That is so true my dear. Thank you for keeping me here heart
PostPosted: Mon Feb 24, 2014 4:46 pm
After reading all that, I have to say, I am working through leaving at this point, but I dunno that its really what I want, ya know?

Let me preface this by saying that I was around when this guild first started. I stopped checking after the big shift in crew.
Nothing against current crew [you guys da best] just I wasn't sure what was going on and being already frustrated with the site made me leave stop participating.
I check back with Gaia once every couple of weeks, to change my avi up or shift things between mules, and to watch the SF and marketplace burn. ;A;

The gold generators are no longer shocking. The lack of events makes me shake my head. When Kenny left, I had every intention to follow him out, but when I looked at my inventory, I couldn't. Not because "o i culd make much monie!"
But because it was like looking through an old photo album. I've been here for so long that dropping everything and jumping ship is hard.
I feel that this is a losing battle, but to see you guys fight at all makes me so...I dunno, proud? The fact that so many in this guild try so hard, and keep the community strong makes me happy.
But when I log in and see I have 10+ announcements on nothing but gold generators, when I go to SF and see that people are still unhappy yet Gaia stays silent, when I go to the marketplace and see Monthlies being sold for 10m, when I see that all of my friends have gone [even my sister stopped coming to the site when everything hit the fan]. I just don't know how you guys do it.

So this may seem a little weird and off topic, but I feel that I should thank you guys, for having the strength to struggle when so many of us have lost the will.

Yeah, I guess it is kinda my own fault to become so obsessed with the items, I honestly could never understand what it is about these pixels that makes me want to own them the difficult way. I mean, I can still make a tektek? =u=; Oh well. I guess I will have to turn to the user run stuff around here now that gaia practically only focuses on sales...

Weeeellll, since you ask, I am an art person, I like artsy events. But more than that I like games! Like contests and just fun games, hey there could even be drawing games! And contests! And maybe something that doesn't focus on avatars, because there already are plenty of avatar drawing contests... =u=; And maybe other contests too. It would be fun to see if one could mix it up, for example having both a raffle and a drawing contest that both even each other out. Say, the drawing contest could be an adoptable OC kinda thingy contest, and the winner of the raffle could win that adoptable, while the raffle could cost something to join and the art contest winner could win whatever that cost was? ouo Oh my that sounds complicated. And that was just with two examples. e.e I think it would be fun to create events that don't focus so much on items and those things, because there already is so much focus on these things. But it is kinda difficult to get done, do you think it could be possible? There could also be other games like create something together. I can't quite think of anything right now, but I am sure there's more one could come up with. >u>

Firstly,

THANK YOU for recapping all the recent swirl of activity these past two weeks. It's a big job to keep tabs on everything, well done 3nodding

Secondly, I would echo the sentiment of KaiOfThePie:

Quote:
I think that it should be open to people who've been on here for 10+ years. -_- We can really see where Gaia's loyalty lies.

I've been a member of Gaia since '06 and I've never left or taken a break and come back after an extended absence like many of us who have been members for more than 5 years.

I'd like to see more of the "accolades" from Gaia for supporting them unfailingly for so long and making the choice to stay active and support them across multiple channels.

[Zol_the_Grim_Reaper]

My sister used to be the biggest fan of Gaia but she was under 13 so my mom didn't want her to join but she would take chalk and advertise for gaiaonline.com on the sidewalks and pieces of wood. Back when Gaia had it's outreach thing my little sister wanted to submit her chalked out work to that contest so much.
Now that she's older and her friends have migrated away from Gaia she is rarely ever on and hardly remembers there is anyone she knows still here.

In addition to the incredible idea Gaia was, having both my little sister and my mother on Gaia with me has been instrumental in all our lives in so many crucial ways.
It's such a shame that Gaia can no longer understands/recognized who it was when all these things happened in our lives.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that little bit of your story smile

Great discussion everyone.

Hey, you don't have to jump ship just yet, standing with one foot in both ships is okay you know. emotion_yatta But I do see what you mean. There should be an option to turn off all announcements regarding anything cash/ real money related. Like how you can turn off those dev notices if you find them annoying, though now it's almost as if those are the actual announcements and the announcements are just ads.

I wonder if a Change dot org petition would work to force them to listen to us. o.o

Go to Change.org & type in the search bar "Gaia Online". There are already a ton of petitions there.

I edited my original post. There's only 3. o.o

The problem with change.org petitions is getting them known & getting them filled out properly.
There's a section that asks for the e-mail address of the person that you are attempting to petition, who, in this case, would likely be the CEO of Gaia. Every time there's a new signature on the petition, they get an e-mail about it, as well as that person's personalized response. It's not enough to get just 30 signatures on those, you'll need more like 1000 to get the message across. Getting that many people to give a website their personal info can be quite the task, & getting people that aren't invested in Gaia (like it's users are) to sign it would be even harder, if you want to get more signatures than just that of Gaia's users.
Even some of the more well-known petitions here on Gaia have a hard time getting up to 1000 signatures, so you'd have to find a way to get people that don't use Gaia invested in the petition.

shoot! you guys are giving me ideas gonk

All we would have to do is provide our personal email addresses and provide an email of the person to receive the petition? usertalk@gaiaonline.com razz

I'm not afraid of getting banned for signing one. I wouldn't be breaking any ToS and last I heard petitions are a right.

Have you ever signed a petition at Change.org? They don't just require an e-mail address, they require a physical address & legal name as well.
If you feel so inclined to make a petition, you really only need to update it once a year for the petition to stay running, or you can update it as often as this ATG gets updated. Anyone who signs it gets e-mail notifications about updates, though, not forum feedback like here, so it would be super important to ensure that updates are 100% accurate.
But like I said, the hard part will be getting the word out so people will sign it. It's hard enough to get people HERE to sign a petition, & the requirements for signing a petition here are responding "I sign" in a thread.
You'd have to find some way to get people who aren't Gaia users upset enough to sign it, if you really want it to make a difference.

++ So an art contest for the artists, with the winning artists art being the prize for the raffle. Just have to think what the prize for the artist would be. ++

the anniversary gift was bullshit.

"here, let's throw together a depressing halo to give to our wonderful users instead of working on an actual decent, anniversary-worthy item."

that's what i got from the item. i am so insulted.

that said, the gold shop updates are no where near as frequent as they should be. not the mention, compared to the cash shop items, the gold shop items are very low quality and tbh they're getting uglier and uglier.

neutral

you got an anniversary gift from gaia? Wow, I didn't get anything. But it sounds like I didn't miss out on anything special. It seems to me with as much as people have to spend in GC shop that Gaia would give a better gift to it's supporters.

Yes! But that was only one suggestion! >u< There can be other contests too, like a chess championship or something! biggrin I heard there was a site where you can play games like that with other people, I am not sure how it works though. But that could be fun. Hmmm... More like activity book games? Those are also possible. Well, everything doesn't have to be a contest, but it always helps when playing games to know you might win something. >u>

But hmm... What could be a suitable prize for the artist of one were to host such a game? =u=; These kinda things are easier in real life where one has other things to give than pixels. Hmmmmmm!!!! Nope, I need help on this one, can't think of anything.

I'm upset, I liked Uncle Kenny. sad

Anyway, as for the inflation I think I've officially decided to get over it and be happy about not being able to buy anything anymore. This is beyond fixing and the inflation is beyond what my wallet can give me. So I've just come to accept this.

It isn't too late for other things though. It's not too late to stop increasing the inflation for the users with large wallets and it isn't too late to fix the other site issues.
