((Retropost))
She stared at her phone and read the text from Psy. Her eyes were half lidded and red from lack of sleep, and she tried to focus on the words, but ended up tossing the phone aside.
“Pft. rolleyes ” She lay back on the bed and looked around the room she was in. The past days when she had left Geezerville had been a blur; the only thing she knew was that she wanted to get away. A few days later, she landed in Vegas, and lost herself in the crowds of the casinos, wandering aimlessly.
She vaguely remembered what had happened the night Franco had found her. All that she knew was that some goon had tried to disarm her and take her knife from her. Something in her snapped when he grabbed her by the arm and tried to take the knife from the holster on her thigh, and her past training kicked in. It didn’t take long for the goon to end up with a broken nose and she twisted away from him and bolted through the casino, her eyes frantically looking around for an escape.
She was looking back over her shoulder when she slammed right into Franco. They ended up on the floor in a tangle of arms and legs. She was poised to strike whoever she had hit when she realized she had landed on Franco.
He took a look at the woman sprawled on top of him and recognized the flaming red hair almost immediately.
“Eh, Gattina…I know yous missed Franco and all…. cool ” He smirked at her and stood up, holding a hand up to keep his bodyguards from grabbing her. He held a hand out to her to help her up.
By the time she was standing again, the goons that had been chasing her through the casino finally caught up to her and Franco. She looked around, wild-eyed, but knew she was outnumbered, what with Franco’s entourage and the goons that had followed her. She moved closer to Franco, hoping that he would call off the security men. ninja
Franco looked at the man with the obviously broken nose and then looked down at her. His eyes narrowed slightly and her grip tightened on his hand.
“They tried to take my knife, Franco. MY KNIFE! Tell them they can’t have my knife! gonk crying ” Her lower lip wobbled as she pleaded with the one who might understand her.
Franco sighed heavily and steered her into an elevator. After the doors closed, he used his key to take them up to the penthouse. “Gattina…I can’t have yous breakin’ my men. stare ”
“I –told- you, Franco, they tried to take MY knife. NO ONE touches this knife! scream ” Out of habit, her hand went to the knife on her thigh so she could reassure herself that it was actually still there. “And just where do you think you’re taking me?! gonk ” She moved away from him, pressing into the corner of the elevator away from him, her eyes darting from him to the door.
He looked at her and gave her one of his smirks that she knew so well.
“Eh, Franco’s just gonna give yous a place to stay for awhile, Gattina. Franco, he knows how to take care of Zitellona’s top earner. cool ” He winked at her as the elevator door opened.
He ushered her out of the elevator and into the opulent penthouse. He sat her down on the couch and sat next to her.
“Don’t make me go back, Franco. sad “
He looked at her and sighed, “Gattina, yous can stay ‘ere as long as you want.”
She relaxed visibly, but her hand was still on the knife. “Thank you.” She curled up into the corner of the couch and closed her eyes.
Franco got up and left the penthouse, locking the door behind him and motioned to one of his bodyguards who had just stepped off the elevator. He leaned over and whispered something to the man, motioning towards the door of the penthouse and then left the man guarding the door as he entered the elevator to go back down. The bodyguard took his post near the door as Franco requested.
The days ran together after that had happened. She ignored the calls and texts coming to her phone, caring only that she had the knife in her possession. Even taking it off her person for the short time it took her to shower would make her shaky and nauseous, as if she was having a physical withdrawal from not wearing it. Even her sleep was suffering, as she was nervous that someone would try to take it from her. She barely ate, and spent her days sitting alone and staring into nothingness, her hand always resting on the knife.
