I honestly feel terrible for having fallen out of the hobby for as long as I have, seeing everything you've done here is both fantastic and inspiring! This is proof that a simple colour scheme can rock the table top when handled right and damn do those mini's look good... I wanna get back into painting my guys now. rofl

This will be a rather picture heavy post... I hope it is not frowned upon.

~Here's a small update.

I just finished painting my version of Baron Sathonyx~

What's next?

Once I get to it I'm painting up another Ravager (with disintegrator cannons), another Razorwing and some Harlequins.

Sooner or later I'll get Sathonyx a unit of beasts to accompany to the battlefield, alternatively a unit of Eldar allies.

I have a painting question, you seem to be the guy to ask. Basically i have a problem with highlights, and since Dark Eldar require alot of them, i just wanted to know some things about highlighting. Basically how much do you water down your paints when highlighting? or do you not do it at all? I keep getting rigid edges and such. Sorry for the size of this pic. No idea how to size it down. Btw if you tell me i will grant you a virtual fist bump. :3

The picture size is forgiven~

Well, I do a lot of combinations when I paint, and yes I water down my paints jus VERY very slightly when I highlight, also doing 3 or 4 different lights of the color.

Take the Baron's cape for example, Incubi Darkness, no wash, adding say, 1/5 white, painting all but the deepest recesses, adding another 1/5, doing the same thing but not the full area of the other combination, then another 1/5 to paint the long edges, not following them ALL the way though, then finally adding another bit of white just for the outermost edges.

All this is done with a Citadel Standard Brush, using a Citadel Detail Brush for the edge painting.

Of course as said when I answered your question, I water down the paint just very very slightly.

The horizontal Lines on the cloak are more watered down though since I didn't want them to look like "bumps" on the model, so they are about 50/50, using the detail brush's outer tip to get it done.

I hope this helps, otherwise I'll try to make a better explanation! (it's hard to translate all the words I want to use xD;;; )
