pensnake as soon as Miss Selene mentioned that notes needed to be taken. She made a little noise as she fumbled into her bag and pulled her supplies out.

Each new door and world received their own page, information written down as quickly as she could muster with Miss Selenes little comments added here and there along with her own jotted down here and there from what she could remember encountering - mostly with Scarentines and Christmas, the only ones she was really familiar with.

The young witch was much too busy paying attention to the lecture to engage in conversation, it seemed. And much too mousy to really ask a question, she couldn't think of any off the top of her head. Though, she hoped Miss Selene wasn't actually going to take them through all the doors. She wasn't sure how well her nerves could handle it.

Zar did not take his eyes off of Sin, even as Barth addressed him. "She is not like me." he said. She was completely content in what she was by the look of things, with the same elegant confidence his mother possessed. He felt rather ridiculous in comparison, ungainly and only just coming into his own. He drew his wings a little closer about himself.

When he was addressed by TG he paused and squinted slightly at the smaller demon, eyes slitted a little more than usual. He was always aiming far outside his league, and sometimes, mysteriously even managed to get somewhere with it. He gave them both a wave. "Indeed. His buddy. Pleasure to meet you ma'am. I'm Zar."

He was about to come over when before he could, the class began, Selene laying out the information for them. He had brought two books with him, and wrote down what she had to say word for word in duplicate, listening intently, before he pushed one subtly over to Barth.

For a moment Sin was mildly surprised by TG's continued flirtation and then it hit her, she was rarely seen in public with Rosc. She went to most school functions alone due to her boilfriends aversion to crowds. Other than a few of the demons on the same floor as her in the demon dorms no one would really know that Sin was already dating a boil. Coupled with her attitude and looks it was hardly surprising for everyone to think she was a lone succubus looking for love...or lust.

"I doubt my boilfriend would see it as fun."

There she'd set the record straight and then he mentioned his friend Zar and she found herself intrigued all over again. She disliked not knowing all her fellow demons, but she was just trying to keep her head above water and didn't have time to organize more huge parties and soirees.

She might have asked TG more about Zar but then the demon was introducing himself. She held her hand out and smiled incredibly pleased to meet him.

"Sin Err, a pleasure to meet you Zar."

An incubus, now that was nice, she hoped she would get a chance to know him better. He sounded polished and knew Barth and TG which spoke well of his ability to form connections with the right sort.

A few more students entered and Professor Selene was trying to get the attention of the class. She turned in her seat to face the teacher who spoke so softly that Sin leaned forward slightly.

Lecture format, thank Jack! Sin leaned over to pull out her notebook and pink pen her dress had a moment of strain before she straightened. She frowned at the idea of an activity, but it was better than a field trip. Really anything was better than a field trip. She made a quick note about the homework in the corner of her notes and then started to write as Selene started to lecture.

She wrote carefully with neat bullet points frowning at Selene's little joke about holidays keeping to themselves. Valentines day, ugh, Sin remembered the cupids and she had no desire to ever meet such creatures again. She wondered what warped sense of love humans felt to have such a place be considered enjoyable. When she thought of love it was pumpkins and bloody hearts, a blending of fears and...other delightful things. She almost blushed but quickly refocused on the professor and hurried to keep her notes caught up.

Gnomes called Leprechauns and dressed in green collecting gold, sounded like the scareling greed demons she used to play with. She moved on to Easter, oh that was what the chocolate bunnies were about. She cringed at how fondly Professor Selene spoke of the humans, Sin did not view them in sch a positive light. Bunnies, Chicks, Eggs, she wrote and continued to ignore the chocolate rabbit on her desk, she didn't want to ingest anything from anywhere but Halloween.

Independence Day, the more Selene explained it the less Sin liked it. She didn't see why the humans needed protection or freedom, and the idea that they had to be so tender with them irritated her. She bet the hunters didn't celebrate independence day, the ingrates. She did like the idea of the world though, proud and fierce sounded very demonic and humans were often frightened by loud explosions.

