Daryn was shocked at her comment and when he hit the brakes he stepped on them a little harder than normal.
"What? Why wasn't it an option? Gabriella, your voice is amazing and you have the charisma to be successful."
He said to her and pressed the accelerator, though more gently.
"If it's because you met him, I swear I'm gonna kick his sorry-"
He was interrupted when a police car swerved out in front of him, lights on and siren wailing. Then his cell phone went off and he started digging around in his pocket. After a second he pulled it out and flipped it open.
"Daryn Torelli speaking....... Yes my father's name is Jake Torelli..... WHAT! Where!..... I'm on my way!"
Snapping the phone shut, he gripped the wheel with both hands and went ghost white.
"Hey.. Gabriella. Would you mind if we got back to your mom's place a bit late? Cops just called..... Dad's car was t-boned by a semi truck......"
He went quiet.

Gabriella was ready to retort back to there fight when they were kids...when he spoke up. She loved his dad. She remembered him taking care of her when she was little after her dad left.. But the fact that he was in a an accident struck her hard.
"y-yeah..wait. What? What do you mean he .." she started getting worried. She had a tendancy of freaking out. Her eyes started tearing up already. She reached for her phone, ignoring Jasons texts. She tried to get on the internet. She was seeing if there ws any information on it.
Her heart skipped a few beats. "Daryn...it's all over the news.." her voice was small compared to his.

He only nodded and was silent a moment longer before speaking.
"The guy said that it hit on the driver's side... The paramedics said.. they don't know if... if.."
He went quiet again to prevent the already upset girl from hearing the tremor in his voice. He had already lost his mother, he didn't know what he'd do if he lost his father as well.
Driving for about ten minutes, he turned down onto a busier road and was met with chaos. Police cars were re routing traffic and there were two ambulances on duty. his dad's pick up truck was laying on its roof and barely looked like a truck anymore.
"No.. dad!"
He yelled, parked hap hazardly and began frantically undoing his seat belt.

When they got to the scene, Gabriella stayed quiet not wanting to make things worse. She hit the seatbelt button for him cuz she knew it was tricky. She undid her belt and got out. She knew the cops weren't going to let her pass the tape, but she'd be there for Daryn.
She let him go ahead of her not, wanting to get in the way. Everything was so frantic. An officer stopped her and she let him. But she tried to explain who she was. He let her in but not far enough. They would't tell her anything.

Daryn rushed towards the mangled truck, an officer stopped him but he told him he was Jake's son and the officer placed a hand on his shoulder and began to lead him towards an ambulance. Looking over his shoulder, he gestured for Gabriella to follow. He needed his best friend now and he didn't care what the cops said.
"Mr. Torelli, your father is in very bad shape."
He said gently.
"He has severe head trauma, a punctured lung and possibly a fractured vertebrae. The paramedics want to get him to hospital and do some X rays and an MRI to make sure there's no internal bleeding other than the lung. I'm sorry son.
Daryn nodded and as they walked around the ambulance, Daryn went even whiter if possible.
His father lay on a gurney, unconscious. He wore a neck brace and had several tubes hooked up to him. One was a tracheal tube.
Daryn felt as if he were in a bad dream.
"Dad..."
He walked over and stood beside him, placing a hand on Jake's arm.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the truck. SHe over heard a little of the conversation and her stomach dropped. She followed Dayrn in silence, but she was crying quietly. A few of the cops tried to stop her but realized she wasn't a threat to anything. Her red hair flowed down her back and away from her tear streaked face. She could never handle situations like this..
When she saw Daryns dad she bit her lip hard to prevent from crying out loud. She was a big baby but she was in touch with her feelings. Somthing Jason was embaressed about her. SHe wiped her eyes and tried to look tough for Daryns sake, but she knew he'd see right through it. "Daryn.." it was the first time she spoke since they got there.

He looked over at her in a daze, his green eyes bright with tears. Seeing how upset she was, he held out his arms for her to give him a hug.
"Come here princess."
He said quietly and his voice cracked, a small sad smile on his face.
He remembered when his mom had died from cancer. He had only been seven so he had a tough time understanding, but Gabriella had been there for him and he was able to move on with her and his dad's support. His memory brought more tears to his eyes but he fought them off.

