Slowly, as if by some zombie-esque trance, Kaz shoulders began shaking and short, hiccuped giggles rolled off his tongue. "My father wasnʻt an idiot," Kaz mumbled quietly as he stared at the man, his iridescent sapphire eyes literally glowing with suppressed anger. "You hired him, didnʻt you? You obviously had to know that he was an intelligent man. Trust me... he taught me everything that I would need to become a successful scientist by the time I was four." That was actually true, since Kaz had the entire elemental table memorized before he entered pre-school.
"But donʻt worry... Edward wonʻt hurt anybody," Kaz smirked quietly as he placed his hands firmly on his hips and shifted his weight onto his right foot. "If he does, you may use your little toy or whatever." With that statement, Kaz turned slightly to face the angel. There was a look in his eye as if stating, ʻDonʻt do anything to require the use of that weaponʻ.

When he turned to follow the older man to the training facilities, Kaz grabbed Edward by the arm and walked along side the angel. "Sorry," he murmured sheepishly under his breath. "Sometimes you just have to play the cards youʻve been dealt, even when your hand it bad." They continued on, Kaz remaining silent the whole way. Anything that either Edward, three, or four may have said went ignored the entire way. The boy was thinking. To him, this entire thing was a game of chess. He was the Queen, the one piece on the board who could move anywhere at any time as far as he wish. But, as the seconds ticked on, his standings as a piece soon began to decline lower and lower to that of either a knight of a pawn. Edward was the King, obviously. The trump piece that needed to be protected no matter what happens. On the opposing side was the old man and his army of agents. And Kaz had played right into his trap. Or did he?

When his head began to hurt, Kaz sank to the floor and buried his head in his arms. He had watched all the way up until Edward began to use his powers, then he had to stop watching. His head was hurting way too much. He only knew what was going on by what the old man was saying. Turn up the power this, steadily increase it that. This guy really didnʻt know how to take care of an angel, did he? As the power increased, the pain in Kazʻs head increased also. All the boy wanted was for it to stop, but he made no move to tell the old man otherwise. It wasnʻt like he would listen to his moaning anyway, right? All he cared about was his stupid little training program.
But finally, he couldnʻt take it anymore. "Stop it already... youʻre going to kill him," Kaz mumbled into his arms as he looked up at the older man. "Whatʻs the point of testing his limits? We all know that Edwardʻs limit is death. Itʻs the same with all mortal beings." What Kaz was saying was true, but he was pretty sure that the Old Man wouldnʻt pay him any mind. He was just the scientistʻs kid. He truly didnʻt know anything in the old manʻs eyes. But thatʻs where the old man was wrong. At the age of seventeen, Kaz had already graduated from high school and was a Senior at Yale studying human behavior. He knew a lot of things that this guy didnʻt.
