Calder loved basket-making, especially when it was practice for keeping pumpkins in and not his mother's fish-head stew ingredients. This was by far more romantic.

To Barth's basket, he touched the boil's hand and squeezed it. "It's great. I could already see a cute little demon popping out of it." Regardless of Barth's own hesitation on demon scarlings, Calder did want a mix. He really didn't get a chance to see demon scarlings, but he imagined their cute little nub horns would just be adorable!!

At Zar's, he beamed. "Ohhhh. It's so pretty!" He told Zar, looking down at it. Regardless of it's functionality, to Calder, it was still a scarling basket. That in itself made it adorable.

When Zar only continued to curl up, Calder drowned, and glanced at Barth when he cleared his throat. "Oh, well, like she said, practice. My kind makes baskets for everything. Sewing supplies. Eels. Blankets. I learned when I was a itty bitty colt. You can't really have chests or boxes in a river. It swells and rots." He also touched his basket to pick it up. "They're....kinda expensive too when..." Well, unlike the two demons beside him, his family was very poor, and they bartered what they could and lived off of farming and hunting. Even their land wasn't the best and small compared to the other herds due to his clans distaste for his dad.

He went to the river and held his basket, looking at the water lapping the shore and then down the river where Barth's basket was heading. Swallowing hard, he set his basket down and whispered to it. "Do good for daddy." He touched the lid gently and then nudged it out to float down."

His ears were back and his tail dropped when he saw Barth's basket disintegrated in the water, the tendrils sinking into the water. Frowning and brow creased with concern, he looked over at his own basket as it bobbed in the water. Then, the mud started to fall off. The Reeds started to unwind, and the basket started to lean to one side. Tilting, it started to flood with water, and in a matter of seconds, it unwound and sank into the water, the lid floating a bit more before following suit.

And Calder just stood there long after it was gone. Slowly, head down, he sat back on the blanket, brought his knees up, and set his head down, covering his face with his arms.

After a few moments, his shoulders started to shake, before Calder threw his head back and broke into full sobs. "Ma---mah scarlin DIED!!!!"

Zar's basket was doomed before he even started, he knew it was going to fail. Failure in his life was a certainty, not a possibility. Watching Barth's basket sink and fail didn't make him feel better, if anything it made him feel worse, he couldn't even make up for the failings of someone else.

Calder's basket sinking was just plain tragic, it was all the boil seemed to want and it had gone downhill just the same as the others.

When his sunk with the other two, he wasn't surprised, just sat down with his wings around him grimly.

Baskets gathered from the water's edge, the weapons master looked off into the sky a bit absent minded. "Oh yes!" She jumped up. "The protector of conquest joined us this day to judge the skills of the clans. Just bring your basket up to him and he'll let you know how you did. Once you've done that well..." She shrugged. "I can answer questions I suppose. Or you can leave. I think most of you did rather well."

Quote:
Invi's judgement: Roll 1d20 to see how the heir of conquest feels about your efforts.
1,20: He nods slowly
2-19: He looks at you with shame

Quote:
CLASS IS OVER! Once Invi has judged please post minis SN and all your final results. You can stay and ask Thera questions, or just leave.

CONGRATS ON YOUR BASKETS THOUGH!

Any who's basket survived gets +1 RP point
Add a +1 RP point if you rolled and RP'd each stage.

(Aka max rp points you could have gotten is +4, and as a reminder you need 800 words for the basic +2 GM Class points to count!)

If you want to roll/finish rolling you are free to do so! The only thing you cannot do is join the class for obvious reasons.

Staring at the spot where his basket had last been seen before it had met its watery end, Mmur listened to Thera in silence, his expression shifting from mere disappointment to utter disbelief. The mare had lost her mind. He hadn't done well at all. His basket was gone. And now the Conquest protector was here. Great.

Mmur quickly held out his empty hands as he paraded past Invictus and tried to look proud of the nothing he held. Maybe if he pretended hard enough, everyone else might believe he was holding something too. The other horseman's face didn't seem to change all that much in the handful of seconds Mmur was in a position to see it, and then the soldier was off, moving away from the scarelings and his kinsmen in record time. The entirety of his basket weaving experience had been a colossal disaster, and the sooner he could get on with his life, the happier he'd be.

Threads of dark, coiling thorns discreetly rescued the collapsed basket from the water.

The pumpkin had sunk into the water below, but the basket itself was not...beyond repair.

As the thorns coiled at his feet, then withered into the ground, Barth slowly bent to catch the silk between his lengthy claws.

Calder was having a minor meltdown, and Zar seemed to be having a similar episode (thought not as overtly), and this whole class had just been trouble when all he had really wanted to do was avoid that very thing.

Outdated and Sentimental was his assessment of the baskets on the whole, but maybe the same could be said of certain races who were still living culturally in 200 BC (not that he would say that out loud). There was, at least, some meditative value in the process.

He presented his basket for evaluation, and recieved a nod- but he was not entirely surprised by this. His basket's design was more complimentary with art whose goal was a state of mind rather than a product, and therefore an aesthetic familiar to Conquest (if not War).

Consoling Calder and Zar was going to be a much more difficult task.

And Barth's feelings on difficult tasks, at least, were consistent.

Basket nodded at, he made an attempt at slinking off. They'd...sort themselves out, eventually. Time heals all wounds, etc.

Zar carried his basket over despite knowing the result. The look he got from the already disliked horseman was expected completely.

He didn't look at either Barth or Calder as he briskly made his exit, head hung low.