Thanksgiving came next and Sin scowled openly at being told how thankful they should all be to the humans for their existence. She tried to continue to take notes, pilgrims, but she was just not enjoying Selene's affection for humans.

Christmas was last but certainly not least, Sin jotted down her notes and glanced at the professor wondering if she'd ever been to ChristmasTown. Sin was pretty sure that if the professor had suffered molestation by drunken fir trees and jolly toys with JOY everywhere her tune would change.

When Selene finished and opened the class to questions Sin slowly raised her hand.

"Professor? Is it safe for us to eat the food from the other worlds?"

She knew that JOY and FEAR didn't mix well but perhaps LUCK or LOVE worked better with FEAR and didn't cause any adverse reactions.

The horseman listened attentively enough at first, but when it became clear that this simpering little snake was quite enamored with the humans who'd created her, Mmur began to feel a bit self-conscious, sinking in his seat until he could barely see her over the tops of the closest students' heads. He wasn't really one to care much about the complete obliteration of the squishy mortal race, but praising them for their brilliance did make him a little queasy.

His hand shot in the air even as he remained mostly hidden.

"What about the new year? Don't the humans love all that 'Why Toucay?' nonsense enough to warrant a whole new town?"

Something about the professor's soft voice made it almost impossible to hear all the way in the back, though throughout the lecture Kane certainly tried to focus and take notes as the professor went on about the various doors and the corresponding towns and holidays. No use being in school if he didn't do at least that much -- pay attention, that is -- not that he enjoyed it either. Nor did he really care for how she seemed so fascinated and rather fond of humans, but that was just him. Kane was never fond of the unfamiliar.

The various baskets she presented caught his eye and, though her voice was rather difficult to hear (she needed to learn to project...) the boil managed well enough and his notes came out okay-ish. Thankfully no question besides, "Can you please repeat all of that?" came to mind, and Kane certainly had no plans to ask that.

Instead he leaned back against the back of his chari again, tapping his desk and glaring at the bunny, on his table, that had taken to trying to mend the bite mark he'd inflicted minutes before the lecture started. He would have made a snarky remark at the stupid chocolate thing, but he chose to just curl his lip before turning his attention to the questions other students were bringing up. Pen in hand, he blinked at the professor and got ready to jot down whatever additional notes would be given in reply.

Kane might lend his notes to someone who comes in late; just assume that he might also come back to you for something to return the favor later on..

Glad that Carlos had decided to come in Camilla smiles happily but she and her bunny lean away a bit as he nawed one of his bunnies ears off fortunatly Professor Selene was starting her class now but that presented a new issue "Lecture? Notes? Oh dear..." why hadn't she thought to at least bring paper and a pencil!

Looking around she finally spied a small black covered notebook and pencil in one of the other desks so she quickly nabs it and opens it luckily it looked like some other student had simply forgotten it it was clean and almost new "phew..." she says making a mental note to carry around a backpack

With paper and pencil in hand Camilla perks her ears forwards so she could hear Professor Selene then begins writing down everything she talked about and putting in every drawing she saw plus a few of her own however she stops briefly as she notices Carlos wasn't happy to be in class 'Oh dear... maybe he hadn't wanted to actually attend the class...' she thinks and frowns when he finally asked if there would be any tea her frown deepened "I don't think so..." she whispers but then smiles as she gets a idea "I do plan on having holiday themed Tea Parties though! Your definatly invited!" she whispers excitedly then returns to taking notes making sure she drew pictures of all the decorations

"We were all quite naive," she assured him, smile taking on a momentarily strained appearance before smoothing into lovely line once again.

She blinked though, when he mentioned stripping down to hug a dragon, and dark brows rose to disappear under thick bangs. "Why ever did you do that?"

Even though he knew the world was coming, Cearney couldn't help his low growl when she mentioned the world of St. Patrick's Day.

Mockeries of true leprechaun, they were!

In his notebook, it should be noted that Cearney had written Leprachauns are stupid, Leprechauns rule! deciding that the one letter difference in their names was worth enforcing. He also wasn't a tiny gnome. He was small, he wouldn't deny that, considering he had to sit in front of the room to even see what was going on around all these tall students, but he certainly was no idiotic gnome.

