Also, why didn't anyone mentioned He-man or She-ra??? Come on people!
PostPosted: Thu Sep 04, 2008 8:35 pm

Oh Dear....I was She-Ra for Halloween once, and I had the dolls, AND old VHS tapes of some of the Episodes, and a choose your own ending book.

Now I equate her with Sailor Moon, cool at the time, but when you look back, you are either embarrassed you fell for such a cliche, or you just ignore it.

And He-man....I liked the newer cartoon better. neutral

But..

Am I the only one who's kind of horrified by the 80's fashion revival that's going on?

I mean it was ok for us, it was the first time around and we didn't know any better lol
But I find I have to stop myself from pointing and laughing at the kids that I see on the streets now, looking like something out of a Bananarama video..

That's quite the comprehensive list, but I can't shake the inherent weirdness of knowing that I am in a large group gathered on Gaia that actually understands it.

I was born in '86 and I remember...

Ending your sentence with "psych"

Solving the Rubics cube.....by peeling off the
stickers

Watching the pound puppies

Singing the rap to "the Fresh Prince of
Bel-Air"

Three words: M.C. Hammer

Singing the entire theme song! to "Duck Tales"

The crypt keeper

Reading Kool-Aid man comics

Watching Fraggle Rock

Plastic streamers on the handle bars of
your bike

When it was actually worth getting up early on a
Saturday to watch cartoons

Wearing a pony tail to the side of your head

Seeing the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
on the big
screen

Getting super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day
in computer
class at school

Playing the game "Mash" with friends at school

My dad BUYING me have garbage pail kids stickers

Reading "Tales of a Fourth Grade
Nothing" and all the Ramona books

Knowing the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off"

Wearing fluorescent, neon if you will,
clothing

What Michael Jackson looked like
before his nose fell off

Taking Lunch boxes to school

Pondering why Smurfette was the ONLY
female smurf

The craze, and then the banning of
slap
bracelets

Using "NOT" at the end of
every statement

Thinking my childhood friends would never
leave
because we exchanged "friendship bracelets"

Owning a pair of Jelly Shoes

After you saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure you couldn't
stop saying "That guy's creepy, isn't he?"

"I've fallen...and I can't get up!"

Going to the skating rink before there
were inline skates

Getting seriously injured on a slip and slide

Knowing not to mix poprocks and soda

'skip-it'

Glow Worm and the cartoon

Dancing along with the Bangles in
"Walk Like An
Egyptian"

Heathcliff the orange cat

California Raisins Christmas claymation
special

MISS MARY MACK MACK MACK ALL DRESSED IN BLACK BLACK
BLACK.....

Boom boxes instead of CD players

Both "Gremlins" movies

Transformers

Overalls, everyone was wearing
them

"Care bear stare!!"

MY Little Pony Tails

Alf, the little furry brown alien from
Malmac

Large amounts of hairspray used

Very stylish headbands

New Kids on the Block when they were "New"

You remember watching The Cosby show

You remember Michael J. Fox in Family Ties and Back
to the Future

And!!!!!:

Huffy was the bike to own.

Spandex and leotards were in. No, really they were.

Rock was rock, country was country, pop was pop, and music didn't have an identity crisis.

Ditto for monopoly.

Atari!

I've been laughing nonstop as I've read my way through the list. Loved Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Superfudge, and the Ramona Books. I was hooked on Voltron when it had the 5 lions, and I annoyed the heck out of my older siblings by always watching Saturday morning cartoons - all morning long and as many after school cartoons as I could manage. Thundercats, ewoks, smurfs, He-man, She-ra, Gem (is truly outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous). I sang along to "Conjuction Junction", and "I'm Just a Bill" and ohhh, what where the others?!

I remember when we first got cable we had a box that you had to either get up to change or pull across the room and risk tripping everyone with the cord (I tripped myself up more than a few times).

My first computer was an Apple II plus with a dinky 6" square sreen, a built in keyboard, and a massive amount of space taken up by the CPU. Green print on a black screen, no other colors. I was always playing Loadrunner on it with a joystick - spent way too much time on that game.

Did anyone else get sucked into the cabbage patch kid craze when they first came out? I had to, just had to have one.