Gabriella couldn't hold back any more and she hugged him. SHe burried her face in his chest and cried. She knew he wouldn't care like Jason did. He was embaressed to hold her in public. Which brought more pain out. "I'm so sorry.." she muttered.
She was sorry for alot of things. but right now Daryn needed her for support on his fathers condition. The cabin and her moms place would be pushed to the side. But what killed her right now was the fact that she was crying about more then just his father. She was crying because she knew he was right about Jason. But what could she of all people do?. SHe didn't know. She didn't care..she was just there for him.

Daryn hugged her tight, but not enough to hurt her. He let that be his outlet instead of tears. He wouldn't cry out in public, not when Gabriella was taking it just as hard. He needed to be strong for her.
"He's gotta pull through..."
He couldn't say anymore, but just stood and hugged his friend. An officer came over and spoke to him calmly.
Sir, you and your girlfriend will have to go now. The paramedics are taking him now. If it's any consolation, they said he was stable. He may pull through.
Daryn listened but spoke up afterwards.
"Sorry, she's not my girlfriend. But I understand. Gabe?"
He put an arm around her shoulders and started walking back to the car. He never used that nickname unless he was in a very emotional state.

She wiped her eyes and nodded, feeling like a fool. She wasn't the one who was supposed to be taking it so hard. She walked with him back to the car but got in the drivers seat. She didn't want him to drive when he could snap at any given moment.
When she got in the car she pulled her phone out and texted Jason back saying that she was fine and on her way to her motheres and didn't need to worry about it. She started the car and threw her phone into the back seat. "You wanna go to the hospital..? " her voice was monotone and she just stared out window. She hated herself at the moment.

He simply nodded and was silent for most of the ride but spoke up after a bit.
"I must have the worst luck in the world. Everyone close to me ends up leaving me. First mom died.... you're engaged. My buddy died and now dad might.."
He didn't finish. He would normally never say something like that, but with Gabriella he knew he could just ramble and she would listen.
"The first song I ever wrote was after mom died. I don't think I ever showed it to you but, it was basically talking about how tears are the way your heart bleeds. I thought it sounded kinda gay so I never let anyone see it."

"Yeah I remember. You kept it under your bed in that piano magazine " she said softly. She never told him she knew. She was looking for the magazine and just happened to see it. SHe didn't want to start the conversation on her engagment. She didn't. It struck a hard chord in her and she teared up again though.
She remembered there fight like it was yesterday. She almost told him how she felt right then and there. But he snapped like she hadn't seen before and that was the end of it. How could he love her anyway. She wasn't like any of the other girls. She wasn't pretty..she wasnt talented. She was just another girl to him. Her thoughts from that night still haunted her.

He looked over at her in embarrassment. He had been upset when he wrote it and afterwards felt a bit silly, but he knew she would never tell.
"Hey. I'm sorry. I mean, sorry for what I said back then."
He knew she would know what he was talking about. He had called her a stuck up, bratty princess who wouldn't go anywhere unless she had someone to hold her hand. He even went so far as to say she would probably end up alone. He had been very bitter at the time. Ever since that day he had deeply regretted his words and now he payed the price for it. She found someone else and he had no one. Talk about irony.

She focused on driving but had to wipe her eyes at one point. She took deep breaths but she couldn't look at him. Gabriella was stuck between everything. She didn't want to bring it out now.But the words just slipped out.
"You were right about one thing. I am going to end up alone. " She knew she'd be stuck with Jason. But he was never there for her. She was just eye candy to him. She tried to leave him once but he used his mother, her boss, as leverage. From then on out she was stuck. Her mother praising her on one end. All of this because the one she wanted did love her.

Daryn looked over at her, not sure of what she meant but it finally sunk in. The jerk was never there for her. Ever. He wondered what had happened that she had become backed so far into the corner that there was no escape. He swallowed hard and when they pulled into the hospital parking lot. He looked over at her.
"Gabriella."
When she turned towards him he leaned over and kissed her before she could see what he was up to.
He knew she would most likely push him away because she was bound by the stupid ring she wore. But he kissed her anyway.