He noticed she spent comparatively little time on the loser world of St. Losersville (okay perhaps that was a little too immature, he could do better than that for an insult for sure) and there was some victory taken in that.

Still, either way, he couldn't have her staining all leprechaun as LUCK gnomes. Even if they were leprachaun.

Cearney cleared his throat. "Oy, Professor Selene!" When he was certain he had her attention, he continued on, "I'm a leprechaun! Not the eejit Luck ones in St. Patrick's World or whatever--I'm a true Fear leprechaun and a fey, not a gnome."

Wait, he was supposed to be asking a question. Question... question ... aha. "I was wondering if there were any other racial similarities that you knew of between different realms?"

====================

Ignatius didn't bother writing anything down that Selene said.

He learned better by listening, anyway. His mind was too flighty for actually writing down anything he was told--he usually ended up with doodles of dragons fighting other dragons or lightning striking down onto the towers of his hometown or, ooh, that would be a fun thing to draw, perhaps he should get out one of his pens--

Focus. Ignatius.

He spent a lot of his "Focusing" time trying to truly focus, almost in a comical way really considering he squinted his eyes and stared forward as if that helped his concentration.

For him, it did. It kind of turned the whole thing into a bit of a game, following her motions closely and listening to what she said like he was a Boogeyman conducting a Very Important Interview of a Very Important Creepson.

All these worlds sounded very fascinating, especially the Independence Day world. That place sounded badass. Going there just to feel high and mighty and free with fireworks? When could he go? Halloween only felt like that all around every once in a few months at the most ideal! A place that felt like that every day honestly felt like a dream come true--of course, he had never been there, and she mentioned there wasn't much need to go to the other worlds, but the doors were there...

"Professor Selene!" called out Ignatius, actually focusing long enough to ask a question, "Are there any creeple that do regularly visit the other worlds? Like, is there a job where creeple can do that?"

If so, he wanted it.

(For now anyway.)

Nio Love
Two (obnoxious) questions <3

====================

Serafina was ever-diligent in her note-taking and listening, fascinated by what she was being told about the other worlds.

Though she did have to take some time to wonder to herself--why were so many of the worlds populated by different types of gnomes? Elf gnomes, leprachaun gnomes, freedom gnomes... where did all these gnomes come from? Were the gnomes what started it all, since they were the commonality--?

Serafina shuttered.

That was a terrifying thought and she would never let herself think anything of the sort ever again.

She hated gnomes.

Hands began to raise in the air! This was Selene's absolute favorite part of class, and it was visible how happy she was by her beaming smile and excited expression. "Ah, yes, good question!" She took the first quickly, calling on the boil asking about Independence Day. "In fact they are not, they are mostly humanoid in stature, but they come in all shapes and sizes, just like us, though less fearsome! And there are a few creatures who take the shape of bright, glowing stars. Much like our minipets, I would say. Wonderful question, just wonderful! Who is next?"

Beejoux

A lovely young lady politely asked about the safety of food from other worlds, which was a very important question considering all she'd brought to the class. "Well done! Thank you for asking, and the answer is quite interesting! You will find that food from other worlds can be dangerous at times, and you should never eat it while you are there. Now you might ask, Ms. Selene, you have brought us that same food you've just claimed is dangerous! Haha, but my darlings, of course I have tempered these treats with time, and that is the key! These treats are quite well saturated with fear, and treated so that they're safe for Halloween consumption. It's the same process that our beloved Trick or Treaters use when collecting candy from the human world and bringing it to us! Isn't that splendid, even more things to learn! Thank you for that question!"

