i hate trying to figure out computer stuff.

my monitor is VGA but the new videocard I want to get is DVI/HDMI

but my computer has both DVI and VGA

have I been using onboard video this entire time???????? My actual videocard has just DVI

Depends. Is the plug you're using running straight to the motherboard, or is it going via the video card first?

You can upgrade your monitor plug/convert it to go in a newer socket. They're quite cheap and it's a good way to test. biggrin

okay I had to open my tower to actually look where things were going...

my videocard is just that old that it had DVI and VGA ports, and my monitor is even older (VGA), but I ordered a male to female converter for the DVI port with the new videocard.

EVERYTHING IS GOOD

NEW CARD COST ME $20 YES GOOD.

It's only a few steps better than what I have, but it's designed to be a gaming card, unlike my current. (and will handle skyrim yes also good)
