England's match today was a pretty dull event to be honest, there was just to incidents that made it the slightest bit interesting. Those where Tenorio's chance which Ashley Cole covered very well. Robinson wasn't convincing in this match, he was hestitant and didn't look solid. The second event was, of course Beckham's beautiful goal from a set piece 25 yards out. It was inch perfect!
Now the Argies V Mexico was something completely different, so was the Holland v portugal match but for very different reasons....
AvM was a great match with excellent football. The Mexicans scored first but the argies responded soon after that through Crespo forcing a Mexican defender to hit the ball into his own goal. It stayed like the the rest of the 90 but the game itself was played at the same intense level as it was in the first 10 mins. The Mexicans made most of the chances throughout the game however the Agries held them back and the game went to extra time and so with it Mexico's hopes of advancement in the tournament, why? Because they were just tired out after the 90. On the 98th minute Maxi Rodriguez finished the Mexicans off with a goal that mirrored Joe Cole's against Sweden. It was a cracker goal to top off a cracker match.
Now... Portugal V Holland. The match was marred with Portugese aggravation and rubbish refereeing. 16 yellow cards and 4 reds! At least Ivanov was able to count how many he gave to players... rolleyes He had NO CONTROL over the game AT ALL. He let Figo get away with a yellow for a deliberate head butt when play was stopped. Figo should have been shown the red, it would have prevented the Dutch from being further aggravated by Figo with his dive on the near side. Deco tried to hold up play and was rightly sent off, however if the ref had have had control of the match and situation instead of being miles away then it would not have happened. The ref had no control at all of the game which meant that play was dirty from both sides, lots of drama is good, but this was far far too much. Ivanov doesn't deserve to referee another match ever again. Do you know what made it worse? The Dutch lost by 1 goal despite a whole raft of chances. Bloody referees...

Figo may not have been booked for his butt; if the referee booked him for another infringement then then FIFA can still suspend him.
I thought Argentina got a little lucky with not losing Heinze but they created the more chances over the 120 minutes.
England? Well, we seemed better than in other games.

Portugal, waht can you say, England never win on penalties, England should have won that game, Ronaldo should have been sent off, Rooney shouldn't have even been booked, let alone sent off. Ronaldo's reaction was far worse.
Grr, it makes me so mad.

I disliked Ronaldo's body language throughout the match. Especially to Rooney before the match. Still, it's Sven's fault for not practicing penalties- "Because we want to win the games instead." Idiot. Errr. BBC Eriksson also revealed his players were regularly practising penalties ahead of the knock-out stages and that he had a clear idea of his penalty takers should the situation arise. "We have to prepare 10 or 11 players, perhaps even more, to take them," he added. "We've practised them a lot and will do so again today. "And if we get a penalty shoot-out we'd hope to do better than we did in the last tournament." [ http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/england/5106714.stm ]So, I assume you've going to blame Eriksson for Lampard, Gerrard, and Carragher ******** up their spot-kicks? It's Sven's fault Lampard was crap all competition, obviously. Let's be clear-headed, the players have failed in this competiton. The defence can hold their heads, they performed; the midfield was hopeless and the manager cannot be held reponsible for piss-poor performances from individuals. Lampard and Gerrard are far more responsible than Sven, Rooney, or Ronaldo.

Oof, the mood in the bar when England lost was not a pleasant one I can tell you. A bunch of Scottish guys were cheering on Portugal and the few England fans were left feeling not only gutted because they lost but pretty hurt by the Scots supporting ABE.
There were some "we would have supported you if it was the other way round!" "Aye, that's shite by the way." "At least we got into the world cup!"
I mistakenly started ranting about "Whatever happened to a United Kingdom?" and soon shut my gob, thinking it wouldn't look to good for an employee to end up in a fight...
Anyway, it all calmed down and the Scottish guys went off, leaving the England supporters to drink tequila and ask me akward questions about why my country was so bloody racist.
neutral fun.

'Racist' is pretty melodramatic.