Roxy_roxanna2

A clever horseman asked a very intelligent question, and Selene gasped, nodding her head. "Now there, there is one of the most difficult complications of the Holiday Worlds that has been debated over many, many centuries. You see, New Years is in fact celebrated much like the other Holidays, and yet, you can see that no world was created from this. Why would that be? Our cleverest human researchers have hypothesized that this is because New Years does not create an abundance of emotion that is not shared in another world. Several analyses of the excitement that arises from Independence Day, for example, have matched the same levels of emotion that the human world creates on New Years. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that Independence Day has consumed the essence of New Years within - this is further proved by the use of fireworks and loud excitement on both days in the human world. Ah, but this is not the only theory under scrutinization, though it is the most researched and respected. I personally enjoy the theory that Easter was the Holiday World that consumes all that New Years produces. After all, they're both widely focused on new beginnings, and hope - are they not? What a fantastic topic to do a research paper on, I hope to see someone tackle it further as extra credit for this class! Thank you for such a delightful chance to further enlighten these young minds!"

Smerdle

Selene was remarkably unprepared for an actual leprechaun in her class. She opened her mouth, and then closed it, and repeated this process four more times before her tiny voice squeaked out. "Yes! Well! A pleasure to meet you, and what a rare delight! But yes, you are most certainly different from the leprachauns of St. Patricks Town, as you were made from Fear - by either someone's fear of .. leprechauns .. (Selene found that one hard to swallow, she had never seen the movies that launched a thousand tiny green nightmares) - or a pumpkin, of course. The leprachauns of St. Patrick's World are not made of Fear at all, and thus are a completely different species despite all of the aesthetic similarities. Again, such a pleasure to have you in this particular class, thank you for coming!" The question made her tap her lips with her fingers as she tried to recall other examples. "Well! Off the top of my head I can recall that Halloween Town has a form of rabbit, but they are were-rabbits and they are very fearsome, of course! Nothing like the cute fuzzy white beasts from Easter Town. Yes, you can find similarities spread across the worlds - but it is what makes us that defines us. Our world is populated solely by beings that are created from Fear. If you're not frightening, you're not contributing to your core!"

These were such good questions, Selene was filled with great content for imparting so much knowledge on her little scarelings. Another student piped up, and she turned to address it. "There are, in fact! Why, the researchers in our scientific and academic societies are a perfect example of an occupation that delves into the other worlds - funded off grants that are usually sanctioned by our government, of course! That is where we get all of this lovely information from, and are then able to pass it on to you. Isn't education wonderful?"

Camilla might have been right in her assumption that Carlos didn't actually want to attend classes but this was a school. Really the boil should go. It was more of a matter of motivating him.

"Tea party?" his head lifted up ears perking. "Carlos wants to go." He would love to enjoy a tea party with things and stuff. Would there be more mice? Maybe there would be a chair or a dresser he could cozy up onto.

Taika laughed a little and nodded. "It would be pretty neat if they were, right?" She smiled happily and pulled her hat off, setting it at her feet. "So I take it you're new, too?" It was nice to meet someone else who was new, and she hoped this girl was as friendly as she seemed. "I'm Taika," she said and held her hand out to the other girl.

A few moments later, the professor started class. Wow she was kinda short...and really quiet. Taika was super glad she'd picked a seat at the front of the class. She didn't want to miss anything! Right! Pen and notebook...she was glad she'd tucked a small notebook and pencil in her hat before leaving her room, and picked it up to pluck the necessities out of a little pocket her mom had sewn into the hat. She grinned and eagerly wrote down everything she could.

Valentine's day didn't seem so bad, especially since they had their own version here. "Professor Selene, do humans actually give each other real hearts for Valentine's day? Or just the candy version?" She wasn't sure which she thought was more romantic. Because having a boil give you his actual heart was a pretty big deal, right? And candy hearts could be eaten (not that real hearts couldn't be eaten, but y'know) so it was...less romantic. Right? Eh. It sounded kind of dumb to her that the arrows didn't actually pierce the skin. If they were celebrating the color red, why wouldn't they want to spill blood, too?

St. Patrick's day didn't have much of an impact on her. It didn't seem to have much point, really, except to have another thing to celebrate. Humans liked to celebrate things a lot, didn't they? She snorted lightly when Professor Selene mentioned the chocolate bunny on their desks. Riiight. She eyed the critter again, debating taking another shot at eating it.

