After Peter's departure, Sebastian had returned to inform Eduard that it would be prudent for him to freshen up as well. The humidity of the rainy day was nearly stifling in the shirt and jacket so, Eduard retired to his chambers to change clothes. He carefully laid his silk shirt and jacket on the bed, stripped from the waist up, and began to rifle through his closet for an adequate match to his dark pants. Of course this didn't exactly work, and so Eduard resigned himself to fully changing his clothes. The old pants lay on the bed, and a new pair, along with a new silk ruffled shirt and jacket, soon found their way beside them. If only Eduard knew that his door had failed to close all the way... Instead of changing immediately, the practically nude Marquess stood in front of his own vanity. He carefully began to dry his body with a cotton towel, hoping to absorb some of the sweat that had accumulated from the mid-afternoon dancing. Humidity was his worst enemy sometimes.

P e t e r - W i n t e r sPeter landed on the carpet with a soft thud. He had done a little stage-falling in his time, when he had to die or something, but it still didn't prepare him for this sudden trip. He, luckily, didn't sprain or badly injure anything, but his body still hurt. "Ah!" He winced as he landed and just laid there, letting the sudden stab of pain that always came at the beginning course through him.
There had been silence in the room before, so he didn't expect to find anyone in the room. Of course, Eduard happened to be standing quite close by, but Peter, being both too much in pain and surprised, failed to notice.((Brilliant! xD I decided that Eduard would have some sort of reaction, right? So I couldn't post much, since that would allow for only a short time span to pass between his fall and the reaction.)) L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Eduard seemed to move in one fluid motion. The towel that he had been using to dry off, was suddenly around his waist. Of course the young Marquess hadn't known who fell through his bedroom door, but it was always safe to hide anything vital. "Peter?" Eduard spoke, rather confused at seeing the young man on his rug. But his surprise turned to a slight smirk, "I suppose that dress and those shoes got the better of you?" he teased before kneeling, quite delicately given his towel, and extending a hand to help the young man up. "You certainly startled me. Are you alright?"

P e t e r - W i n t e r sPeter huffed, but it was mostly to hide his blush and obvious embarrassment. "I'm perfectly fine with this outfit. It was your carpet!" Peter accepted Eduard's hand though, and stood up. His ankle was still a little shaky and he wasn't expecting the sudden pain again, falling into Eduard. It was a little compromising of a position. But Peter was so deep into his role, that it was a little hard to be "Peter" in this position. He just blushed and looked up to see Eduard's take on the matter. Not being able to help himself, and still in a teasingly good mood, he added, "I'm all right... but look at what the fates had put together through all this..." His tone was slightly seductive, though it was all part of the act.
If Peter was actually himself at this point, he probably would have pushed off, stumbled backwards, and probably have fallen down again. But he would have done anything to get out of Eduard's arms. But Lady Rosaline probably wouldn't have, and Peter had a duty to stick by his role and show Eduard that he really could act if he wanted to.L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Into Eduard's arms was an understatement. The Marquess hadn't expected Peter to stumble and he himself collapsed backwards onto the rug, his ankle having caught on the edge of the expensive floor covering and sending him crashing to the floor. To the floor in a rather small towel... Granted, at least now he was covered up thanks to the rather luxurious dress which the other man was wearing... but that was hardly the issue. "If this is the fates doing," Eduard spoke softly, suddenly seeming far less sure of himself than usual. He was blushing viciously, Peter having landed in his lap quite suddenly was a bit unnerving. "If it is their doing then..." for a moment, it was almost as if Eduard stuttered by going back on his sentence. "Then they are quite cruel. Could... could they have not waited until I was dressed?" Dark hair fell around him, pillowing his head as he lay on the floor. But his purple eyes were fixed on Peter's own gaze, unwilling to stray from their suddenly seductive lure.

