I got to do battle with a fifteen-foot Japanese maple this evening. It's half-dead due to a bacteria in the soil, so we're taking it out and replacing it with a Oklahoma redbud that should be resistant to the bacteria. Of course, my family lacks the sort of power tools that would make this task quick and relatively easy (oh, for a chainsaw...). So, I took it upon myself to climb into the tree and rip off all the smaller branches I could reach by hand (I tried clippers, but the dead branches are far too tough for easy lopping). Once we've gotten those branches bagged, I'll be breaking out the hatchet. twisted
I have to say, it was really fun to climb up in the branches, tear out any in my way, and swing around like a monkey. My hands are a bit torn up, but I'm a very happy camper. mrgreen

Cthulhu was awesome. It was a Pacific NW retelling of Shadow Over Innsmouth. It had perhaps the most beautiful love scene I have ever seen in a movie.
Of note- both the writer and the director signed my movie ticket. They also invited us to a party afterward.

Ugh, just got over being sick for 4 days straight. Drained the last of my sick days and barely left home the entire time. Got better just in time to be the only one scheduled for the busiest day of the week rolleyes
At least football takes a priority over everything else around here so it's not too bad.

I've found it both funny and sad that my local news station that was airing a football game (Notre Dame vs.... somebody), and when tornado warnings and such brought the weather team to overshadow "THE Game".... people started calling the station and e-mailing them complaints to re-air the game instead of do their job to forewarn others in case their houses just suddenly were ripped to shreds.
I mean, come on, is this really where our priorities are as Americans?