Yeah, no, probably not a good idea. Leaning her cheek in one hand, she continued to take notes on the rest of the holiday doors, including the things that other students asked her. Independence day sounded like fun, especially those Pop Rock candies... She wondered if the professor would let them try the candies and things she'd brought to symbolize each holiday.

Thanksgiving was much more interesting to her. "Professor Selene, what do the Pilgrims do to the turkeys?" she asked curiously. The professor had glossed over that and she just couldn't help her curiousity.

The mention of homework made Mimsy sorely disappointed that she would not have the opportunity to turn hers in, but she supposed that she could do it on her own, just for fun. She listened very carefully, eyes as bright as a golem's eyes could be, and had already begun to take notes with clear diligence, even before they were instructed to.

She didn't intend to stop taking notes, now that she'd started, but their instructor told an outstandingly hilarious joke regarding why they were only studying six of the seven doors today.

The cackling that came from the golem's mouth was entirely unattractive and bordered obnoxious, but it was very clear that the joke was appreciated, at least. Thankfully, she settled down to begin taking notes again, and not a moment too soon, considering the first topic.

Why could Valentine's Day not actually be as she described? That sounded absolutely perfect! It was fairly common for her to find Halloween more appealing, but this was a previously untouched level of excellence. Thrilled, she kept listening - then sort of wished she hadn't.

'Franklin found himself under severe prejudice, since he had no working heart - the humans threatened him with pitchforks and red, red fire until he cease and desisted.'

Ah. Yes.

That sounded about right.

Spirits effectively dampened, she lowered her head and hunched over her notes, in case being very visibly affected by the story of the unfortunate Mr. Stein would be out of place here.

"Ms. Selene? If I may...how does Valentine's celebrate the 'living, beating hearts' that you mentioned? Is it the celebration of the concept of the heart, or do they celebrate it with some sort of specific methodology? Are hearts useful there? More useful than they would be to us, or to humans? Or are they simply appreciated to a higher degree? Was Mr. Stein ever able to obtain a functional heart of his own?"

For seemingly no reason, the jabberwock sat straight up in 'his' desk, as if a potentially life changing epiphany had just occurred. The desk moved along with the golem, scraping against the floor.

"Do they create love in their world?"

"Humans give each other boxes shaped like hearts, and cards shaped like hearts, and candy shaped like hearts.. but sadly they do not actually give each other hearts, because that would mean someone would have died. They do put a lot of importance into the human heart however! Good question!"

She thought the first question was excellent, but when the ghoul tried to prod her about the fate of turkeys in Thanksgiving Town, Selene just laughed nervously and waved her hands as if to brush the topic off. "Well, you know, food chain, and all that, ah, circle of life, so on, so forth, did you see the turkeys I hand made?? They have candy corn feathers!" She held out one, showing it off to further distract from the topic.

Strawberri Stardust

Several very interesting - and thankfully distracting - questions came from another student, who'd enjoyed her joke earlier and therefore received a very fond smile. She quickly put the turkey down to address his queries. "Valentine's Town celebrates the heart with visual accompaniments. The candy, the chocolate, the boxes, the cards, all shaped like hearts to signify just how important that organ is. And as I said before, they celebrate it as a living, beating entity - by keeping it safely tucked away inside their bodies! Safety first, I always say!"

The jabberwocky's questions had Selene humming with thought, as she pieced her thoughts together. "I would not say the hearts are more useful there, than in the human world. However, I would say they are not as useful here - since many of us can go our entire lives without a working heart, and truly we are doing just fine! Mr. Stein, for example, was not interested in starting his heart up again - or obtaining a new one. He lived a very happy, functional life without the use of that organ, and he was succeeded by three pumpkin-born kin and four created-kin before he finally allowed his Fear core to fade. What a mighty man he was. Sixteen foot tall, they say! I never met him myself, but oh, I can only imagine.."

She'd gone right off the rails of the topic, into daydreaming about meeting a literary scholar. The last question pulled her back from her haze, and she shook her head.

"Oh, no, no my dear. Humans create love. Just as humans create Fear. Valentine's Town merely harvests that love and uses it to create their world and the life within it!"