P e t e r - W i n t e r sFrom what Peter had known of Eduard, his blush seemed so out of place. But it made him look even more warm and welcoming... What am I thinking?! But Peter had to keep himself in character. Or at least, he tried to. He blushed a red equal to Eduard's, remembering what he had just said while he was still Lady Rosaline. One of his hands were placed on Eduard's chest and that made him even more embarrassed, but he kept up the charade of Lady Rosaline. Inside, it was utter insanity, but outside, he was still a great actor. Maybe he was really fit for this job.
"Come now... That's not how a Marquess should act." Peter trailed a finger down his chest, though only doing so because he was in character. It was hard to keep this up. No man that he had ever acted with was this attractive. Nor did he ever know his acting partners that well to be embarrassed by his actions. But this time was quite different.
Peter leaned down and kissed Eduard, softly at first, then building up to something grander. It wasn't one of those stage kisses. This one was meant for close up audiences, if any. Halfway through it though, Peter couldn't take it anymore. This was quite taxing on his mind and body, and he finally jumped up, crawling quickly to a corner and sitting there in a position that was quite unladylike. His head was in his arms, which were rested on his knees.
"... I'm sorry." He was breathless, his voice soft, mostly from embarrassment, but partly from the heat of it all. He was apologizing for coming on to Eduard, but more so because he had failed to keep up his act as Lady Rosaline, despite his grand efforts. "I couldn't do it..." He felt miserable. He had failed. What was Eduard going to think of him now?((Don't you mean "Peter's own gaze"? xD)) L a d y - R o s a l i n e

His breathing caught in his throat as Peter's finger moved down his chest ever so teasingly. For a moment, Eduard didn't think he could breathe. And then the kiss came... At first, Eduard was too stunned to do anything. But soon, as Peter began to feel more at home as Rosaline, Eduard started to open up. It was something they were expected to do. A kiss here, a kiss there... Eduard opened his mouth, gently inviting Peter's tongue inside until... Well, until the young man simply wasn't there anymore. Realizing that his eyes had been closed, Eduard opened them, only to see Peter seemingly having a nervous breakdown in the corner. "What..." Eduard licked his lips, trying to will himself to speak as he propped himself up on his elbows. "What could you ever be sorry for?" Carefully, the Marquess stood, making sure his towel continued to act as a concealer. "Peter... this is your role. There is nothing to be ashamed of nor to apologize for. I... I admit that I was hardly prepared for that but..." he was blushing again and he knew it. Eduard knelt at Peter's side, just as he had earlier, and placed a gentle hand on the actor's shoulder. "You're the best actor I've ever seen, Peter Winters."

P e t e r - W i n t e r sPeter looked up, highly surprised at Eduard's reply. And the crimson that tinted his cheeks once again made him look so handsome that Peter had to look away. He still remembered the feeling of it all—the muscular chest; the inviting lips; the hot breath that was shared between them... Peter shook his head comically to get it out of his mind. "And yet... I couldn't keep it up..." If he had gone any further, he would have exploded.
Lady Rosaline, in his mind, was supposed to be a calm and confident woman; daughter to an aristocrat. Of course she had to be presentable! But if Peter had continued, he would have lapsed back into Peter. From then on, who knows what could have happened? But the calm seductiveness could not have continued. After all, it was all that Peter could have done at the time to keep himself from blushing and stuttering his seductive comments. "I'm so sorry." Damn! If I can't do this now, then what happens when we go out to the public? But Peter was comforted by the fact that at least in public, they would have to act more respectable, with sweet little kisses, if anything, rather than the more open lovers that they were supposed to be when at home and in private.L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Eduard shook his head, backing off a bit to give Peter some room. He didn't want to overwhelm the actor, but the Marquess had meant every word. "Well, we should hardly act that way in public... and in private well... my staff knows the truth after all. I hardly expect you to give such a sensual kiss to me again, Peter. Though... you're hardly lacking in that department." Eduard winked, moving to stand and heading toward the bed where his clothes were laid out. He ran his long fingers over the silk shirt, thinking through everything that had happened. Hands on his hips, Eduard looked back to the actor. "No apologies, Peter. You did your best, and your best even had me fooled." the Marquess smiled.

