Sorry to announce this to the world, but HIM isn't goth.....or emo.....
Nope they are 'Love Metal' whatever the hell that is.

Boring pop rock.

Isn't that the remit of Fall out Boy, Medina Lake and all those idiotic bands?

Yes. HIM fits in with the rest of them perfectly. biggrin

Despite being completely different stylistically?

You would agree that what they play is not metal (Love or otherwise), correct?

Pop Rock is a pretty broad term, and not exactly a genre per se. Hell, the Beatles were pop rock, they're nothing like those other bands stylistically either.
They do play rock songs, which are written with a pop structure. Their version is derived more from hard rock, while bands like Fall Out Boy are stylistic offspring of punk. So no, they are not the same stylistically, but yes they are both pop rock.

My favorite song by HIM, is probably Wings of a Butterfly, or possibly Poison Girl.

I see you guys have had a lot of discussion about HIM.
I don't see when they started being labeled as Goth, But I don't know how to classify them, they are claimed to be the founders of the "love metal" genre but I still can't fit any other band in it and yet I can't fit HIM with MCR and Panic! at the disco. I'm so confused and all the informative talk you had led me nowhere. How could a band like them be the source of such a conversation?

Somehow I think this picture may have had something to do with it.

I never liked HIM, it's kinda emo metal-y but is too p***y to be metal. Plus I think more people are into wearing the heart gram than actually listening to HIM. He looks goth and cool but, is music just isn't my style.

Hmm, That doesn't make HIM or Ville Valo anymore goth than the next guy. But I like the picture. Still confused on where to class their music. I like to listen to HIM sometimes.

H.I.M is awesome
i used to actually try to not like them because where i used to live all the annoying posers listened to H.I.M but the more i tried to not like the more i loved them lol
i know that is kinda a stupid reason to try and not like a band but i was tired of being listed as a poser because i liked H.I.M but i am over that now cause i really don't care what people think about me
And H.I.M is AWESOME live
i saw them live a couple years ago and they put on a great show
i don't know what my favorite song is though
i really like "Rip Out The wings Of A Butterfly"

Wait a second, If we are talking with this weird falt concept, That would make Visual Kei bands like Malice Mizer and Moi Dix Mois all Goth.... Something is clearly wrong.
