I've never gotten nervous because i go to a comic store. And my friends know that i read manga and never ask be what it's about.
On time i was talking to a random girl about gravitation and then she introduced me to fake. she was fun.

People have a lot of funny experiences 3nodding

I was at the comic/fantasy store to look for some new manga, and of course, the yaoi shelf is the first one I check out for new stuff. So I picked the new volume of Our Kingdom and Dear Myself and went to pay for them. The bloke behind the counter just chuckled when he saw them and we started talking about the oddity of the growing popularity of yaoi manga(here it is very difficult to get a hold of manga/anime, so yaoi is not very common at all). It was a really nice conversation too.

This has nothing to do with yaoi, but I was reading through some of these stories, and I reminded me of a certain experience of mine.... I brought one of my mangas to school that's not yaoi, but it is really perverted... Anyway, I'm sneaking it under the desk to hand to my friend (I let them borrow manga) and my teacher comes along and snatches it. I was like "o_o".

Anyway, he's like "Ohh, so you're into these Japanese comics, huh?" And I nod slowly. "I hear they're for mature people" He says. And I just said "Well, that depends on the rating on the back..." Then he looked through it! gonk

He didn't make any comments, but the look on his face gave it away. x_o
So, he just handed it back to me and went back to teaching the class.

Oh gosh, I am having the best time reading these stories. xd They are hilarious.

I'm in eighth grade, but I've actually been mistaken for 21+ before because I look so old. sweatdrop I haven't bought many yaoi manga (my parents would kill me!!), but I read it in the bookstore and mooch it off of friends and the like. <_< When I was twelve I bought "Only the Ring Finger Knows" and I was all embarrassed and the cashier didn't even bat an eyelash. XDD Same with Gravitation, Earthian, Loveless, Eerie Queerie...-.-; It wasn't until later that I learned that they're actually supposed to ID you. o.o; And yet...I've never been IDed in my life. >o<

I don't find it as embarrassing as I used to, though. wink

As far as I can tell, no one cares. Or maybe I'm just oblivious. sweatdrop

Haha. Somtimes when I buy a BL book with an "obvious" cover I do get a little self consious when I hafta take it to the clerk. It's a good thing the barcodes are on the back of the book. I just place them on the counter face down.

When it comes to acutally selecting the book among the shelves I generally ignore what the other customers are looking at. I just grab it, look around some more then go on my merry way.

I'm pretty sure the cashiers in my town are more than used to yaoi by now. My friends and I buy it consantly.
We have a tradition, whenever we see the 7th volume of Fake without plastic we flip to the back and hold it up for all to see and yell "Mansex!!!"
We get interesting looks but no one seems o care.
and one time, I was buying volume 3 of Yellow and the guy cheching it out for me asked if it was any good.
me: "Well it's yaoi...........so ummm......"
him: "Oh, yeah, I know. So is it good?"
me: *GRIN* "Well it's rather explicit, but it's good."
him: "I'll have to check it out then."
me: *GRIN*

I openly buy it! Whenever someone looks at me wierd I just say 'Ph, you like it too!' Most of the time they blush and walk away.

I dont really HIDE it from my family... they all know.. but at the same time. I don't show them... XD! Some of it might scar them, you know?

Aww, I wish I had a funny story to share =/

I buy most of mine at a comic book shop by myself, and they don't look at me weird or anything, obviously cause they have a decent selection of it, and people do like it. less embarrassing for me =] I've also never met anyone while buying my manga. :(

My mother's only bought a few of my mangas, and those have been "tame" ones, like a couple of Model and other little ones I pick up. But that's cause she goes "Are you paying for that?" "Oh, are you offering? Great!" *drops it on the counter and wanders away* She knows I like gay guys, but doesn't really say much about it. She hasn't found a reason to have a talk with me about it. Yet.

And even though I live mostly on my own now, when I'm back home, I hide it. Heck, I even hide it when I'm not. Just for "safety" I guess. xD My friend in Kentucky mailed me a regular book she's letting me borrow for a while, with my christmas gift this year, but it's a gay romance novel (soooo hawt!!!). And the cover is like, two guys, naked, in the shower. You can see the butt of one, and well, the other's p***s is just barely covered by a leg. So, she had made a paper cover for it. I was home for the weekend when I opened the package finally, and immediately hid it. The next day though, I wandered down to my room to grab something, and picked up the book too. I was reading it in the living room with the cover on, and my mom's like, "what's that? I thought you were reading that article in the history magazine?" *snaps book shut, tucks under purse so she can't grab it and take off the cover* "It's a book. K's lending it too me. Oh yeah, forgot I was reading the magazine. ^_____^" *picks up the magazine, hoping she'll go away* "... confused " *continues on to the kitchen*

I don't care if anyone sees me buying BL.
When I'm in yaoi mode, I'm not aware of anything else.

My dad buys me BL sometimes.

X3 More often than not I see girls (and once a guy heart ) looking at the yaoi whenever I go to bookstores. I remember there were these two girls a couple years older than me who were like, "OMIGOD the new La Esperansaca is out!" or "Ooh, have you read this one?" (Il Gatto Sul G) and I was flicking through FAKE at the time, because I was thinking about buying the sixth volume (bought the fourth volume of Loveless and the first volume of Gravitation Ex instead. Gravi Ex was an impulse buy. X3) And my brother was with me. So that was pretty funny. He totally knows that I'm into BL but doesn't make fun of me for it. (Actually, he will, very seldomly though. I think he knows it's a soft spot since I'm a bit embarassed by it since I'm kinda young. *pout* Fourteen year old BL lovers anybody...?) Anyway, the girls saw me looking at FAKE and both of them grinned at me. One of them gave me the thumbs up. I laughed. XD

*raises hand* I'm not trying to bump my own thread, I just have a funny story. X3

Okay. The most explicit yaoi I've ever bought was the Gakuen Heaven manga. S'not anything huge and the sex scene is kinda short, but it's not soft by any means. Plus it's got that damn "parental advisory" thingy on the cover. Guh. Anyway, it's USUALLY wrapped in plastic, but some wonderful, blessed soul tore off the plastic covering, which made it much less suspicious. :3 But my brother was with me, and it's a little ebarassing to be stuck in that situation with your older brother. I actually had a system of timing in my head. X3

"... Okay, he's looking at the Hellsing book... he's not looking this way... Okay, grab it!"

And I HAULED a** outta there, went to the cashier, and bought it with no questions asked. I think it's coz I look slightly older than fourteen. At least sixteen, especially if I tie my hair back. X3 Which I never do. But whatever. Although what really sucks to me is when the cashier is a guy and he's really, REALLY GOOD LOOKING, and somebody I'd like to be going out with under any other circumstances. GUH.

When I was buying Loveless 4 and Gravitation EX, the guy was cute, and he said, "You want a bag for this?" kinda raising one eyebrow, which made me want to flail "I'M NOT BUYING PORN!" or something to that effect. He was probably one of those guys that thinks all anime and manga is pr0n. *sigh*

One of the things that I have to do when I'm buying BL manga is buy a non-bl manga with it, as sort of a "decoy" if my parents ask, "So what did you buy?" When I bought Gakuen Heaven, Mom asked me "So what did you get?" and I whipped out Prince of Tennis, smiling innocently. X3