P e t e r - W i n t e r sPeter couldn't help a slight chuckle. Eduard's light behavior was contagious. Had he been a little more... normal, he would probably have realized that Eduard was doing his best to cheer him up—and it was working. Peter felt a lot better. Knowing that he had had Eduard fooled made him feel more confident in his acting skills. Relieved that his inner chaos had not shown through in his earlier act, Peter smiled. "That's what I'm supposed to do," he chided.
Standing up, Peter finally noticed that Eduard was naked. Well, he was basically naked. Peter blushed and, having returned to himself, stammered, "A-Ah! Umm... I... I'll be h-heading out!" He ran out the door, leaving behind a shoe. but not really caring. He slammed the door and stood against the wall, breathing deeply out of embarrassment. He felt a little dizzy.
Though all this, Eduard's flawless body stayed in the forefront of his mind. His chest was so lean... Peter shook his head, desperate to get those thoughts and pictures out of his mind. It wouldn't help his acting. Or maybe, Peter was getting into his role so much that he was starting to embody the character, both mind and soul. That would be a new experience.L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Eduard didn't even have time to say anything more. Peter was dashing from the room, slamming the door and, accidentally leaving a shoe. Smiling, Eduard picked the shoe up and studied it for a moment. There was a small scuff mark, probably from when the young man had tripped. After dressing once more, the Marquess buffed out the mark and set the shoe down. He ran a brush through his hair, making sure that his appearance was perfect, before exiting his bed chambers. The actor was standing just outside, looking positively alarmed. "You forgot something." Eduard spoke with a smile. Carefully he knelt, shoe in hand, and raised the edge of Peter's dress JUST enough so that he could place the shoe back on the actor's foot. "There." Eduard laughed softly, standing and extending a hand. "Even after that, I take it you are ready for tonight's ball?"

P e t e r - W i n t e r sPeter felt like a princess when Eduard put the shoe back on his foot. "So gentlemanly," he chided, feeling a lot better and getting back into his calm act. Peter looked down at Eduard's extended hand then spoke, "Let me use your mirror for a second. That fall might have displaced some of the hair in my bun." Peter took Eduard's hand anyways without really realizing it and walked back into Eduard's room.
He stood in front of the mirror and placed his little hand bag down on the table beside it. Sure enough, some locks of hair had been displaced by the fall and it was bad enough that Peter had to take it completely apart and redo it. Some of his makeup needed touching up too.
With an expert's air about him, Peter set to work. Always prepared as an actor, hew knew that appearances were a lot of it, and so he had put his emergency items in his little bag. Taking out and putting back various items after he had used them, he quickly redid his hair and set the finishing touches to his makeup. He could very well have passed for a woman even in skill of taking care of her looks. Peter had it all under his control.
After he finished, which was somewhat a record time, even for women, he straightened out his dress and took Eduard's hand once again. "Now, I'm ready." He smiled and waited for Eduard to lead the way out.L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Laughing softly, Eduard led the way to the manor's entryway. "You were better with your make-up and hair than most women I have been seen with." the Marquess teased, but it was quite the compliment. Sebastian had gotten the coach, and the driver was waiting patiently for the two. The Marquess however... stood in the doorway and looked out at the falling rain. "I would suggest we walk." Eduard spoke, seemingly just a tad uneasy. "The manor is only about thirty blocks or so..." Far too distant to walk in, especially if one wanted to be presentable at a ball. The rainwater had piled quite high on the sides of the street at that, meaning that any dress or pants would get the bottom soaked. Bowing, Sebastian handed Eduard an umbrella. "I will have the coach drive ahead if you and the lady wish it, mi'lord." The butler was in acting mode as well. "What do you think, Lady Rosaline?" the Marquess asked suddenly. In truth, he wanted to avoid the coach altogether... but if they walked, their appearances would be simply horrid.

P e t e r - W i n t e r s"Walk?" Peter was evidently confused. That seemed quite counter intuitive. "Why?" He was sure that he and Eduard would look horrid coming into the ball after having walked in the rain for thirty blocks or so. And surely that would embarrass Eduard, not to mention Eduard's family, in front of Viscount Rutherford and all of his guests. Peter wouldn't just stand by and let that happen. And Sebastian was being all too submissive, letting Eduard be. Surely the man had enough common sense to know what would happen if they were to walk.
Speaking of common sense, Peter was sure that Eduard had quite a bit of that too. Eduard was one of the brightest people Peter had yet to meet, so surely he knew what he was getting into when he requested to walk. Does he have a fear of carriages or something? The thought seemed quite ridiculous and so humorous that Peter had to suppress a smile.L a d y - R o s a l i n e

Eduard smiled slightly to Peter, trying to keep the young man from realizing his fear. A fear that he had been able to hide from just about everyone in noble society. But Peter wasn't a noble. He was Peter... Shouldn't he know? "I just felt like I could use the exercise." 'That was horrid!' he thought to himself in dismay, trying to fix that ridiculous statement. Eduard paused for a moment. "I mean... to work up an appetite. We DID just eat a rather large meal, and will be expected to eat again when we arrive. It would reflect badly if we refused their hospitality." 'Damn this rain!' the Marquess thought angrily. 'Two days now! It could have let up by now!' In truth however, no noble expected Eduard Michaels to attend a ball or soiree in the rain. He never had before, after all...
